Monthly Fic Round-Up: February
There's been a slight upset this month! Not every fic in the top three for kudos was Jack/Bunny.
#1 again (though with no tie like in January) was:
What It Means To Ask, G, 1279 words, Jack and Bunny have to resolve a miscommunication about what it means when Bunny asks for Jack to be his mate.
Tied for #2:
More Questions Than Answers, T, 1114 words, after literally sleeping together, Jack bombards Bunny with a bunch of questions that he wants to know the answer to before they more figuratively sleep together.
What Part of More Don't You Understand?, E, 731 words, Jack is a cis woman and she has to clear up a misunderstanding with Bunny: she actually likes it when he hits her cervix during penetrative sex.
Tied for #3:
How Old?, G, 526 words, Jack and Bunny clear up a miscommunication about what Bunny means when he calls Jack “mate.”
AND!!!
Give You Everything, E, 24,577 words, Eddie and Venom discover what true symbiosis can be and admit they love and want each other.
I'm so excited that something I wrote purely out of my own fervor made the top three this month. I wonder if there's been an overall resurgence of symbrock, and if so, why? Maybe just Valentine's Day; they're very romantic. ;) Of course, I still hope all the Jackrabbit shippers are still having fun.
The same as last month, the fic I was most excited to get any kudos on was:
The Hawk and The Hearth, E, 51,746 words at 7/10 chapters
This is my newest fic, updating weekly. It’s a The Dark Crystal fic, UrVa/UrGoh in a pre-Age of Resistance story, where they spend a cozy winter night together and also contemplate their place in relationship to the other mystics and each other.
There were 68 fics that got kudos in February that had not gotten any kudos in January, which means that so far in 2025 just over 40% of all my fics have gotten at least one kudos.
There were also many fics that got kudos in January that didn't in February, but that's not fun so I shan't quantify it here.
It’s past midnight my time, so I decided to put up my Secret Santa gift for @rin0rourke for @rotgsecretsanta <3 They requested Bunny x Jack with cuddles and hot chocolate. I don’t draw much Jackrabbit, but I hope you’ll like it, Rin0rourke!
Daily Fic Highlight: How Old?
Today's winner of the kudos email is:
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
"How Old?" is a Jack/Bunny ficlet that I wrote for a prompt in Round 1 of the Rise of the Guardians Dreamwidth Kinkmeme. Bunny keeps calling Jack "mate," and one day in the Warren, Jack finally brings up how Bunny is actually a lot older than that piece of Australian slang. 526 words, G, M/M.
Sample:
“Thanks, mate,” Bunny says, laying his hand on Jack’s arm and letting it linger. It’s been a long day for both of them in the Warren. Bunny had spent most of the day leading Jack through parts of it even he hadn’t been to in years, wild, overgrown places that desperately needed attention. Some of them, new places that Bunny had claimed he had never visited, though they were surprisingly close to the heart of the Warren, he had asked Jack to freeze. “You need my help? I thought you were the best at what you did,” Jack had said, but much more softly than he would have just a few months before. And Bunny hadn’t snapped back at him, but smiled instead. “I am,” Bunny had said. “That’s why I know enough to ask you to help me. These groves need real winter to flourish.”
Monthly Fic Round-Up: June
This month stands out from the others in that, while there's a clear winner for the #1 fic by kudos, and the #2 spot has a tie between two fics, there's fourteen fics that all had the same number of kudos to earn them third place. It's not a large number, so it seems like in June there was moderate attention, widely spread out. And that will make this a long post.
June's #1 fic by kudos is:
Single Snowflakes, T, 1058 words, Bunny comforts Jack about a bad thing that happened to him that he’s worried was his fault.
The two that tied for #2 are:
How Old?, G, 526 words, Jack and Bunny clear up a miscommunication about what Bunny means when he calls Jack “mate.”
The Cigarette Trope, M, 1363 words, After a sex marathon with Sandy, Pitch is in Dreamland sort of smoking a cigarette. The Guardians, unaware of their activities, confront Pitch, and awkwardness is shared by all.
All have placed before.
Now, for the fourteen tied for #3!
Accommodations, T, 1230 words, After a fight with Jack, Bunny seeks Sandy's advice.
Cause and Effect, T, 1515 words, Sandy loses control of the dreamsand and the Guardians have to ask Pitch to help.
Clearing, E, 17,237 words, You're drawn deep into the woods while hiking along on the summer solstice and have a memorable encounter with Moder. (The Ritual 2017)
Collar, T, 693 words, Sandy and Pitch are not exactly being appropriate in public. Jack's been given the task of telling them.
Down and Dirty, E, 1532 words, Bunny fights Jack to bring spring, but one year it turns to sex. (This one has placed before.)
