I know maybe nobody cares about this but I must say it…I don’t understand people when they criticize the movie they say Jacquimo is “self centered” “an egoistic character”. They’re just being mean to him without reason! Don’t they remember he flew with a thorn in the wing under a snow storm to help Thumbelina? 

He helped selflessly since the beginning! When Thumbelina was lost and scared on that leaf HE found her and HE was the first one to help her! And when she was feeling sad because she had been humilliated and called ugly on the insects ball, HE was there to cheer her up and give her comfort, and a wise advice.

Moreover! When she was devasted because she thought cornelius was dead and was starting to think to marry the mole, it was Jacquimo who told her not to do so. And when she pulled out the thorn of his wing HE CAME BACK AGAIN ON HIS MISSION TO LOOK FOR THE DARN VALE OF THE FAIRIES! Even if he was injured! Because he promised her that.

And HE FOUND IT. And HE took her there! And what he received in return for all  the pain an misfortune he has to go through.?

Nothing.

Nothing!

Not even a hug not even a gesture of gratitude from thumbelina! I never heard a “Oh thank you Jacquimo you did it! You’re my best friend!” or someting like that. Even on the weeding she never payed any attention to him.  If it was me, I would have given him a big hug….and I would have married him instead of marrying Cornelius. Because he was the only one character on the movie who genuinely cared about her, and didn’t just liked her because “she was beautiful”, because of how she looked.

The only thing maybe he received, was the happiness of having helped someone, maybe.

Plus, the thorn in his wing was not “unrealisting” like lot of people say, au contraire, it very realistic in my opinion. Think about it:

At first when he found the fox and he got the thorn, he said it hurt him a little. But he had this thorn on his wing for a pretty good while, and then it got worse because winter’s cold came into play, and the cold on his bones made his injury a lot worse. So it was logic that at that point, after he was blown away by the snowstorm wind, he couldn’t fly anymore. Have you ever tried to walk with an injury on a cold snow strom? No?….Do it if you think I’m not right of this. And you’ll realize I’m right.

So au contrairie mes amis! He’s probably the most selfless, caring and kindhearted character in the entire movie. And maybe on any animated movie I’ve watched.

We saw Cornelius had his dramatic scene of him fighting the snow storm and yelling up “thumbelina!!!” so we know he he was doing his best to help. And it was cool.

But NOBODY on the movie appreciates, or even aknowledges all what Jacquimo went throught to help…And apparently, the viewers either, because there are people who dare to call him “selfcentered" “selfish” and “egoistic”. 

He got the worst part on this story the poor! And he could easily said “no sorry but it’s too difficult I can’t help you", but he didn’t. Why? because he has a big selfless heart. just because of that!

So this is why I did this drawing, it was to represent how I imagined he would have looked like before he couldn’t fly anymore and fell into the Mole’s tunnels. Cos I think he deserved more time on screen! And a dramatic scene as well, and I feel it was missing.

I took the chance to make him talking in french a bit more in this dialogue to make emphasis on the phrase “my friend it’s counting on me” to convey how he was determined to help and fullfil his promise. I admire his determination and perseverance!

Oh mon dieu, I can imagine my dialogue being said with Gino Conforti ‘s voice! And It’s so, so truly awesome!!! :D I love his voice in the original version, and and his accent is so sexy, I tried to write it here more or less hehe.

So hope you can read this dialogue on your minds with Jaquimo’s voice! :D And I hope you like the drawing of course.That will make me very happy. ^^

And for the drawing tecnique, I think I got carried away with this sketch, hehe

At first I was supposed to do lineart and color it, but at the end I decided to paint it in sepia. Not sure if it was the best tecnique, but was a ton of fun to draw and paint like this ^^ Maybe later I’ll make a painting with it, I don’t know, it depends if you like :)

What is cooler than drawing hair?...Drawing feathers and bird wings! hehe

I love drawing birds, they are so beautiful! And so much fun to draw!

But I in these moments I think I feel even more motivated to draw them when they're my favorite cartoon characters. So here a couple of Jacquimo studies I did today of him as a more accurate swallow ^^

I usually don't post my sketches, cos I feel they might be not very interesting to see. But I've been feeling a bit insecure of my artwork since the critics about my drawings are not very well proportioned and all this kind of stuff.

So I thought it was going to be a cool idea to share these so you can help me to decide if one of them is good enough to make a painting with it. I would love to hear your opinion!

Oh and I took off his boots at the end cos I wanted to draw his feet. Swallow feetsies are super cute ^^

And the witch hat...I just think he looks better without it XD

Today is saturday so I took a break of everything and I watched a movie. I usually watch watch my movies on the internet but I harldy can get my movies with mexican dubbing anymore, so tried on the TV for change of winds. And on one of the disney channels there was Don Bluth's Tumbelina. And it was so really cool to see it again in spanish from mexico! ^^ I feel in in love with spanish from mexico again, and with Jacquimo, just like I fell in love the first time I watched the movie, cos the voice cast it's super awesome.

Specially Jacquimo's voice! Is so sweet and heartwarming, yet so manly at the same time! And the voice actor, Arturo Mercado, was really excellent to make a french accent in spanish!  I've always been fascinated and amazed about his skills on that regard!  

People I know here haven't heard Jacquimo's voice in the mexican version, so I recorded a bit of it. Well it was for a friend cos I was thinking of her when watching the movie and and I thought it was going to be cool to share with her what a french accent in spanish sounds like. But I also would like to share it here will y'all, because it's so cool! :D Also cos I hope that with this you could understand more why I love Jacquimo so much, hehe

The voice of a character, it’s a very very important part of a fictional character identity and soul. I think this one is perfect to Jacquimo cos it conveys hearwarming, sweet and loving nature of his personality without taking out his manlyness. And I think that’s the coolest, most wonderful thing ever!

I wanted to make art of him today, but I took me a good while to upload this video and to write this XD

Also I took a while I took up for the movie online in Spanish from mexico, and I found it, even if it had a bad video quality, and watched it again. Sorry,  It’s just it's very rare to find the movie in spanish from mexico in these times, so this was an amazing event for me today. I felt happy to hear Jacquimo's voice in mexican dubbing again! :’)

Also, while the video was loading I took the time to look for it in english and watch it in english, too.Cos I like the english voice cast as well. I think I got used to Jacquimo's voice in English by now, because now I like his voice a lot in both versions, hehe. I think both of them have their charm in their own way ^^

I just realized, I've watched this movie 3 times in a row today! XD Then I proceeded to repeat for 1 hour or more the parts where Jacquimo talks in both versions english and spanish...Just because it’s really awesome, don’t blame me! XD

Now as an adult, I realize more that the movie has a few story plot flaws... like oh for example this article points them out  And I'm aware some of these are actually true flaws. But there's also great moments to enjoy in the movie if you are willing to leave aside the little story plot details.

Plus, the first time it called my attention because of Jacquimo as a kiddo, and I now as an adult, I rewatch it for the exact same reason, hehe. I think it's one o the few movies I actually like to rewatch from time to time.
