If you're starting here, I'd recommend reading Part 1 first, since that's where I cover the early rumors and the timeline leading up to Dream.
2025
For several years, this whole story was pretty much forgotten. Since there weren't any new coincidences and Jaewon had almost completely stepped away from the public eye, most people just assumed it was another ship that had come and gone.
But then 2025 happened.
When Dream was released, a lot of people started digging through old interviews, old posts, and even songs from years earlier. And it all started because of one very specific line at the beginning of the song:
"Are you always gonna hate me for that night in Tokyo?"
Right away, people remembered that Lisa and Jaewon had both been in Tokyo back in September 2019.
Up until then, that had never really been anything more than another coincidence. But with Dream mentioning Tokyo so directly, a lot of people started piecing together everything that had happened that year all over again
That's when one particular theory really started gaining traction. According to that interpretation, if there actually had been something between them, then that "night in Tokyo" could've been the moment it all came to an end
From there, people also went back to PRVT 01, the album Jaewon released in 2019
It wasn't so much about finding identical lyrics. What caught people's attention was how similar the overall atmosphere of both projects felt. They both revolve around dreams, nostalgia, memories, the impossibility of going back to the past, and the feeling of holding on to someone who's no longer there
Of course, those are all pretty common themes in music. Even so, considering everything that had already been discussed over the years, it's easy to see why so many people started comparing PRVT 01 with Dream
And before people even started comparing the songs themselves, there were already a few details in the short film that caught everyone's attention and led many fans to revisit old interviews, old posts, and even some of the symbols that appear throughout Dream.
The Lake and the Tree
I think this is one of the most interesting visual connections.
In Dream, Lisa asks Kentaro what he'd like to be if he could be reborn. She says she'd want to be a tree, while he says he'd want to be the lake in front of that tree because he likes the way the water reflects its image
Years earlier, during a promotional interview for Goodbye Summer (2019), Jung Jaewon was asked almost the exact same question
His answer was that he'd like to be water. He said that rivers, lakes, or any peaceful body of water seemed beautiful to him, especially because of the way sunlight reflects on the surface
It's not the exact same answer, but the similarity is definitely interesting. In both cases, the conversation is about being reborn, and water ends up playing an important role
What's even more interesting is that this conversation is basically the only real dialogue in the Dream short film, so it didn't take long for people to start connecting the two.
The Grief Metaphor
This was actually one of the parts that stood out to me the most, because it can be interpreted even without connecting it to Jaewon
In Dream, Lisa portrays a breakup almost like she's grieving someone's death. She doesn't know where that person is, she can't talk to them anymore, and all she has left are her memories. The entire short film gives the feeling that someone simply disappeared from her life
Because of that, some people felt the story was about someone who had, in a way, "died" to her—not literally, of course, but emotionally
That interpretation reminded some fans of something else. After early 2020, Jaewon almost completely disappeared from the public eye. He deleted his social media, stopped making public appearances, and for years there was barely any news about him.
Lisa's Instagram Post on November 11, 2019
Another detail that people often bring up is that on the very same day ONE released PRVT 01—November 11, 2019—Lisa uploaded a black-and-white photo to Instagram of a landscape where water was the main focus
After Dream came out, a lot of people remembered that post and connected it to the symbolism of water, the lake, and the idea of being reborn that appears both in Jaewon's interview and in the Dream short film
Taken on their own, none of these details would probably seem that significant. But when you put them all side by side, it's easy to understand why this whole story sparked so much curiosity again after the release of Dream.
From this point on, we're getting into the most interpretive part of the whole story. This isn't really about timelines or coincidences anymore—it's about the comparisons people started making between Dream and a few songs from PRVT 01. Obviously, all of this is completely open to interpretation.
Dream × Last Cigarette
Out of every song on PRVT 01, Last Cigarette is probably the one people compared to Dream the most.
Dream feels like it's being told from the perspective of someone who's still trying to make sense of a breakup years later, someone who's still holding on to the memories. Last Cigarette, on the other hand, feels like it takes place right in the middle of the goodbye. It doesn't sound like a love that's faded away—it sounds like a love that's still there, even though both people seem to understand they can't stay together.
That's why a lot of people felt like the two songs could be telling different chapters of the same story. One captures the actual goodbye, while the other shows someone who's still living with those memories long after it's over.
A Goodbye That Still Hurts
From the very first lines, Last Cigarette makes it clear that the person singing knows the other person has to leave, even though deep down, they don't want to let them go.
> "You should leave and go a little farther away."
> "No... Will you stay here instead, quietly by my side?"
Throughout the song, it feels like he's constantly torn between accepting the goodbye and asking them to stay just a little longer.
Dream carries a very similar feeling.
> "When it ended, I kinda hoped that it'd be open-ended."
> "But you never looked back."
Neither song approaches the breakup with anger or resentment. Instead, they both feel like two people who still care about each other but, for whatever reason, ended up going their separate ways.
