Three Days of the Condor (1975). A bookish CIA researcher finds all his co-workers dead, and must outwit those responsible until he figures out who he can really trust.
This works well enough as a 70s thriller, with good pacing and an intriguing hook, but man, it feels very much of it’s time. Robert Redford playing a bookish researcher is - - y’know, kind of hilarious, haha, and while he’s good enough in the role, the movie never quite finds its footing for his character. It means that while the narrative intrigue is there, and the action sequences are a lot of fun, you never quite feel grounded enough in character to keep ahold of your interest. 7/10.
Movie #57 of 2019: Three Days of the Condor
Three Days of the Condor (the movie) is based on the book Six Days of the Condor by James Grady. Published in 1974, the novel served as the source material for the 1975 American spy thriller film, which starred Robert Redford.
3 Days of the Condor was released in the US on 25 September 1975.
Based on James Grady's 1974 novel, Six Days of the Condor (with a screenplay by David Rayfiel and Lorenzo Semple Jr), Sydney Pollack directed his 4th film with Robert Redford, and co-starring Faye Dunaway (coming off her Academy Award-nominated performance in Chinatown).
3 Days of the Condor was a commercial success, but some critics dismissed the film as "political propaganda" and not as interesting as the real-life political intrigue surrounding Watergate and the illegal CIA activities that had been exposed in December 1974.
