- Jake can be a bit of an asshole, a lot of the time, and abandons everyone the moment a trial starts. except for you, he’ll take you with him and makes sure to never split up. if a killer comes, you two have agreed on a meet up spot
- Despite not being much of a talker at the campfire, because he’s a broody bitch, whenever you two end up together, he makes sure to talk to make things easier on you.
- He only does PDA when no one is looking, or around, which works out just fine for the both of you. He never gets randy though, just kisses, hugs, and hand holding. Sex, in this place? He’d get hooked in an instant.
- He always tells you what he’s thinking, so he doesn’t make you worry about if he’s mad at you are not. It’s not you, Jake is just is a naturally crabby person, and has a resting bitch face.

1. How do they fall asleep? Wake up? Any daily rituals?
They’re quite cuddly. Even if they didn’t go to sleep in each other’s arms they often wake up to find that Taylor is resting against Jake’s shoulder and he has that arm wrapped around her. Waking up varies, either very lazy mornings filled with groaning and “five more minutes”, one of them stretching and smacking the other in the face. Or, groping each other half asleep that devolves into sex. I don’t make the rules.
2. How’s their team work? Do they share well?
GREAT. They got through a bunch of hellish life and death situations on La Huerta, their daily team work is a piece of cake. Although they argue over whose turn it is to do a certain chore.
3. Are they open about their relationship? How do they feel about public displays of affection?
VERY OPEN. Jake McKenzie doesn’t give A F*CK. If he wants to kiss Taylor, he’s gonna kiss Taylor. And she doesn’t mind at alllll. A big lesson from the island is you gotta live in the here and now and say you love the ones you love when you can. Everyone hates them a little for it. Lots of eye rolling and groaning and, “Seriously? Do you have to do that HERE?”
4. First impression of each other? Was it love at first sight?
Not love, but they were attracted to each other right away. Taylor saw this pilot sleeping in the cockpit with his feet up and thought he was lazy, snarky, but cute. Jake definitely noticed her when he laid eyes on her, masking it with jokes and nicknames, of course.
5. Nicknames? Pet names? Any in-jokes?
They totally have inside jokes. Usually with the rest of the gang, but they have a bunch they have to themselves. Mostly flirty and dirty and no one else gets it, but they get annoyed because they wish these two would stop it with their level 100 PDA. Nicknames/petnames: Babe, Princess, Joker. <3
6. Any tasks that are always left to one person?
They kinda settled into the routine of Taylor cooking and Jake doing dishes. Some sort of similar agreement goes for most of their other chores.
7. What annoys them the most about their partner? Would they change it if they could?
They love each other’s little quirks, but what annoys them both is that the other has the tendency to cut the other off for their sake. Taylor not telling Jake or the gang about some dangers (that she could talk about without messing up time) just to protect them. Jake trying to make her go when Lundgren was after them. Stuff like that. They wish the other would let them just be there for them cause they’re supposed to be a team, but the need to protect the other gets in the way.
8. What do they like best about their partner?
Taylor loves Jake’s hair (she runs her fingers through it a lot because it’s surprisingly soft), and the smirk he gives her a lot. Let’s not forget the beautiful blue eyes that like to wander over her body.
Jake loves her smile. He tries to hide it most of the time, but it makes him melt. And the way she smells. When they’re lying next to each other at the end of the day and he takes in her scent he feels happy and safe, because to him she smells like home.
9. Do they discuss big issues? Religion? Marriage? Children? Death?
Yes but they’re both a little awkward about it and there’s a lot of beating around the bush. But they eventually do, especially when a situation forces them to. Jake makes sure to insert a lot of jokes and puns to deflect the awkwardness of any conflicting opinions. Although they surprise each other with their very similar views anyway.
10. Who drives? Cooks? Does the handiwork? Cleans? Pays the bills? Handles the public?