Give You Everything, E, 24,577 words, Eddie and Venom discover what true symbiosis can be and admit they love and want each other. (This one has placed before.)
Human After All, G, 578 words, Bunny is surprised to learn Jack used to be human, rather that always being a fey, because he’s pretty much acted like one.
Redefinition, T, 1085 words, Pitch and Sandy spooning.
Terrifyingly Easy, M, 937 words, Sandy sets out to make Pitch fall in love with him so he'll be less evil.
Three's a Crowd, G, 1072 words, Jack's been feeling sick, and goes to Bunny to see why. The answer may surprise you! (And Jack!)
Unresolved Argument, T, 620 words, Bunny and North's friendly argument...breaks off.
What It Means To Ask, G, 1279 words, Jack and Bunny have to resolve a miscommunication about what it means when Bunny asks for Jack to be his mate. (This one has placed before.)
Wonder Full, E, 3819 words, Jack and North have sex, with a focus on how big North is compared to Jack. (This one has placed before.)
You're Awful, I Love You, M, 28,519, Pitch is kidnapped by Eris, and the Guardians have to free him.
That's so many. I think this might be the horniest month so far, but having so many fics tie for third skews that.
The fic I was most excited to get kudos on was:
Incarnation, E, 152,468 words
I still love this massive long fic about SkekGra and UrGoh falling for each other at the Circle of the Suns. I'm proud of it. I enjoy rereading it myself. Let's unlearn shame together.
There were 17 fics that got kudos in June that hadn't gotten kudos January-May. That means that so far in 2025 just over 70% of all my fics have gotten at least one kudos.
Daily Fic Highlight: The Grand and Glorious Cycle of the Earth
Today's winner of the kudos email is:
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
"The Grand and Glorious Cycle of the Earth" is a Jack/Bunny ficlet that I wrote as a fill for one of the prompts in Round 1 of the Rise of the Guardians Dreamwidth Kinkmeme. Bunny's been hiding out in the Warren, telling everyone he's not to be disturbed. Jack visits him anyway and finds that Bunny is hiding a terrible secret for a Guardian of Spring...seasonal allergies! 944 words, G, M/M.
Sample:
“Augh! What the—Bunny, why?” Jack wiped at his mouth with his sleeve. Bunny didn’t immediately respond, choosing instead to blow his nose on a pale green handkerchief, fold it up again, and set it on the bedside table. “Jack,” he said, “I feel like I should be the one to ask that question. I was just lying here, and you decide to breeze in through the window and try to bite me. That’s not something I could’ve expected, and being sneezed on is probably the mildest reaction you could expect.” “You sneezed into my open mouth,” Jack said, making a face. “And I wasn’t going to bite you, I was going to nip you. You know, nipping at your nose?” “Cute,” Bunny said skeptically. “Now, I’m not really in the mood for—whatever you’re going for, so…”
Daily Fic Highlight: Just What I Wanted
Todays winner of the kudos email is:
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
"Just What I wanted" is a Jack/Bunny ficlet that I wrote as a fill for one of the prompts in Round 1 of the Rise of the Guardians Dreamwidth Kinkmeme. It's a fluffy fic where Bunny gives Jack the first Christmas present he's gotten in 300 years. 713 words, G, M/M.
What else can I say? It really is that simple.
Sample:
“There’s no point to it,” Bunny muttered to himself. He had been muttering this to himself for the past month, sometimes with more extensive commentary. “I don’t even know what he wants.” “North’s going to get him something far better.” “This isn’t what I do, what am I thinking?” “He doesn’t even need it, he’s gone three hundred years without one.”
Daily Fic Highlight: Thought That Was What You Wanted
Today's kudos email winner is:
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
"Though That Was What You Wanted" is a Jack/Bunny ficlet that I wrote for a prompt in Round 1 of the Rise of the Guardians Dreamwidth Kinkmeme. The memory of his death makes Jack feel cold all the time, so he seeks out help and warmth from the Warren/Bunny. 679 words, T, M/M.
Simple premise, little fic, but that's sometimes just what's needed.
Sample:
“You don’t look so good,” Bunny says bluntly to Jack when he shows up in the Warren one day. “Jeez, Bunny, I thought we were friends now,” he replies, hating how false his attempt at lightness sounds. Instead of perching on top of one of the mossy rock formations like he might normally do, he settles onto a boulder near Bunny so he can talk to him without having to stand. “We are.” Bunny frowns and steps a little closer. “That’s why I didn’t beat around the bush before telling you. Are you okay? I thought it was coming round on the end of November out there. Shouldn’t you be gearing up to have the time of your life?”
