1st october - what is your favourite thing about autumn?

i honestly don’t identify as someone who has a huge love for autumn, but i have to admit that the season brings along so many everyday pleasures :’)

i love fall spices & flavors: anything pumpkin (pie, pastries, bread, drinks/coffee) and apple cider donuts

there’s nothing like crisp autumn air after a warm, humid summer

when i lived in the northeast, it definitely was easier to really lean into the spirit of fall, especially since you could feel the seasons changing -- all the visual cues and fall activities were there. but here in southern california, it’s oct. 1 and 90 degrees 😅 i’m sure it’ll start to cool down and it’ll feel more autumnal before we even know it!

jan. 3 - savoring this life

i watched soul earlier this week and i was just floored by the themes weaved into the film. for me, it was a truly healing experience, especially since i had been in kind of a weird funk lately. for a while now, i’ve been trying to “romanticize my own life” and “exude main character energy,” and this movie gives a really compelling reason as to why appreciating the ordinary is worth it.

other life updates:

my family chipped in to gift me an ipad for christmas and it’s been so fun flexing my creativity in this new way!! having apps like procreate and goodnotes right at my fingertips takes away all the inertia that usually stops me from exploring visual forms of expression

my froggy stamps came in the mail... need i say more???? i don’t know how much i like frogs irl but i stan frog/toad representation -- i.e. naruto, animal crossing, and now, the usps

the youtube algorithm blessed me and recommended linh truong, and i have been shamelessly binging her videos this weekend!! she’s like 4 years younger than me but i aspire to be more like her. her aesthetic is ~immaculate~

i’m back to work tomorrow after this pretty lengthy winter break. i’m dreading it slightly (i still miss school) but i kind of just want to get it over with tbh!!

9/15 - life update 🍓

i recently moved out of my family’s home, and it’s been an amazing change of pace for me. i had really missed the quiet lifestyle of living with only one other person, and i’m so happy with this space and the neighborhood i’m in :’)

i have a view of a pomegranate tree right outside my window, and when the morning light filters in & i can see the thin branches swaying gently, somehow bearing the weight of all the fruit, it fills me with a great sense of peace and gratitude. like a sigh of relief.

my roommate and i are still very much in the process of furnishing the place, but the progress we’ve made so far is so promising!! i bought her a green accent chair as a birthday/housewarming gift, and we are both in love with it.

i have been cooking and reading a lot — both things i fell out of doing when i was living at home with my family. i recently finished little fires everywhere by celeste ng, which i just couldn’t put down. i would recommend it if you’re trying to get back into reading after not having picked up a book in a while!

as we enter a new season of fall, i’m hopeful. despite how nice it’s been being in this new apartment, i still have been struggling with some anxiety. but i’m trying to just take my time enjoying each day for what it is. 🧡

2nd october - do you have any autumn traditions? 🍎🍏

it would be a bit generous to call any of these traditions but in college/when i lived in new york, i went apple picking every fall! i also love the pumpkin cheesecake from trader joe’s and me and my roommate from then would always pick one up during fall & keep it in the freezer HAHA

3rd october - what is a good memory that you have from autumn?

i used to live right next to prospect park in brooklyn with one of my closest friends as my roommate. i look back on that time (fall 2019) and memories from then very fondly -- we would grab a few snacks from the corner bodega and then make our way to one of the many open, grassy fields. sometimes we’d bring a blanket and a speaker and our journals, and we’d spend time together, both deep in thought and in each other’s company. the pictures in this post are from one of our little picnics — october 2019 💓

4th october - is there anything special happening for you this autumn?

i have some travel planned! 😌 i booked two trips to portland, one in october and one in november -- it’s nothing out of the ordinary since i’ve already been several times now, but i’m still really excited :’) it also helps that the pnw has actual seasons lol. my boyfriend and i are planning on going to seattle during one of the times i’m there as well, and it’ll be my first time, so that’s gonna be super awesome 👍
