The streets of the old French town were empty and quiet, aside from the crows.
And the tapping of shoes against the pavement. You had heard it many times before and you no longer feared the dark figure outside. A crow landed by your window, glowing yellow eyes lighting up the darkness.
You sat up in your bed, looking back at it. The creature didn't blink or move, fixated completely upon you. A sweet smell wafted through the air into your room, slipping through the cracks of your window frame. Thick smoke gathered around as your heart instinctively started beating faster.
Finally getting to your feet, you felt the cold floor contrasting with your warm skin as you reached for the window. Outside stood the dark figure, fully dressed in old plague doctors garb. The light mask contrasted with his clothing.
His head raised, as did the crows. The bird flew back down past the figure as he observed you. The thick smoke poured from the gaps in his mask near his face, almost entrancing you. Both of you waited for the others first move until you finally went to open up your window.
You could feel the tension diminishing, oddly enough. Turning around you went to grab your glass of water. You didn't react to noises coming closer, nor the shadow cast over you, blocking out the moonlight. Soft breathing sounded as the figure crawled through your window. Taking a sip of your water, you looked over your shoulder at the man.
"Quite a shame, you looked lovely whilst sleeping," the muffled voice of the plague doctor sounded as you scoffed playfully.
"Were you really spying on me?"
Jacques chuckled to himself, his tall figure looming close to yours. "How can i resist?" He mumbled, reaching back to pull down his hat and hood, unclasping the beaked mask. You turned to meet his pale face and usually neat brown hair that was slightly messy now. Reaching into his pockets, he grabbed a pair of glasses before placing them on his face.
"You were so inviting, after all," he replied as he sat into your desk chair, crossing his legs. "I didn't even do anything, i just made small talk." You huffed, sitting down on your bed, looking back at him. The man just smirked, staring right through your soul it seemed.
"Jacques, seriously." When you called out his name he shifted slightly, leaning back to lean his elbow on your desk. "You can't follow me around everywhere," you continued, causing him to roll his eyes slightly. "I have respected your boundaries.. besides, you let me in." You saw the yellow gleam in his eyes. The cold of the window crept in, though it barely seemed to phase him.
Adjusting his black gloves, he rose to his feet, towering over you once more. his face was completely obscured by darkness aside from his soft yellow eyes who were still bright, making him look even more ominous.
"You desired to, no?"
