You had propped your feet up over the armrest, crossed knees, a glass of red wine half-empty, the words of the novel you had propped between your fingers beginning to fall in and out of recognition due to the tiredness that had swept over you.
You hadn’t seen Brahms in a few hours, but hadn’t paid too much attention to occurrence; instead, your head falling toward your shoulder as well as the back of the couch, you took a deep breath and allowed for the warmth of the blanket draped over your lap to envelop you in a tight embrace. Nonetheless, the creak of the floorboards giving way to the location of the lurking, mysterious figure of which had taken shelter toward the shadows in order to watch you, your tired gaze followed the sound and laid waste on the strong build of the homeowner, the believed-to-be-deceased, now 28-year-old child that had made the mansion in the middle fo the woods of the English Countryside a historic, “haunted” landmark.
Brahms, with his shoulders gently hunched and a thick sweater falling from the bunched fabric of his elbows and wrists, covering his suspenders and tightly-fitted shirted, walked toward where you lay with hesitant steps. You gave him a small smile of reassurance, mumbling, “it’s okay, Brahms.” And thus, giving further permission for him to approach.
Ever since your arrival, he had naturally followed you in the flow of your routine, submission bred in his bones and slightly milked due to your comfort in a controlled state. Now, as his knees fell to the carpeted floor and his chin bowed, he gazed upward at you and slowly inched his head to rest in your lap. A simple, yet meaningful act as his long, ropey arms wrapped themselves around the flesh of your waist, hugging your figure against him before his muscles relaxed. Comforting you was relaxing.
And just like that, your fingers finding their way into the depths of his thick-bundled chocolate-brown curls, or, rather, knots, you dozed off into a peaceful state of dreaming, watched over by the lonesome, greedy mentality of an immature, but loving, man.
