#JackedKirby - Jack’s first work for DC Comics.... technically! 💥💥💥 Life was good for Jack Kirby and his studio partner Joe Simon in the early 40s. They had a million issue selling book on their hands on Captain America, they were putting together a great partnership and planning to open a studio together to expand their reach. But one thing they felt was that Timely Comics (the former name of Marvel Comics) wasn’t paying them enough per week/month considering how much Cap was selling. So they negotiated a secret deal with Timely’s main competition, National Publications (would later become DC Comics), to secure a bigger pay day and jump ship! 💥💥💥 The plan was to keep on the Cap book for a few more months while they began character creation for titles they would do at National... but word got back to Martin Goodman (Timely’s Editor) And they were told to hit the bricks. So they jumped over to National! 💥💥💥 The first story they worked on was a Sandman story for Adventure Comics #Issue72 (published in March of 1942) entitled “The Riddle of the Slave Market”. Kirby is given sole writing and penciling credit on this story in the anthology comic. 💥💥💥 In the story Wesley Dodd (Sandman) and his boy sidekick Sandy tackle some human trafficking... light hearted stuff! Lol. This began an on again/off again relationship between Jack & DC Comics for the next 45+ years! 💥💥💥 #JackKirby #KingKirby #Kirby #AdventureComics #AnthologyComics #JoeSimon #SimonAndKirby #NationalComics #TimelyComics #DCComics #MarvelComics #Comic #Comics #ComicBook #ComicBooks #HappyBirthdayJack #JackKirby101 #HappyBirthday #KirbysFirstDCStory #Pencils #Inks #Story https://www.instagram.com/p/BnCmAuLny2y/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1mz9f9xn2eij9
