He leaned in towards me even closer and then he looked at me directly into my eyes.
COLT- “Kid, I am really flattered. Seriously. You seem like an amazing kid. Intelligent, very good looking and just all around, a nice guy. And I seriously am flattered that you find me attractive. But I am almost twenty, and you are what, maybe a junior in High School? I hope this doesn’t upset you, but I am not into dudes like that. I really really like females. I mean REALLY like them. Please, don’t be upset or embarrassed, because it makes me feel good that you think I am someone you’d be interested in. I would definitely like to be a friend, and be part of what you want to do in our neighborhood. Would that be cool?”
I almost was ready to be sick. I was so embarrassed, even though he said that I shouldn’t be. I had made a complete fool of my self, and this guy was so apologetic and nice about it. That made it even worse, because it just made me that more attracted to him. But I needed to answer him.
DEACON- “Sure, that would be awesome. I am really sorry...”
COLT- “No, don’t be, okay? It takes a lot of gumption to do what you did. I am impressed. See what you want and you go for it. Nothing to be sorry about. My sister, as you know is gay, and I know a lot of people, friends and family that are gay, bi, trans and I know how hard it is for them, trust me. So you keep doing what you are doing, please.”
DEACON- “Thanks, that really means a lot.”
COLT- “I may not be gay, but I am definitely an ally and your friend, Deek.”
JACOB- “So you ready Colt? I have to be at work in twenty minutes.”
I had completely forgot about Jacob being there, and again I became even more embarrassed doing this in front of his friend and neighbor. I wanted to just crawl under the table and run away. But instead, they left...
COLT- “Come back once you talk with your grandmother, Okay?”
DEACON- “Yes, I will and thanks again. Both of you.”
JACOB- “Not a problem kid.”
