JACKIE HOWARD & COLE WALTER My Life with the Walter Boys Season 2
Making genuine ship wars for shows that are clear-cut and give Disney-fied light-watch vibes will never be not be astonishing for me to witness. It's like trying to play Battlefield when it's Connect 4 and the game pieces are AO3 Love Interest #1, AO3 LI #2 (and so on), and they tell you in the first episode who the endgame is
The way Jackie acts in the love triangle makes sense to me. She was already someone who valued having an orderly, put-together life, and then she lost her whole family, so finding any way to gain control in her life would be hugely important for her going forward. Loving someone deeply would be absolutely terrifying because she'd be so afraid of losing them and how much that would hurt, and she needs to feel like she can maintain control. Being with Alex, who's sweet and she likes being around but doesn't necessarily love like that, is the easier option. And this season, she didn't want to fall back into the triangle, she's clear about that with both brothers, but after her and Alex make up, it goes from "Oh we still have chemistry and like making out" to "Well we still have these feelings from before" to "Why not date?" Except Jackie, even though she's not ready to admit it to herself, has feelings for Cole, so she's like "We need to keep it private" but won't confront within herself why she feels that way, beyond some concern for Cole's feelings. I don't think she worked out just how much she was feeling for Cole and her reasons for keeping him at a distance until their conversation at the end of the season. Also, the love triangle drama last season made her feel like she had to leave, and she wouldn't want to lose this family again, so she'd do anything to avoid that. IDK I just get her and I feel for her.

“Hey, New York,” he had said, punctuating his sentence with a loud SLAM against her locker as he leaned against it. By this point, she had grown used to him sneaking up behind her and had barely had a reaction to it. She continued to place her textbooks into the locker and prepare for her next class, only sparing him a small glance as he continued. “Don’t make any plans this Saturday, okay? We,” he said, gesturing between them, “are going on a date.” She stood there frozen, textbook in hand, stuck halfway between her and her locker. A date?

Jackie and Cole go on their first official date. Some things go very wrong, some things go very right.

The way Cole Walter looks at Jackie Howard when she is not looking in his direction... His feelings for her are so strong already that he can't hide them from anyone even if he tries. He's too obvious.
