When Jackie Gleason was invited to throw out the first pitch at the San Francisco Giants' 1978 opening day at Candlestick Park, he approached the opportunity with his signature flair. Known more for his comedic timing than his athleticism, Gleason arrived on the field wearing a custom Giants jersey and carrying a cigar as big as his personality. Before stepping onto the mound, Gleason joked with the crowd, saying, hope this pitch doesn't end up in Oakland!" The fans roared with laughter. However, when he got ready to throw, he dramatically mimed stretching his arms, adjusting his cap, and spitting like a seasoned baseball pro.

This swing dress worn by Lucy in the late 1960's has always been a favorite of mine. A swing dress gets it's name because it swings away from the body as the wearer moves and turns, giving it this stylish A-shaped silhouette. Instead of the 'swing' originating from the waistline as in earlier versions of this style (1950's), this version swings from the bustline. Last night I dusted off 'Lucy Gets Lucky' (1975) with Dean Martin and made a small observation. When Lucy takes her first job at the hotel as a parking attendant, the first car that Lucy drives up to the valet stand is the orange colored convertible. The scene that ended up in the special involving this car, was filmed as a seemless one shot with no edits or need for the use of her stunt double. These behind the scenes photos from the production show Lucy and her stunt double navigating a scene with this car and even making a swap behind the wheel. Whatever was happening here didn't make the final cut.
