Jacques Fabbri - Moustache, Pipe and Gloves
One of my favourite French actors, the late Jacques Fabbri (1925-1997). I've mentioned him before, but after I watched Diva (Jean-Jacques Beneix, 1981) again with Brian last night, I felt a few more posts of this attractive man wouldn't go amiss.
Like Georges Brassens and Bernard Blier (another two of my heroes), he was a dedicated pipe-smoker, which he tried to get in to as many of his film roles as he could.
In the role of Commissaire Saporta, the corrupt Parisian policeman, he excels in his pipe smoking and, here, in a later scene, in leather gloves.
Another bull of a man. I don't usually go for unkempt hair, but on Fabbri it works. The moustache, of course, is another attraction.
Apologies for the fuzzy quality of the pictures. It is surprising, given what a great actor he was and the number of excellent films he was in, that pictures of the man are not as common as they ought to be.
And I find it shocking that, when he filmed Diva, he was younger than I am now.
