Toon Talk Weekly - Episode 175 - “Camp Lazlo”

On episode 175 of Toon Talk Weekly, Jake and Brad go back to summer camp when they watch an episode of “Camp Lazlo.”

Camp Lazlo was created by Joe Murray and produced by Cartoon Network Studios. Murray previously created Nickelodeon’s Rocko’s Modern Life. Camp Lazlo ran between 2005 and 2008 for a total of 5 seasons and 61 episodes.

The series follows Lazlo, a spider monkey, who attends a Boy Scout-like summer camp with a quirky cast of anthropomorphic characters. Murray wanted to create a show that got back to nature and had a calming feel in a pastoral similar to that of Merrie Melodies or Yogi Bear.

Toon Talk Weekly - Episode 166 - “Powerpuff Girls” (2016)

On episode 166 of Toon Talk Weekly, Jake and Brad power up and play some video games when they check out the 2016 series “Powerpuff Girls.”

We covered the original 1998 Powerpuff Girls series back on episode 8 of Toon Talk Weekly and we’re back talking about the 2016 reboot. The series is based on the original but with an update look and feel.

The story is much of the same with Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup trying to keep the city of Townsville safe of crime all the while trying to live a normal childhood. The visual look of the show has a clean, bright, updated look that puts the series more in line with other cartoons currently on the air. The action is fast, the jokes are topical, and the stories are a blast to watch.

Toon Talk Weekly - Episode 131 - “The Real Ghostbusters”

On episode 131 of Toon Talk Weekly, Jake and Brad get a little spooky and watch the 1986 series “The Real Ghostbusters.”

The Real Ghostbusters was created in 1986 alongside two comic series and a successful toy line in an attempt to capitalize on the popularity of the 1984 film Ghostbusters. The series ran for 7 seasons and 140 total episodes.

The series picks up where the 1984 film left off by following the adventures of the four main ghostbusters as they solve paranormal cases in the New York area and around the world. Think of the series in a “Case Files of the Ghostbusters” and you’ll know exactly what sort of show you’re getting into.

Toon Talk Weekly - Episode 115 - “Whatever Happened to Robot Jones?”

On episode 115 of Toon Talk Weekly, Jake and Brad discuss middle school, Scantron machines, and they watch an episode of “Whatever Happened to Robot Jones?”

Robot Jones was created by Greg Miller for Cartoon Network and aired from 2002 to 2003. The series has two seasons with 13 total episodes and was the 12th cartoon to be included in the network’s Cartoon Cartoons programming block.

The series was voted on by fans in 2000 and won second place to later be brought on as a full-time series for the network. However, turmoil between the creator and the network seemed to cause a rift large enough to have Miller leave the show and many things about the series get changed in the process. The series was then cancelled during it’s second season.

Brad and I definitely enjoyed the homage to 1970s and 1980s style animation in a more modern show. The stories in each episode are simple stories of a young character, in this case a robot, growing up and going through many relatable situations. Robot Jones is definitely a series to check out if you’re interested in the history of Cartoon Network’s programming, but it’s not a show that everyone remembers as one of the most popular shows to air on the network.

Episode 61 marks the two year anniversary of The Lane Podcast. The guys have come a long way since they first installed League Of Legends on their macs. This podcast has evolved as well and hopefully has become a better show for everyone that loves MOBAs. On this weeks episode Jake, Brad and Stark do a little look back at some of their favorite game moments and talk a bit about the future. They also chat about he new hero Rexxar that’s now available in Heroes of the Storm and gush about the animation in the new video from Riot Games.
