y'aalllllll I have been offered the chance to move up a grade with my students (never happened before!). This group of students is one that I especially dearly love, I would LOVE the chance to continue teaching them next year, but the grade above me is A) all new curriculum to me, which would be a heavy lift to learn 3 new courses as I teach them, B) was just modified by the curriculum committee so even the teachers who taught it previously won't necessarily have fully fleshed-out plans for each of the units, and C) the course that I have been redesigning for the 7th grade curriculum is alllmoooost finished but not quite ready to hand off. Major challenges in handing it off would include a) we're going to trial-run a new supplemental curriculum for that course this year, and since I'm the one who has redesigned and taught the class for the past 3 years I am also the best qualified to judge whether this curriculum meets the need I've been discussing with my department head and administrators, and b) since I was concussed for nearly half of the spring semester my written plans from this year are uhhhhhh. lacking. SO I'd have to do a bunch of work up front to get things written up for the next teacher that I would not have to do if I am that teacher. :'((((((( I am sooooo so so so so tempted to jump into the 8th grade anyway, but I don't actually think that is what would be best for the school or for me. ON THE OTHER HAND, I would genuinely enjoy learning the texts for the 8th grade curriculum, and this way whatever new teacher we hire for 7th grade would have someone who recently taught the course (me) on hand they could go to with curriculum questions and lean on for advice. I might not have that for the 8th grade curriculum, but designing course modules is (mostly) kinda fun for me, I think I would enjoy the challenge and I am experienced enough now that I think it would definitely be easier for me than when I started (and I can't guarantee the same would be true of a new hire). uhhghghhghgnghghghghghgh h e l p
