I got a new planner today! Time to get ready for lectures to start up again next week...
Right now, I'm in the process of moving – my room is coming together very slowly, but this corner looks nice at least!

jan. 3 - savoring this life
i watched soul earlier this week and i was just floored by the themes weaved into the film. for me, it was a truly healing experience, especially since i had been in kind of a weird funk lately. for a while now, i’ve been trying to “romanticize my own life” and “exude main character energy,” and this movie gives a really compelling reason as to why appreciating the ordinary is worth it.
other life updates:
my family chipped in to gift me an ipad for christmas and it’s been so fun flexing my creativity in this new way!! having apps like procreate and goodnotes right at my fingertips takes away all the inertia that usually stops me from exploring visual forms of expression
my froggy stamps came in the mail... need i say more???? i don’t know how much i like frogs irl but i stan frog/toad representation -- i.e. naruto, animal crossing, and now, the usps
the youtube algorithm blessed me and recommended linh truong, and i have been shamelessly binging her videos this weekend!! she’s like 4 years younger than me but i aspire to be more like her. her aesthetic is ~immaculate~
i’m back to work tomorrow after this pretty lengthy winter break. i’m dreading it slightly (i still miss school) but i kind of just want to get it over with tbh!!
Zoomester Studyblr Challenge Day 3:
I've never done a studyblr challenge before, because I've only recently created a studyblr.
I hope to create a consistent posting schedule, and this challenge gives me a goal and people to motivate me.
jan 05 2021 // i actually managed to find the motivation to work on my thesis this morning before going to work in the afternoon and i’m really proud of myself : )
tag meme: list 5-7 snippets of literature/media that live in your head rent-free to the point where you have them memorised; write them down from memory, no cheating allowed!
Thanks for tagging me @earlymodernstudent! I was so happy you tagged me because I thought this was a really cool tag meme!
1. Let me not to the marriage of true minds / Admit impediments. Love is not love / Which alters when it alteration finds / Or bends with the remover to remove. / O no! it is an ever-fixed mark / That looks on tempests and is never shaken / It is the star to every wand'ring bark/ Whose worth's unknown, although his height be taken. / Love's not Time's fool, though rosy lips and cheeks / Within his bending sickle's compass come / Love alters not with his brief hours and weeks / But bears it out even to the edge of doom. / If this be error and upon me prov'd / I never writ, nor no man ever lov'd.
-Sonnet 116, William Shakespeare (I studied this in highschool and fell in love. I think the line breaks? are right but not sure about the punctuation)
2. Some say the world will end in fire / Some say in ice./ From what I’ve tasted of desire/ I hold with those who favor fire. / But if it had to perish twice / I think I know enough of hate / To say that for destruction ice / Is also great / And would suffice.
-Fire and Ice, Robert Frost (For some reason I memorised this during study for my final highschool exams, probably bored out of my mind with all the other stuff I was memorising)
3. There was movement at the station, for the word had passed around / That the colt from old Regret had got away, / And had joined the wild bush horses - he was worth a thousand pound, / So all the cracks had gathered to the fray. / All the tried and noted riders from the stations near and far / Had mustered at the homestead overnight, / For the bushmen love hard riding where the wild bush horses are, / And the stock-horse snuffs the battle with delight.
-The Man From Snowy River, Banjo Paterson (I had to learn the whole poem when I was 12 for school, I still remember the first and last stanzas)
4. Look like the innocent flower, but be the serpent under’t.
-Macbeth, William Shakespeare (I fell in love with this play even before studying it in highschool as I once played a version of Lady Macbeth, and this is just one of the quotes that stood out to me)
5. Come, you spirits / That tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here, / And fill me from the crown to the toe top-full / Of direst cruelty! make thick my blood / Stop up the access and passage to remorse...
-Macbeth, William Shakespeare (another quote that stood out to me and I remember)
6. It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.
-Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen (how could I not remember the first sentence of one of the most famous books, and my own personal favourite???)
7. They were careless people, Tom and Daisy, they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness...
-The Great Gatsby, F Scott Fitzgerald (also studied at school and loved, this is one of the quotes that was important for my assessment and I still remember)
Thanks for this, it was fun! Of course most of these are for things I studied at school :)

my urge to organise my workload for the new semester vs. my lecturers' understandable need for more time to finish their syllabus: fight
Over a month ago, I submitted my final thesis for my English degree, and the exams for my teaching degree are also over now, so I have a whole week of no academic work ahead of me before classes start up again!
