The more and more I write/think about it the more and more I feel people are underselling Wintle. I know I already mentioned the similarities in my Jade Winglet Rarepairs post but there I was making an argument that was closer to: oh they’d have so much to talk about!
Now it’s more like… oh they’d understand one another like no one else would be able to. Like. The prince stuff, the daddy issues, the inferiority complex developed by their sisters being so important etc etc etc but also like.
Them both deciding to retreat from relationships and the world at large. Winter does it by becoming as sharp and repellent as possible. Turtle does the exact opposite, smoothing himself out and fading into the background so no one will even really notice him. But they both have the same goal in mind for the same reasons. “I must push every dragon away so no one can find out how much of a failure I am.”
I stg one deep conversation and they’d be inseparable.
Falls to my knees. Qiblijou. Kinkabli. Whatever you want to call it. Does anyone understand. Does anyone understand.
Now, as a certified AroAce, I am not the type to pedal that every dynamic ever has to be romantic. But also. I think they're cute as a couple. But ALSO also, even if you do not care for them as a couple, I need more people to discuss and write about and draw their dynamic. I need more if it like, yesterday.
Having to put this under the cut because it got crazy fucking long but like trust me. Trust me okay.

A sketch of two dragons from the Wings of Fire book series. The dragon on the left is Moonwatcher, a dark green NightWing. She has curled horns, braids, and circular scales beside her eyes. She is holding hands with the left dragon, Carnelian. She is a maroon SkyWing with horns that curl forward. She has feathered wings and a necklace adorned with animal teeth. Moonwatcher is smiling while Carnelian is talking.
HEAR ME OUT
What do you mean Jade WInglet isn't one big polycule???
What Wings of Fire Rarepair ships do you like and/or have?
>:)))
For starters, me and my mutual @themightymoose concocted Riptide x Clay a while ago for funsies, and I've recently brought the idea up again and I think there's potential there! They're both guys who had unfair misconceptions thrust upon them from adults at a young age, and are often overlooked in the fandom. So yeah! I think it's a cute idea :)
The next one might sound a bit weird, but please stick with me here. Dusky x Cliff, specifically the aged up versions of them that I have in my brain for a hypothetical arc 4. Timid traumatized guy who doesn't know how to interact with people his own age x excitable himbo bard who takes it upon himself to befriend the shy kid is essentially how I see them! I do agree that shipping the children characters together as actual young children is weird, but that's not what I'm doing here, and I don't wanna hear anybody twisting my words around pretty please 🥺
Next is poly jade winglet! (inspired by this post) Cause why limit yourself to a couple ships when you can have all of them at once. I just think it's kinda funny, and the idea of arc 2 ending with Moon x Qibli x Winter x Turtle x Kinkajou is awesome. Realistically, they all have tons of therapy to go through before this should happen, but once they're past that I think it could be sweet!
This one is purely crack about background nobodies, but Lionfish x Wharf! Which if you don't remember, they're Fathom's guards besides Indigo that come with him to the night kingdom. I'm pretty sure that after the whole... Arctic Thing, we never hear about them again, but I like the idea of them after that being like, "Wanna go into retirement early?" "Sure man." And then they just like, chill on a beach for the rest of their lives
And I'm pretty sure that's all I have that isn't already shipped by quite a few other people! If it's not, or if I come up with anymore, I might make a part 2. Thanks for asking!
Arc 2 ending the way it does continues to baffle me. The idea of Moon seeing her life stretch out before her without Kinkajou in it every single day and her being okay with that is just ridiculous. The idea of Qibli seeing his life stretch out before him without Winter in it every single day and him being okay with that is equally unbelievable.
The idea of Winter just! Giving up! Of just BEING OKAY with not having Moon or Qibli in his life every single day is JUST. WHAT? WHAT!!
Qibli and Moon getting 'married with kids ever after' is the most unbelievable part of set of books where the big bad is defeated by a strawberry I stg
