East Village in Motion: Paintings by Jake Nelson
July 15 – August 19, 2016
These paintings are a culmination of the time I spent living on 9th Street between Ave C and D. The East Village has been a magical place for me. I've met mentors, patrons, and surf buddies. I have run into old friends from 10 years and 3000 miles away. I have made new friends and promised to grow old together. I've shared a grassy hill with those who call Tompkins home, however beautiful or desperate they may be. These paintings mark a special time and place in my life and I hope they bring some feelings to you as well.
I was born on a hippie commune in Oregon, went to film school in Los Angeles, and moved to NYC 9 years ago. In August 2016 I'll be moving to London. New York has been good to me, but it's time for me to move on. Consider this art show a resignation of me as a New York City painter. Along with New York Central Art Supplies, I say goodbye.

Visuals by Jake Nelson
Drown is a combination of hand-drawn animation, live action, and visual effects including computer animation and the 3D imaging of still photographs. By combining a variety of mediums, Jake Nelson has created a watery dreamworld that reflects Angelica's subconscious thoughts and fears. Jake was able to take complete creative control of the video from the very beginning, taking advantage of his experience in pre and post production. From designing and drawing the storyboards, animating and tracking each teardrop, beauty retouching, and everything in between, Jake was able to fully immerse himself, and now viewers, in the sorrowful siren-song "Drown".
Original song is "Drown" by Midnight Heat

So I have this date on Monday and
I just want it to go right with this guy. I'm tired of being alone, I'm tired of guys just wanting to fuck me and nothing else. I wish guys can be like guys in my favorite 80 movies. Like Judd Nelson, fist in the air cause he got me, or jake Ryan waiting for me at the church and just liking me for my brain, not my ass. I'm super worried and I feel like I shouldn't get my hopes up or put all my eggs in one basket.
