This Is My Story
by Niño Japano
You might be wondering what this is. But, to tell you honestly this is an exciting story of my life. You might probably think if this is going to be boring as other stories, but mine is definitely not. It is a story composed of a million climax and each of those is a story that you probably might not heard or encountered before.
This is my story.
I can truly say that my life is not the same as others, probably 70% of people my age. There life probably began with their mother and father however, mine did not start that way. But rather it started with just my mother and her family. I was born without knowing any father. I grew up as a kid learning to say “nalumos sa sabaw” “drowned in broth” whenever someone asks me about where my father is. It can be considered to be a struggle for me as a child learning the concept of a family since, I myself did not get to experience it. Seeing other children hug their fathers is melancholic to see but, thanks to my mother and my family, because, I grew up as an adult without any jealousy and envy.
During my elementary days, I am sent to school by my grandmother and it was then when I learned how to skip classes. Before, I used to climb up on the school’s fence to go out of the school’s premise and play with my friends and classmates near the river. I can still vividly remember how we were warned by the principal to not let us proceed to high school due to our behavior in school. But thankfully, I graduated.
In my high school years, I started to be self-conscious and I became too shy to face people. It was because, I feel ashamed of being in the school canteen helping my aunt sell “maruya” “bananaque”. Prior to going to my 7am class, I had to peel bananas and other vegetable so I could get a free lunch from the canteen. When I reached my 8th grade, I learned to gain pieces of confidence and so I tried to run for a position in the student council, but unfortunately, I failed and it even help it to flunked my confidence even more. A teacher came to me and made me realize that no one wins the true fight of life without losing first. With that, I tried to run for the same position and luckily, I won. Since then, I became a consistent part of the student council until senior high school. Apart from being part of the student council, I also brought pride for my school as I join several interschool competitions. Some of which, are the Division School Press Conference which I won as the 1st placer beating the great school in the whole Davao City and also the 21st century Wizards, which I became the 1st placer for 2 consecutive years. My high school life was truly unimaginable, I cannot believe how it my bland journey turned in to a very colorful one. As a part way with my school and my beloved teachers, they gave me an advice to continue to reach on my goals and to embark the journey which my heart longs to go.
As I begin my college years, I am astonished with what God has given me. I knew I am beyond blessed by him as I open the message of my Tito asking me if I am willing to study in China. I immediately responded to his message and expressed my desire to study abroad. However, if something is meant for you, it has to went through, but that chance did not. Despite my full willingness to study abroad my family and friends told me to stay in the Philippines, because as they say, I can still reach my goal without going miles away from my loved ones, but they failed to realize that, my dream is to become a doctor. But, all along, I was wrong because a goal and a dream are two different things, dreams and goals may appear to be impractical but a goal is a necessity. It has to be achieved and it has to be attained. With that, I decided to stay in the country and applied in University of Southeastern Philippines. Luckily, I got accepted and landed on Bachelor of Secondary Education major in English which is my second choice in terms of my dream courses. Unfortunately, as I continue my studies, I had to look for a job to sustain my educational and personal needs. I had to work on a graveyard shift to earn and I had to take a jeepney ride 2 hours before my working ours to ensure that I would not be late. Currently, I am on my third year in college and hoping and praying that God may continue to lead me through my journey and guide me towards my path to success.
My story is yet to end, so be sure to tune in