Taylor drives. Jake actually only knows how to work planes. Go figure. Taylor cooks most of the time except for when Jake is in the mood to barbecue or grill things outside. Jake does a lot of the handiwork around the house. Cleaning is split, with they heavy-duty outdoor stuff taken care by Jake (he likes it because you do those less often than say, sweeping lol). Taylor pays the bills. They hate the public XD
11. Do they celebrate holidays? Anniversaries?
They do! They usually have a thing with the gang then sneak off to have some private time drinking together, lying in a hammock cuddling, or… things.
Their favorites are New Years and their anniversary. Add to that the anniversary of Jake’s name being cleared, letting him move back to the states so they can live together.
They also celebrate the anniversary of when they all returned home. It’s a special holiday only they celebrate. Lots of feels and good times on that day.
12. Is there a wedding? What was the proposal like? Any kind of honeymoon?
THERE IS. It was on the island. Their relationship never went along the normal progression anyway. Everything just happened quickly. Jake proposed one day after all the mess on La Huerta. They were still on the island, but everything was more lax. They could afford to party, relax, and figure out how to get home in peace.
Jake and Taylor were sitting quietly on the beach, talking about how great it felt to be free from all the weird stuff. And Jake is staring at her as she talks about home. He never thought about getting married, but he wasn’t stupid, either. He saw very clearly how lucky he was, how he wanted her and only her, and just asked then and there. Why wait?
It was a lovely little ceremony officiated by the Vaanti, with a feast of course and Raj getting everyone drunk. They saved the honeymoon for when they got back home, and had it on a regular island getaway without time magic nonsense.
13. What do they do for fun? Do they have a favorite activity or do they like to switch things up?
They’re very chill. They like to lay around the house, or go for walks and hikes outside. Occasionally they do go for an adrenaline rush: surfing, jetskiing, diving, Jake flying them around, that kind of stuff.
14. Anything they both dread?
An angry Michelle, Zahra, Estela, and worst of all Grace lol
They can handle anything else, really.
15. How adventurous are they?
Very. They’re that type of couple that likes to go on mountain hikes and would try anything that gave you a big adrenaline rush.
16. Do they keep secrets? Lie? Cheat?
Nope. By the time they get back from La Huerta they’re pretty much open to each other all the way. There are times though when they feel the need to hide something from the other when they feel like it would keep the other safer or it was unnecessary to worry them about it, but these things usually come out if they need to.
17. What would make them break up? Would it be permanent?
If they can’t keep up with adjustments in each other’s lives. I mean Taylor would be adjusting to the new life of being an adult: finding a job, getting used to paying bills, and figuring out what she wants to do with her life. Jake on the other hand has to get used to being back in the states, and could have trouble adjusting into the quiet normalcy of everyday life.
I could see Taylor hang on even if they had trouble keeping up with each other on top of these life changes, but Jake would be the type of guy who might ask to cool off if he feels like he’s being a burden or hindrance in her new life.
Probably not permanent. Taylor is stubborn and would keep coming back.
18. What are their dates like? How long do/did they date? Do they ever feel the need to take a break from each other?
They feel a little awkward at first readjusting to life back in the normal world and going on actual dates that didn’t involve simultaneously running away from prehistoric predators. But when they do adjust, they hang out a lot.
Jake shows her around his hometown, and they like to take little trips together and he shows her all the places he’s been with his old plane Delilah. They like going to bars together, or camping, or just hanging out at one of their houses or in the backyard, lounging around, talking, and drinking or eating. When they get a little bored of the quiet, they like to go hiking, or to the beach and do fun activities like jetski races ofc.
I HC that Taylor doesn’t really have a home in the US like she thinks, so when they go back they move in together right away. They maybe date for about a year before Jake cuts the BS and asks her to marry him lol. They were never the couple to take things slow anyway. They were sure of each other from the start.
