So, this past week I have worked in Turengin yhteiskoulu and lukio. It was a time of many ups and downs.
On Monday for example in the morning I taught math, though in English, which was okay, but I already wrote about me not really having the talent to teach math. Then I was in an English lesson, which I guess the teacher didnt know I was coming to, because they were doing a listening excercice for one hour straight. I got to participate, but reliving my own A-level experience isn´t something I really needed. Then I was in music class. To her absolute excuse the teacher had no clue who I was, but I assumed she knew, which was why I didn´t really have anything to do in that either. The upside was that I just fell in with a few of the students and animated them to speak English. Then we had a little birthday get-together in Satama, for both Kitta and me. The cake was fantastic and I got some great presents :)
On Tuesday in Art class I preped for the big “Kieli päivä”, language day, on Friday. Then there was another music lesson, which ended in the music teacher finally finding out/understanding, who I actually was :D She is very nice though and organizes “The Voice of Jallu” (?), a talent competition in the school, which she invited me too.
Then followed more preparation for Friday in German class, and a rather regular but fun English class.
On wednesday I was sick, and my best friend Polly arrived from Germany <3 Then, of course, Thursday was my 20th birthday. In the lessons we kept preping for the Kielipäivä, until in the last one I had Drama for the first time.
Now that was quite something. The Drama teacher is amazing at her job, Polly and I participated in two lessons in total and it was such fun and great opportunity to see a pro in action.
After school we went frisbee golfing, to find the course and see if it was fun - and it was!
We also had carrot cake, which is a bit of a tradition for me on birthdays-
On Friday it was Language day time! The teachers really put a lot of effort in it, there was a language café, a quiz and different areas where you “had to”/could speak and learn different languages. I talked to a few of the teenagers in German, so that was fun, and the day was a success.
My friends arrived the same day; I had invited them for my birthday party on saturday! The weekend was then of course filled with sunshine, good conversations, fun and good foods :) We played Frisbee-Golf and Activity and watched some of my all time favourite movies.
This week I am on holiday, which is lovely <3 Yesterday Polly and I just chilled, in anticipation for today, but she was already sick. Nevertheless we left for Turku this morning. The day was a bit of a complete disaster. Turku is nice enough and we went to the Maritime Forum and looked at different boats, it was nice. And we saw the castle from a distance.
Then Polly was feeling much worse though, so we decided to go to a doctor. Accidently we went to a private doctor of course (in Finland there are public and private ones), it was a huge mess and I had to speak a lot of Finnish, but in thanks to a great, really nice doctor, we got out of it and didn´t have to pay for anything. I am pretty proud of myself for speaking so much Finnish so fluently.
After that we decided to cut our trip dramatically short and just go back home today. It was definitely the right decision to make, so that Polly has time to rest and get better before we go to Helsinki on Thursday.
I´ll let you know how the rest of my holiday has been next week.
