Jelsa Week 2014 Submission #1: Jack Frost Solo Song
Song Title: Who Needs Them Anyway?
This is a song I wrote for an upcoming fanfiction I will be posting on Fanfiction.Net in the future. If Jack was in Frozen, and he had a song, I’d like to believe that this would be it.
(Jack, after failing to get a young Kristoff and Sven to notice him.)
"Geez, what the heck do I gotta do? I’ve tried snowball fights, snowmen, sleigh riding, even ice skating! What do I gotta do? What, d-do I gotta sing for them or something?!"
Jack crosses his arms, and stands there. Thinking to himself, the thought of what he just shouted echoes through his mind in the short seconds after he suggests it.
Looking around, he sees that no one has yet to notice him, and sighs bitterly. “What the hey? Not like they can hear me anyway…”
He begins trudging down the street, while holding both sides of his head with his hands, staff in the right one.
This maddening silence is hard to ignore.
It really annoys me to the core!
What do I gotta to do to get a little attention around heeere?!
He spotted three children, making fun of young Kristoff behind his back, while saying how abnormal it is to talk to reindeer. This made the Winter Spirit frown, as he made a snowball in his hand.
Do I gotta throw some more snowballs?
Make more ice patches and watch ‘em fall?
Or put a little frostbite in their eaaars?
He threw the snowball at the boy on the right, while using his staff to make a patch of ice underneath the middle one. Finally, he put his left index finger into his mouth, covering it with his saliva. He tried to put it into the ear of the boy on the left, but found that, unsurprisingly, his hand phased through his head.
"Figures," he muttered, before gliding to the center of town, while slamming his staff into the ground.
Well, now I’m making my stand.
For ignoring me no matter what I dooo!
He then pointed to a large group of people, who were walking by him.
As of nooow, I’ve decided,
And this actually has me a bit excited,
To ignore you, you, and youuu!
Truly feeling the sense of excitement he described, Jack then called for the wind to lift him into the air, where he landed on an empty rooftop.
Because I can do anything that I want to,
And no one can tell me what to saaay!
No one can whine or complain about what I do!
I wouldn’t want it any other waaay!
He walked forward, glaring at the Moon with a victorious smirk.
No one can tell me what can or can’t be done.
It’s my way, or the high waaay!
There’ll never be a dull moment; there’ll only be Fun!
He glanced down at the people below, unaware of his presence, and waved them off.
Grinning fully, Jack flew off towards the nearby mountains. He frosted the tips of a few trees, as more snow became visible. The invisible boy stopped when, to his delight, he saw a group of ice harvesters camping in the forest. The spirit landed near them, with his euphoria set on high.
Being alone is as good as it sounds,
There’s more fun to be had when no one’s around!
Like getting into a snowball fight, and never getting hiiit!
He scooped up some snow in his hand, and shot it to one of the harvesters, who was strumming a guitar. The man looked around frantically, trying to see who had thrown the snowball. Jack Frost laughed at his expense, before looking at the other campers.
And freezing their tongues to their drink!
Makin’ them slip on the ice rink!
Bein’ invisible’s got its perks, I’ll admiiit!
Jack used his staff to make the flask of a man cold enough, to where his tongue stuck to it when he tried to drink from it. He then flew away from the camp, but the force of the wind pushing him caused an ice harvester, who was skating on a frozen pond, to slip and fall on his rear. The Winter Spirit chuckled at the man’s pained expression as he flew by.
He then soared towards the direction of Arendelle, but stopped when he hooked the crook of his staff to the trunk of a pine tree. The boy spun around the tree wildly, with his shawl flapping behind him. He stopped eventually, and crouched on the top of the tree.
But the best part of this situation,
Is the lack of rules and obligations!
There’s no responsibility when I’m alooone!
No permissions to depend on!
I can stay up past dusk and dawn!
I can go anywhere when I’m on my ooown!
The wind then lifted Frost into the air, as he made his way back towards the town.
Because I can fly oh so very high,
With a million destinations on the waaay!
He reached the town, and glided slowly past unsuspecting people. He waved at them dismissively.
And I’ll wave at those people, as I pass them by,
Without letting their silence ruin my daaay!
He landed at the town square, joy filling his lungs and his voice.
No one can tell me what I can or can’t be.
I’m a rebel with no rules to obeeey!
And although I’m alone, I’m also free!
Jack Frost laughed to himself, before taking a deep breath.
I don’t need them anyyyy-
"C’mon, Sven!" called Kristoff, as he walked through Jack, right before he finished his song.
Jack let out a sharp gasp, as the chill went through his whole body.Catching his breath, the Winter Spirit turned to see the orphan run off with his reindeer friend.
“But I’m still tired, Kristoff!”
"If we don’t hurry up, the other ice harvesters might eat all the carrots, Sven. And that means no dinner," the little ice harvester explained.
Jack Frost watched as the duo ran off towards the outskirts of Arendelle. Letting out a sad sigh, Jack walked slowly towards the docks. The previous sense of elated joy was completely gone from Jack, as he was reminded of a simple fact.
No matter what he could claim or say, loneliness would always get to him.
"Heh… I don’t need them…" he whispered, before looking towards the horizon, where the Moon’s light reflected on the water.
Sighing he began to sing again, but in a sadder tone than how he sang previously, and with his eyes firmly closed.
What I would give for them to see,
The lonely Winter Spirit that is me,
And for them to let me in on my own Fun…
What’s the point of having ice powers,
If I have to spend endless hours,
Failing to show them off to everyooone?
Jack then made it to the end of the dock, where he slowly sat near the edge. The invisible boy slowly opened his eyes, and looked at his reflection in the water.
But I don’t know what to do.
I’ve tried everything, too.
I even went ahead and sang this tune…
Frost’s eyes then slowly went across the water’s surface.
Yet, the only clue I’ve got
To answer the question I ask a lot
Is that the solution lies with the Moooon.
The Winter Spirit’s eyes finally looked up to the satellite in the sky.
So Man in the Moon, please hear me.
Listen to what I have to say.
I’m tired of this silent eternity.
I want to know if this is how things’ll staaay.
Jack Frost then stands up, fully addressing the silent watcher.
If not, then tell me: why am I here?
Or at least let someone see me… Okaaay?
Maybe someone who can lend me… A friendly ear…?
I would want that any day….
The Winter Spirit watches the Moon silently, for what seems like an eternity. Finally, he clutches his staff tightly, fighting the urge to cry.
I would want thaaat… Anyyy… Daaay…
Jack Frost looks up at the Moon again, before bowing his head in disappointment, as the Moon remains silent once more.