Ofc they need breaks from each other. Everyone needs alone time. Taylor likes to go out with the girls: Michelle and Estela especially, while Jake likes to have alone time in his hammock or watch a game with Craig, Zahra, and Sean.
19. What do they fight about? What are their arguments like? How do they make up?
They fought quite a bit when they were adjusting to a normal life and living together. Not having to worry about surviving attacks and starvation lets you notice the annoying things a little more. They argue about bad habits and chores, but nothing too big. Their arguments are just a few annoyed words, then one of them, usually Jake, walks off before they lose their temper and say something they don’t mean.
They make up by just approaching the other and hugging them, mumbling an apology. Always a lot of make up kissing/sex lol
20. What does their home look like? Their room?
Simple, but homey. These two could live on a shack on the beach and decorate it with a bunch of souvenirs from their travels, which is basically how they decorate their actual home. Nothing fancy. Same with their room.
21. Do they share any interests or hobbies?
Yes! I imagine they love watching sports and support Sean in his career. They also love outdoors-y type activities. Jake shares his enthusiasm for flying, and tries teach Taylor how to fly his new little plane. Taylor introduces Jake to a bunch of her favorite TV series.
22. Does their work ever interfere with the relationship?
In the way of time maybe. They feel frustrated when they’re trying to get into a routine. Taylor is a fresh grad trying to settle into her first job and she’s kept busy quite a lot. Jake on the other hand doesn’t have too many options after serving his country. He goes back to being a pilot and is away a lot.
23. How do they hug? Kiss? Tease? Flirt? Comfort?
Jake often does the side hug, draping one arm around Taylor to pull her in then kiss her on the forehead. Taylor likes wrapping her arms around his waist when he does this and buries her face in his chest.
Their kissing always leads to things. They can’t help it, they enjoy the feel of each other too much and if they are alone, they will take advantage lol.
Flirting is shameless. Doesn’t matter when or where, even in serious life and death planning mode with the gang, Jake especially will find a way to pull out a flirty joke or pull her into a kiss. You miss all the shots you don’t take, is one of his life mottos.
They comfort each other with light-hearted jokes, words, and light touches or lingering hugs. Like when Taylor found Jake’s idol. She hugs him for comfort and he returns it, asking her what’s wrong and reassuring her. Or like in the tent before they went after Rourke and Jake poured his heart out to her about Mike. She was there for him and reassured him, making sure he knew she was there for him.
38. What are they like in the bedroom? Any kinks/fetishes/turn-ons? Anything they won’t do?
Insatiable, really. They just go at it whenever they can and wherever they can, you saw them on La Huerta lol EVEN IN THE CAVE XDD
So they’re really hungry and rough about it, especially in the beginning, but then they also have that side where they’re softer, slower, and are more gentle - usually in quieter moments and later on when they fall hard for each other.
They won’t do anything too crazy, but they do like to mix it up now and then (cough tying each other up is canon cough). Hmm stuff with food, blindfolding, doing it in non-bed places, stuff like that. Jake loves LOVES watching her though, it’s a simple thing is a huge turn on for him. Like he’ll watch her as she moves on against him or he rocks against her, drinking in the way her face looks, how her hair is splayed over the sheets - all of it. Drives him crazy.
41. Are they party-goers? What are they like when they’re drunk? Does it happen often?
Yes but in that relaxed way. Like, they’ll go to a party, but are the ones sitting around and just drinking in their own little group. Jake isn’t drunk too often. The man’s threshold is HIGH. But when he is, he gets kind of sleepy and is extra touchy with Taylor. He also either laughs more or gets a little miffed with people around him who make fun of him cause he looks so drunk. Like Craig will crack a joke and Jake tries to push him a little, but he misses and just ends up sitting on the floor. Idk XDD
Taylor is drunk more often. She tries to drink the same stuff Jake does, but usually can’t keep up. She’s a happy drunk, prone to dancing, yelling, and lots of giggling around her friends. She’ll also drape her arms around Jake a lot, kissing him all over his cheek and ruffling his hair, still giggling.

