when they start dating, alana wants to keep it a secret at first (it’s kind of embarrassing! he’s her first boyfriend! and it’s jared klienman!)
alana is also jared’s first girlfriend and he’s nervous because insults are his defense mechanism to distance himself but suddenly he doesn’t wanna do that anymore?? he actually... wants to get close to her?
he starts volunteering to go to beach cleanups and hand out blankets to the homeless with her
everyone starts to notice alana smiling more and starting to engage more and connect with others beyond “acquaintance” level, and.. is jared being nice??
think a very chidi and eleanor relationship from the good place
they’re both super smart and study together - jared keeps it light and fun and initiates breaks, and alana keeps them focused
they’re both really nervous so they take things slow! ditch homecoming to watch a movie at home - they awkwardly start on opposite ends of the couch and end up really close, but not quite cuddling (this takes another month or so, but after that the floodgates are opened and the two touch-starved nerds can’t keep their hands off each other)