The Things They Never Got to Say
One of the parallels people talked about the most after Dream came out was these two lines.
Lisa sings:
> "Call you up, but I can't get through."
While Jaewon says in Last Cigarette:
> "I couldn't even answer your call."
The lyrics aren't exactly the same, but they almost feel like two sides of the same conversation. One person tries to call, while the other admits they couldn't answer.
That's when a lot of people remembered that not long after releasing PRVT 01, Jaewon slowly disappeared from the public eye.
Because of that, some people felt that Lisa's line in Dream took on a whole new meaning—as if she were talking about someone she simply couldn't reach anymore.
Trying to Understand What Happened
Another thing both songs have in common is uncertainty.
In Last Cigarette, Jaewon repeatedly admits that he doesn't even know what he wants anymore or how to put his feelings into words.
> "Even I'm no longer sure what it is that I want."
> "I don't even know what I'm trying to say, or what I'm supposed to say."
> "I hope you'll understand me."
Lisa expresses a very similar feeling in Dream.
> "If you got the harder side of the break, then why is it harder for me to take?"
Neither song really tries to blame anyone. Instead, they both feel like they're still trying to understand a goodbye that continues to weigh on them.
Wanting That Moment to Never End
This is another detail I found really interesting.
In Last Cigarette, Jaewon sings:
> "Let's stay focused, because we both know this moment will never come again."
> "I don't want to think about tomorrow."
> "I hope, just like me, you wish morning would never come."
Meanwhile, Lisa sings in Dream:
> "From sun going down to sun coming up."
In both songs, the night almost becomes a safe place where time stands still—as if, as long as morning doesn't come, there's still one more chance to stay together just a little longer.
Sometimes Letting Go Is Another Way of Loving Someone
This is a much more personal interpretation.
In Last Cigarette, Jaewon repeats the line:
> "Now, you have to find your own way."
On its own, it can simply be understood as accepting that the other person has to move on.
But when Dream came out, a lot of people were reminded of a theory that had been floating around for years. If Lisa and Jaewon really had been involved, maybe things ended because their lives were heading in completely different directions.
After 2019, Lisa's schedule became more and more demanding with world tours, promotions, and international activities. At the same time, Jaewon had just left YG and was starting an entirely new chapter as an independent artist.
On top of that, dating was still an especially sensitive topic for K-pop idols during those years.
That's why some people connected that idea to this line from Dream:
> "Well, I guess you can't hold on to something once you let it go."
Rather than saying they've stopped loving someone, both songs seem to express the feeling of accepting that, because of life's circumstances, there comes a point where you can't stop someone from following their own path.
What Stood Out to Me the Most
If I had to pick just one thing, it'd be this.
Neither song feels like the love is gone.
In Dream, Lisa is still looking for a way to find that person again, even if it's only in her dreams.
In Last Cigarette, Jaewon knows he has to let her go, but at the same time, he asks her to stay by his side just a little longer.
That's why I've always felt like both songs are about a separation where the feelings never really disappeared. It doesn't come across as a breakup caused by falling out of love, but by circumstances that slowly pulled two people in different directions.
My Final Thoughts
Personally, I think Last Cigarette is the song from PRVT 01 that has the strongest connection to Dream
Both songs are about people still trying to understand why things ended, about words that were never spoken, phone calls that never connected, and that desperate wish to freeze time before saying goodbye
More than stories about love fading away, they've always felt to me like songs about a love that never really disappeared—but, in the end, wasn't enough to keep two people together.
Dream × Alive
If Last Cigarette got compared to Dream because of the way it portrays a goodbye, Alive caught people's attention for a completely different reason
Rather than focusing on the end of a relationship, Alive imagines a place where two people can still be together, far away from everyone else. Dream gives off a very similar feeling, just from the opposite perspective. In Dream, that place no longer exists in real life—it can only be found in dreams
That idea of turning dreams into a safe haven is exactly why so many people started connecting these two songs.
A Place Only They Can Return To
In Dream, the relationship is already over, and the only place where the two people can still meet is inside a dream.
Lisa sings:
> "But I know a place where we could be us."
> "I know it ain't real, but it's real enough."
> "Whenever I close my eyes."
> "Been drowning in dreams lately."
> "I'll see you in my dreams, maybe."
Alive starts from a different place, but it ends up arriving at a very similar feeling.
Instead of looking back on someone, Jaewon imagines running away with that person to a place where no one could ever find them.
> "Let's disappear and live with only each other."
> "In a place only the two of us know."
Then comes one of the lyrics people compared to Dream the most:
> "I'm dreaming a dream I never want to wake up from."
In both songs, there's a place that exists completely outside of reality. For Lisa, it's a refuge she can only reach when she's dreaming. For Jaewon, it's an imaginary place where no one can touch them. Either way, they both end up creating a space where that connection can still exist.
