Syscourse can't be "saved", because it is identity discourse. By definition, 70% of it is "ahckshually, you're fake and evil for existing/experiencing something I don't understand" and 29% of it is constant petty sniping at each other for the slightest missteps. These are not qualities that can be redeemed.
It is both hilarious and appalling that there is a subset of people on the Internet who think that fiction writers will corrupt the youth and make the domestic violence rates spike if they write too much about people and events that aren't morally perfect.
I can't stand doctors. I went to a new one today, and now all of a sudden it says I'm a smoker in my chart and I can't fix it. I've never touched a cigarette in my life and I told him this quite explicitly. Literally how did this mistake happen?
I'm done arguing with hardcore anti-endos. I got cornered by a group of them for an hour (rookie mistake), and all I can say is that I'm never getting that hour back. Nothing I say can get through to them. They don't read any source I give them and then they claim I haven't given them any sources. They won't listen to any explanation I give that takes longer than one paragraph to detail. They have zero evidence and they will pull shit directly out of their ass to obfuscate the fact that they have zero evidence. They twist every word that comes out of my mouth into a hideous caricature of what I said. They contradict themselves every two sentences. They lie (constantly). They call me schoolyard-tier names and slurs, or they misgender me. I almost said "it's like talking to a brick wall", but it's worse than that-- it reminds me of talking to my Trump-supporting, Fox-News-addicted family members. These people don't want to potentially learn something new about the world. They just want the icky yucky uncomfy person they don't understand to go away (or to embarrass themselves), and they will say literally anything to achieve that goal. That's why they argue like that.
How am I supposed to pretend that these people have a serious intellectual position when it is obvious that they did not use evidence or reasoning to reach their conclusion? How am I supposed to pretend that these people have a reasonable difference of opinion, when said difference of opinion is them saying to my face that I'm not a person in spite of all evidence to the contrary? How am I supposed to pretend that any argument I have with them is an honest battle in the "marketplace of ideas", when, in reality, their primary interest is in winding me up and/or making me hurt? And, for that matter, why am I expected to maintain flawless decorum while they sling the worst insults they can think of at me and tell me that I'm not a person (I need to once again reiterate that these people quite literally believe I am not a person), but I'm the one in the wrong if I dare stand up for myself? The comparison with Trump supporters grows more apt by the day. Both of these groups of people, as different as they are (don't fucking take me out of context on this), care more about civility than kindness. To them, bigotry phrased politely is OK, but an aggressive assertion of one's right to be treated like everybody else is mean and rude and therefore not OK. Sometimes I wonder if these groups even know the difference between these two things.
More than anything else, it's degrading. I'm not going to beg for scraps from people who use misinformation passed down through 17 layers of TikTok telephone as an excuse to abuse people they refuse to understand or respect. When it comes down to it, no matter who wins or loses the argument, I will walk away just as multiple as I was before, and chances are they will remain as adamantly anti-endo as they were before. Maybe I'll put a crack or two in their belief system, but going head-to-head with them over the Internet isn't the best way to break that mental wall, and for some people, these kinds of debates are much more likely to strengthen their pre-existing beliefs, not dent them. So I might as well treat myself with some self-respect and find better uses of my time.
It's really immensely incredibly fucked up that climate change is only 17th of 21 items on the list of major issues Americans think the government should prioritise (source).
We need to put the word "bootlicker" up on a high shelf until people figure out what it means again. I just saw someone call someone else a "bootlicker" because they complimented the newest update to the video game Stellaris. Because apparently the wielder of the boot of oppression is Paradox Interactive, a video game studio. This is what I get for expecting political literacy out of Paradox Interactive fans.
It's really unsettling how many bots there are on Reddit pretending to be human beings. If you go to any reasonably large subreddit (but especially political ones), you will find at least one in every single comment section without fail. And if you didn't know what to look for, you'd have little reason to doubt that it was written by a human. It's scary shit. These bots have gotten very good.