But then they join in of course cause they’re cool parents.
Imagine Jake and MC waking up in the morning and lazily cuddling each other. Then their kids barge in, jump into bed with them and they all just wrestle and laugh loudly. MC tickling them and Jake blowing on their stomachs and having pillow fights with them.
Jake hugging MC from behind and kissing them every morning while they cook breakfast. And the kids giggling or going ewwwww. But then Jake just teases them more by kissing MC even more.
Jake and MC having late night dates where they stay up after the kids are asleep and just drink and play strip poker.
Jake and MC dropping off the kids at a friend’s house to spend a weekend together in a hammock in their backyard drinking beer and whisky until they fall asleep staring at the sky and talking the night away.

Omg I see Jake doing this at least once and he’s so awkward about it. Like, he’ll do it he doesn’t care what other people think, but he gets a little nervous if MC will like and appreciate it. Of course they do, and he doesn’t let on, but it makes his heart flutter and he can’t help but crack a small smile.
Who initiated the first kiss
MC. Jake’s the kind of guy who initiates when he’s sure there’s something there. In the beginning he was just flirting with MC, but got so flustered when they made a move like hold his hand. MC knew this, so they kissed him first. They didn’t want to end up dying on La Huerta never having made their move yknow?
Who kisses the other awake in the morning
Both definitely. When Jake wakes up before MC, he can’t help but stare at them sometimes. He’ll just prop himself on one arm stroke their hair while staring at them and thinking about how lucky he is that he found MC and that they ended up together. Then he can’t help but start kissing MC all over their face and it wakes them. MC just grins because what’s a better way to wake up??
MC gets silly about it. When they need to wake Jake up cause it’s time to move or go to work or something, they don’t just nudge him and tell him to get up. They straddle him and pepper kisses all over his face and his neck and his chest. The noisy kind of silly kisses where you’re smacking your lips together. Jake is also ticklish around his collarbone which MC gets a KICK out of.

MC. Usually as payback for some snarky comment. Jake twists and wriggles uncontrollably and MC has a blast.

Both. If you haven’t noticed Jake x MC is a pretty flirty and snarky ship. When the mood strikes and they see the other naked and wet in the shower they can’t help themselves.

MC. I have this domestic hc where Jake becomes a mechanic. I bet he loved working on his plane Delilah back in the day, and he’d feel right at home doing something similar. Anyway, MC will cook something delicious that Raj taught them, and they’ll drop by Jake’s work.
“Need a little pick-me-up, Joker? Got some comfort food right here.”

Both were a little nervous, but mostly Jake. I picture them trying a “real first date” after La Huerta. Yknow, going to dinner, dressing up a bit. Jake gets nervous because they’ve never done anything like that. How do you do normal??? And he fusses with his hair and his clothes. MC tells him to relax, that it’s still them like back on the island. Then they hand him a beer/whiskey and he calms right down.
Who kills/takes out the spiders
Both. After sabertooth tigers and giant crabs, spiders are nothing.
Who loudly proclaims their love when they’re drunk
MC. Usually while dancing. The gang shakes their head and they’re all embarrased for them. Jake finds it cute though.
Jake does it a bit, too, but he’s quieter about it. Like he’ll sit next to MC and drape his arm around them then just slur it in whispers in their ear.
Who runs up to the other and hugs them after a long day?
Both! A long day on La Huerta though could mean a long day of almost dying, so after any conflict, they take a second to catch their breaths then instantly look for each other. Once they see one another they just run up and wrap their arms around each other in relief. Jake in particular likes to lift Taylor up then pepper kisses all over their face, then holding their face in both his hands asks, “You okay, Princess/Boy Scout?”
On quieter days? They’ll crawl to one another in the tent and just nuzzle up in each other’s arms without a word and fall asleep with little smiles on their faces. <3

Jake!! Boy doesn’t care who sees. Y’all got some downtime and Taylor’s looking good sitting quietly by the fire cooking so he takes advantage of some much needed cuddle time.

LOL already answered but JAKE! Usually whenever he gets too into the hug like he’s way too happy or way too relieved after some incident and he can’t help but lift Taylor up a bit.

Both. Their PDA makes Aleister and Zahra wretch and they love it. Sometimes they’ll do it just for that annoying effect.

Jake!! It’s canon in Book 2′s New Year chapter. He likes to have Taylor lie on his shoulder with his one arm wrapped around them. Taylor wraps their arms around his chest in return. Sometimes also a leg around the waist for that extra closeness loool.

Answering both these questions cause they’re kind of similar anyway? BOTH! They adore each other so much they tend to hug tightly or roughly a lot. Usually when they’re being silly and just want to squeeze the other person, or yet another “YOU’RE SAFE AND ALIVE” hug.
Can they feel each others heart racing when they hug?
Usually. Like I said they tend to hug after the crazy events. So there’s a lot of racing hearts.
But yeah, hearts race during the quieter times, too. Usually Jake. There are just times on quiet nights holding Taylor that he starts thinking about how lucky he is to be with them even though everything else in their lives was crazy and it makes his heart soar.

