Happy boys
Victor harrumphs.
- Don’t try to kiss up to me, young man. I’m harboring no illusions about your kind. Boyfriend. Ha! Just another idiot after an easy lay. Of course, I’m sure this one puts out quite well. She got at least one thing right in life, if she did chose a completely unsuitable profession, that one did.
Miles has to use every fiber of his being to keep himself from throwing a punch at Victor's smug face, even as he sees Sheree go stiff near him.
His emotion seems to be well expressed by Darla’s outburst:
- I can’t, just make it stop already, Nolan, do something!
Nolan: But what can I do? It’s normal.
That, of course, is directed at the unmistakable sound caused by Jake furiously licking his balls behind them, which rather sets the mood for this evening.
Miles inwardly chuckles. It’s really quite ridiculous that a grown man feels the need to show up unwanted at his adult daughter’s house with his entire posse and do his best to belittle both her and her boyfriend, whom he has just met. And it’s quite sad. Despite being visibly older than both of his parents, Victor is likely a very insecure and immature person, who, for some reason, never found real satisfaction in his life.
Victor: Why so quiet. Cat got your tongue?
Miles: No, just thinking. My uncle always says that when a person is eager to accuse others of something, it’s because they are most likely to be most guilty of that thing themselves. So, by that logic, whatever awful thing you’re thinking about me and your own daughter, must be true about you. Of course, I hope I’m wrong about this.
Cass looks away, discomfort obvious on her face, while Sheree inhales sharply. She’s probably going to be mad at him for this, but Miles feels the need to defend her against this person, who clearly missed the memo that a father was supposed to be loving and supportive.
Just like Sheree described, the house is in state. Piper’s doing her best to look glued to the TV, the noises coming from the cat indicate the arrival of multiple hairballs, and the four older people are busy in some type of a discussion.
From the sounds of it, it’s about the suitability of the house. The women aren’t happy with how there’s cat fur over most surfaces, while Victor is lamenting the absence of home cooked food in the fridge. Nolan is nodding along, as usual, agreeing with his friend on things.
All eyes turn towards them when Miles and Sheree come in.
Victor: Who’s this? Don’t tell me you’ve turned this place into a party house of some sort. Is this what you’re spending my money on?
Sheree: You’re not paying a cent for this place, Dad. This is Miles, my boyfriend.
Victor: Hmm.
Sheree’s mom bites her lip and puts on a smile. She knows how her husband can get.
- Hello Miles. It’s nice to meet you. I’m Cass, by the way. Sheree, why didn’t you introduce you young man before?
Victor: Maybe ‘cause she knows this one won’t last around for too long, as usual. Can’t even cook a fucking meal, can’t she?
Nolan: It’s true, girls. How are you living like this?
Darla: It’s preferable to eat out, when every surface in the house is a health hazard. I can’t believe she went and got a cat. They are so unsanitary!
Miles thinks he can hear Piper snicker in the back. Looks like she had acquired the feline as a strategic measure to keep the fam away.
Schooling his face into a pleasant neutrality, he offers his hand to Victor. He can tell Victor is the sort of person who thrives on conflict, even with his own family. And he’s sure not giving him that pleasure now.
Miles: Hello, Mr. Merrill. It’s great to finally meet you.
Mood: Playing guitar to your cat.
Woken up by her cousin’s voice, Piper nearly falls off the bed when she sees Marw next to her. Despite the horrified expression in her eyes, she manages the best hungover voice and tells Sheree:
- Uhh, you go ahead, cuz. I’ll be in a little later, mkay?
Sheree: Alright. Just remember to bring your phone. And maybe back it up completely before you do, in case Dale says the video recording isn’t enough. Although, I doubt that’ll happen, but you know, better to be safe than sorry. I still have to remind Miles and Talia to come in and give their statements of the night. See you.
As soon as they hear the door close, both jump up and start dressing.
Marwick: I can’t believe we had sex again! How much did we drink?
Piper: Chill, Romeo, we didn’t. We both had our underwear on and I don’t know about you, but I never do after sex. As for the drinking, well, that’s another question entirely.
Cat Sitting
So, I am at my aunts and getting to hang out with the fuzzes. I don't baby talk them, but I do talk in a higher register then my normal voice most of the time. Though it does depend on the cat. Attention seeking Jake, is usually 'Mister man' or 'Jakeyjakejake' and other things like that. Sasha as she keeps her space, gets more normal voice saying hi and polite conversation. And the boys outside get happy higher voice of all the praise. So, I am making some food, with some chicken in the microwave. As well as putting cream cheese on some bagels. Jake is sitting at the edge of my vision. The microwave beeps as it's done. Which I mentally note and keep working on my bagels. After a little bit of time, the microwave beeps to let me know it's done. Legit without thinking, I sat there and talked in the cat voice to the microwave. "You'll have to wait. I'll be right there." Before pausing and registering what I just did. Also, cat Tax
