I’ve been so busy with schoolwork that it was a relief to have a few days off for Christmas. I thought about going home, but...what with the winter weather, I’d be surprised if I got there and back in time for classes next week. Oh well. I don’t think much has changed since I left. I’m sure mom and her friends are still living their hippie dream, oblivious to time marching on in the real world...and Thistle and Sparrow are still caught up in it too, because they don’t know any better.
I got a post card from Sulani - Jupiter didn’t go back home for Christmas either. Though I wouldn’t exactly say he’s joined the real world. He and his very pregnant wife and their daughter, Misty, are scraping by on his salary as a part-time lifeguard and fisherman. To each their own, I guess, but his lack of ambition baffles me.
I also got a card from my Auntie Jesminder in San Myshuno. Uncle Bennie’s health is getting worse these days but they had a merry Christmas all the same. Their son James graduated recently, and the three of them joined Uncle Cosme, Uncle Mark and my cousin Martin to celebrate. Martin lost both his parents, Uncle Tony and Auntie Callia, this past year, but apparently he still brought his Christmas spirit. I’m not surprised - from what I’ve heard, he’s doing alright for himself in business.
Maybe I should have gone home, weather aside. I do miss some things about the commune...and I miss mama, despite my best efforts.
