james and “whose black cat am i holding?”
hc where before regulus left grimmauld to move in with the potters, james had adopted a blue-eyed black cat he found while shopping for a new broom in diagon alley.
after a year with nisha, (yes he called it nisha because his black fur reminded him of midnight) regulus finally mustered up the courage to knock on the potter’s front door.
james felt surprised that nisha, friendly as he is, found it completely impossible to calm in regulus’ presence—a complete opposite effect reg had on james.
after a few months of silent bickering between reg and his black cat, nisha suddenly left and it destroyed james, left him silently in tears in his bedroom for days.
on a random winter night, nisha finally came back like nothing happened and sat on james’ lap. james’ heart leapt with joy that he was willing to forego nisha’s obviously not blue, but grey, eyes.
afraid to let nisha out of his sight once more, james coddled the cat so much, he carried it wherever he went like a newborn baby.
james promised to himself that he would talk to reg and convince him that they had more similarities than their stubborn attitudes could argue. except that james hasn’t seen regulus since last night.
overwhelmed with worry with nisha in his arms, james scoured the house and opened every single room that reg could possibly fit in. (even the dumbwaiter) what greeted james as he walked the second floor hallway is a black cat standing near the window. a pregnant black cat with blue eyes, eyes similar to nisha.
james had to rub his eyes, readjust his glasses, and take a double look between a pregnant looking nisha on the window and a grey-eyed looking imposter on his arms.
exasperated, james sighs to himself, “if you’re nisha, then whose black cat am i holding?”
before he could even call sirius, or regulus wherever he may be, the grey-eyed cat jumped from his arms and leapt outside the window. james never saw the grey-eyed cat again.
oh and also regulus arrived on the front door just right after that strange revelation.
james never made the connection, only happy to have nisha and regulus finally warm up to each other after that.