Taylor! They get way too excited sometimes. Can you blame them look at Jake omfg. Jake gets caught off guard for a bit but then usually laughs at how they knocked him over. Then he rolls Taylor over so he’s on top and there’s either kissing or tickling. XD

Neither. When Taylor needs a hug, Jake knows instantly and just hugs them <3 When Jake wants one, he just goes for it too. The man is touchy and it’s WONDERFUL.

Taylor does it in quiet moments especially when they’re cuddling before bed. Jake likes to kiss Taylor’s neck and cheek more than the forehead when hugging.
What do they like most about being in each others arms?
Taylor deals with A LOT what with leading the gang and La Huerta trying to kill them and also their weird fckn powers??? They love being in Jake’s arms because it’s one of the few, if not the only place they feel safe, at peace, and normal.
Jake loves being in Taylor’s because it also gives him peace. He feels grateful and happy that in a life where it seems like he keeps losing things and people, that he found Taylor.
What does one another smell like? Do they like the smell?
You mean besides the dirt and sweat while trekking all over La Huerta?? LOL
Idk why but Taylor’s natural scent has a hint of fruits and flowers on it. Similar to the ones found on the island. Jake wonders how they find product to make themselves smell that way but nope it’s just how Taylor is and when Jake learns that it’s a bit of a turn on. Of course he loves the smell!
Jake used to smell like a garage especially when Delilah was still around. He worked on that plane so often that the grease and oil and smell of the metal would stick to his clothes. After though, that smell disappeared and Taylor can smell Jake’s natural scent more. It’s subtle, earthy. Not exactly like the earth after it rains, but close. Taylor likes this smell better XD
When they hug, who snuggles their nose against their partners neck?
Jake. He savors every moment that he gets to hug Taylor and he frckn loves the way they smell. He nuzzles their neck every time in an effort to commit to memory the way that Taylor smells and how it feels to hold them close.
Ok, this is for @starlightlokitty (it won’t tag you?) and @jakeymckenzie who requested all loool. SO I’mma just split this into parts for you guys. First 1-10, then 11-20, lastly 21 - 31.

