#JackedKirby - Enter the World of Daring Mystery Comics!!! 💥💥💥 I love me some Golden Age Simon & Kirby, so when I saw this cover I had to delve in and do some research. The middle figure (The Thunderer) appealed to me most... who were these amazing characters I had never heard of? 💥💥💥 From left to right on the cover we have: Captain Daring, The Fin, The Thunderer, Citizen V and Blue Diamond. On the bottom in the inset we have The Silver Scorpion, the only lady of the bunch. 💥💥💥 The credits page (pic 2) tells us who worked on the actual interiors of these stories. Credits were wonky back then, but here they go: Captain Daring - Frank Borth The Fin - Bill Everett The Thunderer - Ed Robbins Citizen V - Tom Benson Blue Diamond - Ben Thompson The Silver Scorpion - Harry Sable 💥💥💥 Simon and Kirby were pinch hitting on this cover as they were on their way out the door of Timely and over to National (DC Comics) to begin work on The Sandman. 1941 had been a banner year for Timely and Simon/Kirby with the launch of Cap in March... but despite large sales and huge popularity problems over money led to them shoving off. This book, Daring Mystery Comics #Issue8 is dated January of 1942, so that means they completed it sometime in late 1941. This anthology series came to an end with this issue, and was recycled into a comedy anthology book shortly after.
