On June 10, 1997 - StarWars.com officially confirmed that Jake Lloyd and Natalie Portman had been cast in George Lucas' highly anticipated return to the galaxy far, far away: Star Wars Episode I.
Jake Lloyd would portray the young Anakin Skywalker, while Natalie Portman would take on the role of Queen Amidala of Naboo. At the time, anticipation for the Prequel Trilogy was reaching a fever pitch, and this announcement gave fans their first official glimpse into the future of Star Wars.
⭐ Natalie Portman was just 15 years old when she was cast as Padmé Amidala.
⭐ Jake Lloyd was selected from thousands of young actors who auditioned for the role of Anakin Skywalker.