Dancing Instead of Talking
This one is completely open to interpretation.
There's a line in Alive that a lot of people found interesting:
> "Forget the words—let's just dance."
Beyond the lyric itself, some people connected that image to Lisa, since dancing has always been one of the biggest parts of her career and identity as an artist. It doesn't prove anything on its own, of course, but it became another one of those little details people added to the list of comparisons.
My Thoughts
What makes this comparison stand out to me is that both songs imagine a safe place where the relationship can still exist. In one, it's a dream that no one ever wants to wake up from. In the other, it's the only place where the two people can still be together.
And interestingly enough, that same idea shows up even more strongly in another song from the album: Instinct.
Dream × Instinct
If Alive is often compared to Dream because of the idea of an imaginary place where two people can still be together, Instinct caught people's attention for a different reason
The song feels like it's about someone who simply can't let go of the past. It revolves around memories, regret, and the desperate wish to see that person again—even if it's only for a moment.
Dreams as the Last Place They Can Meet
I think this is the clearest parallel between the two songs.
In Instinct, Jaewon sings:
> "Let's meet in our dreams..."
> "Let's meet in our dreams—when we wake up, it'll all be gone."
Meanwhile, Lisa sings in Dream:
> "I'll see you in my dreams, maybe."
> "Whenever I close my eyes."
In both songs, dreams stop being just a metaphor and become the only place where the two people can still find each other.
Remembering, Forgetting... and Learning to Let Go
This is where the two songs start to go in different directions.
In Instinct, Jaewon repeatedly expresses the desire to leave the past behind.
> "I'll erase yesterday's and tomorrow's memories."
> "I'll probably regret it for the rest of my life."
Dream, on the other hand, takes the opposite approach.
Lisa holds on to the memories because they're the only thing she still has connecting her to that person.
> "It's taking me back in time."
Both songs deal with the same kind of pain, but while one tries to forget, the other chooses to hold on—even to the memories that still hurt.
That contrast also shows up when they talk about distance.
In Instinct, Jaewon sings:
> "Please leave me—go far away from me."
While in Dream, that distance already feels like an unavoidable reality.
> "Don't know where you sleep lately."
And in the end, both songs arrive at a very similar conclusion.
Lisa sings:
> "Well, I guess you can't hold on to something once you let it go."
While Jaewon says:
> "I couldn't hold on to your love."
Both lyrics are about a loss that can't be undone. The difference is that Dream seems to accept it with sadness, while Instinct comes from a place of regret.
Neither Song Blames the Other Person
Another thing I found really interesting is that neither song tries to blame the other person for what happened.
In Instinct, Jaewon sings:
> "I'm selfish."
> "My heart is too weak."
Meanwhile, Lisa asks herself:
> "If you got the harder side of the break, then why is it harder for me to take?"
Instead of pointing fingers, both songs feel like they're coming from people who are still trying to make sense of a breakup they haven't fully understood.
My Thoughts
If Alive and Dream are connected by the idea of dreams, Instinct stands out because of the way it deals with loss
Both songs are about someone who's no longer there. The difference is that Dream holds on to the memories to keep that connection alive, while Instinct tries to let those memories go—even though it never fully manages to.
Dream Mode
Out of all the comparisons people started making after Dream came out, this one stood out for a completely different reason
This time, it wasn't about the lyrics—it was about the title itself
Dream Mode was an unreleased song Jaewon worked on after leaving YG Entertainment, but it was never officially released.
Unreleased Song
Back in 2019, Jaewon posted a few Instagram Stories, and one of them included a short snippet of the demo.
The Story showed the title Dream Mode over the reflection of a cloudy sky, while a brief preview of the song played in the background.
Even though the song was never officially released, that Story confirmed that the project actually existed.
Over time, the Story disappeared along with his Instagram account, but some people had saved screenshots before it was gone.
When Lisa released Dream in 2025, those screenshots started circulating again because people remembered that years earlier, Jaewon had already teased a song with a very similar title.
There was another detail that people also pointed out.
Dream Mode was reportedly performed during a show in Tokyo in 2019—the same city Lisa would later reference with the line "that night in Tokyo" in Dream.
Obviously, that doesn't prove anything on its own, but it became another one of those coincidences people brought up once this whole story started gaining attention again.
Dreams as a Recurring Theme
Beyond the similar titles, what really caught people's attention was how often dreams showed up in the music Jaewon was making during that period
In Alive, he sings about a dream he never wants to wake up from
In Instinct, he imagines meeting someone again in their dreams
In Soljik, that same dreamlike world appears once more
And then there was an unreleased song called Dream Mode
Years later, Lisa released Dream, a song where dreams also become the only place where she can still reunite with that person
I think that's why so many people ended up comparing the two projects. It wasn't really about finding identical lyrics or direct connections. What stood out to them was seeing the same idea show up over and over again in both of their music.
