Ethel Ellington is pictured with Emory President James Wagner showing off her certificate awarded for 25 Years of Service at Emory. Ethel has been with chemistry for her entire Emory career. In 2013, she was named Emory University Employee of the Year for her work as Undergraduate Program Coordinator.

Professor Fred Menger poignantly describes Ethel’s impact on the department and his own career:

….  Perhaps the following statement will express how much I owe to Ethel for her … years of service: I sincerely believe that my very life would have been shortened by the stress had I been forced to handle all the student problems from which Ethel relieved me. She was a miracle worker, a person I could not have managed well without. Thank you, Ethel!  Thank you for always greeting me with a smile as I came running to you when a student needed an overload, or when there was a conflict with scheduling a classroom, or when I needed to have a course booklet printed. May the department continue to benefit from your cheery assistance for many years to come.....