1. What drew your character to their LI and vice versa?
Jake was drawn to Taylor’s spirit and spunk. Where else am I gonna find a girl like that who has the same snarky ass comments as me, Jake thinks to himself often. Also, he finds it hot how much of leader she is. She’s fearless, people look up to her, she’s confident, and is smart. She’s probably the reason he and the rest of the others are alive, he thinks. He’d follow her anywhere.
Taylor was drawn to Jake because of the jokes and nicknames. There’s something about a sarcastic guy who knows how to chill that she finds so attractive. Also, it may have been those military-grade muscles. And how sweet he can be underneath it all <3
2. What was the first moment that they knew they were in love with their LI?
Taylor knew it during a quiet moment at the resort they found in the snow. She woke up to find herself in his arms, Jake’s hand around her waist. She looked up at him and watched him for a few moments as his chest rose and fell with each breath. He looked content and peaceful and she smiled to herself when she realized that she loved him.
Jake knew for a whiiiile before he said it. It honestly surprised him how quickly he fell in love with her, but he couldn’t deny it. It was the night before they went through the portal on the rooftop of The Celestial. He was watching her aim the gun and readying everyone to go through. He wasn’t entirely sure until later that this was definitely the moment he loved her. He felt a knot in his chest and realized that he would be heartbroken if they didn’t make it, and he never said or did anything. So he leaned in and suddenly kissed her with everything he had in him, hopefully he could show her better than he could say it. He was afraid the feeling wouldn’t be mutual if he said it so soon.
Then he pulled away and smiled at the sight of her, her eyes still hooded and dizzy from the kiss, her lips swollen, and said, “Now I can die happy.”
3. When they are having a fight, what is it about and how do they deal with it?
On the island, I’m not sure what Taylor would get mad at Jake for. She’s got a lot on her mind and is usually pretty easy-going.
Jake gets angry whenever Taylor runs off without him, or telling him or anybody else what the hell she’s up to that time. La Huerta is crazy dangerous, and it kills him to know that he could be with her and helping her with whatever and she just runs of to do it on her own. He’ll usually go after her, snark a bit, but help anyway. Then makes some cheeky shit remark, “You’d better thank me later for saving your ass again, Princess.” /wink.
4. Their favorite physical feature on each other?
Jake loves Taylor’s big, beautiful eyes. He thinks they’re adorable and his heart leaps up into his throat whenever she looks at him with a loving or flirty twinkle in her eye. He also loves her figure. He’s shyly admits to her one day in the future that he’s embarrassed by how much he thought of the curve of her hips after that day she asked him to put sunblock on her.
Taylor loves Jake’s hair. She plays with it all the time. Twirls it around her fingers, ties it up when she’s bored, and runs her fingers through it when they’re cuddling at night under the stars.
5. How do they comfort each other when they are sad?
Jake is adorable his brow gets all furrowed cause making Taylor sad makes him sad and he’ll ask her what’s wrong. When she clearly doesn’t want to talk about it he just pulls her in for a long quiet hug and kisses her forehead and hand. She’s never told him, but she loves it because it makes her feel safe.
Taylor’s ready in hand with a couple of drinks for the both of them plus a few teasing jokes about him and he usually cracks a smile. If Jake’s too upset for that to work, she sits next to him and they talk it out, or they just sit. Usually Jake’s on the beach looking out at the ocean or the sky. She rests her head on his shoulder and wraps her arm around the other, gently stroking his chest. Jake loves it because he’s not the most touch-feely guy, and the fact that Taylor can give him some breathing room, but still be there means the world to him.
6. Who is the big spoon?
They take turns! Everyone deserves to be little spoon now and then XD
Jake does it more often though. He loves the feeling of having her in his arms. And in a way, it gives him peace of mind that he has her. He literally is holding her in his arms, which comforts his sleepy, fearful mind that she is real, she is safe, and she is there with him.
7. Favorite date activity?
They are either super chill or super adventurous. There is no in between. Favorite of each kind? Laying outside in the sand or in a hammock together as they drink and talk for chill dates. For adventurous dates? Doesn’t matter as long as they went through some crazy thrill -- like jetski racing or skydiving.
8. What are their most prominent memories of each other?
Angst alert. Taylor has a few, and unfortunately it’s the painful ones that stick. She often thinks about the time he died in her arms at the hands of Varyyn. Then again in her vision of Jake’s idol, when he gave up a chance at escape to save her. She loves him more for that, because she would have done the same for him. But she can’t ever get that image of Jake smiling up at her as the life drained from his eyes.
On a brighter note, she also can’t get the image of seeing him shirtless and asleep in a hammock for the first time. He looked gooood.
Jake remembers a lot about her, and it’s usually these little moments when she caught him off guard or when she just looked so beautiful to him. Like when she held his hand at the control tower. Or the image of her underwater, swimming up to him, a sad look on her face, searching his, before he pulled her into is arms. And that moment in her room right before they kissed, when her big, beautiful eyes stared back at him in this tender way that made his heart flutter.
9. How open are they with their feelings?
They’re only really open about their feelings towards each other. Jake never liked talking about things, because he hated the touchy-feeling that comes with it. Plus, the feelings he has get pretty heavy, and he often just wants to forget. He was a little slow and awkward with sharing his past and feelings with Taylor, but he got there eventually. Now he opens up whenever she lends an ear to listen. He’s thankful. She’s the easiest person to talk to. Just listens, never judges, and usually has great advice.
Taylor isn’t averse to sharing her feelings with Jake, but sometimes there are things that are better left unsaid in her opinion. Her being the Endless and knowing a lot of things that her friends shouldn’t know weighs on her. But she can’t share any of it. She just finds comfort in cuddling with Jake, or joking around with him and making sure she’s doing everything to keep him and their friends safe.
10. Do they have pet names for each other?
Jake has a bunch like the generic babe and sweetheart, but he uses Princess the most.
Taylor uses Joker the most, but she also has a few more and what she uses depends on her mood. Flirty Taylor says babe, sexy, muscles; Jokey Taylor uses Jared Leto, Joker, Aragorn, Top Gun, and a bunch of other references XD
