not to be a gay bitch on main, but i often hurt myself thinking about the torchwood team meeting boom town jack. it's your boss, your mysterious, often grim boss, and he looks pretty much the same except for the glow of youth about him and the lack of his signature outfit which you've never seen him without. and your boss is charismatic, yeah, but this man is fucking effervescent. he's so aggressively alive, so insistently present, and he looks delighted with everything he sees. his eyes light up when they fall on alien artifacts, and early 2000s phones, and the friends he's travelling with. he's so bright it's like staring down car headlights. and i know ianto and he weren't together, but imagine if they were. jack never seems as happy with me as he does with the blonde girl and the man in the leather jacket. jack never seems this happy.

tbh some people condemning ships with the Doctor because they’re ‘toxic’ are so funny to me. Bud you’re gonna struggle to find a ship with the Doctor that ISN’T toxic

Ah yes– we have their murderous childhood best friend with the only god complex in the universe as huge as theirs, their murderous wife that was engineered to kill them from infancy, the murderous guy that he had a part in making immortal and then just abandoned… it goes on.

And then the one usually perceived by the fandom as ‘healthy’ is like… barely legal. Rose Tyler was 19 to the Doctor’s 900. Yeah, she was a consenting adult, but that’s still a very young woman who has spent the majority of her life in the same place as compared to an ancient alien being who was fighting interdimensional wars before she was even a twinkle in her father’s eye. And this does apply to pretty much every human ship with the Doctor. The power dynamics are SO fucked dude.

The only popular Doctor ship with an even remotely level power dynamic is Thoschei (Doc x the Master), but they’re both Repressed ™️ and have a psychosexual rivalry thing going on that is just… not good. For either party. And they both make it worse every time they meet.

All I’m saying is, apart from maybe the Doctor x the TARDIS, they’re all at least a little messed up. Relax guys. Embrace the fuckery.
