"Stand My Ground" by Customary (@customarymusic) feat. James Staley & Shaun B.
I gotta say, this joint thru me for a curve upon first listen...
The title is a clear flip of "Stand Your Ground" which invokes the SYG laws; yet lyrically it doesn't touch on SYG at all. And as a Black male exhausted of Stand Your Ground's use to justify pulling triggers on Black males who clearly didn't deserve to be shot, I expected this song to be some type of commentary on those issues. When it wasn't i almost took it as the audio equivalent of "click bait".
That said, it's a fun, positive song. The hook singer reminds me a little of Mali Music (who owes us a new album at some point soon... before 2020).
Just wish it was a little more socially conscious give its title.
