Premier League: Bowen, Zouma Combine To Secure Point Against Tottenham
West Ham United: Jarrod Bowen’s sensational season continued as his assist for Kurt Zouma helped West Ham United secure a 1-1 Premier League draw with Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday evening at London Stadium. With a draw, Tottenham missed the chance to move level with Aston Villa in the top-four race. Spurs remain fifth with 57 points. West Ham, who are winless in their last four matches, stay seventh on 45 points. Brennan Johnson fired Spurs in front on five minutes, but Zouma’s equaliser soon after ultimately proved enough to earn the Hammers a point. Pedro Porro and Son Heung-min went close to doubling Spurs’ lead, but the visitors were pegged back in the 19th minute as Jarrod Bowen’s corner went in off Zouma's back as he attempted a header, Premier League reports. West Ham began the second half strongly as they looked to complete the turnaround, with Guglielmo Vicario producing reflex saves to deny Michail Antonio and Konstantinos Mavropanos. Michail Antonio then squandered a marvellous opportunity on the hour. Having outmuscled Micky van de Ven to latch onto a long ball, the Jamaica international fired straight at Vicario. Lukasz Fabianski was grateful to see Destiny Udogie’s strike in the fourth minute of stoppage time sail into his grasp in an end-to-end finale, as both sides had to settle for a point. West Ham United fans have hailed Jarrod Bowen after his superb full debut against Southampton on Saturday. The Hammers won 3-1 at the London Stadium to climb out of the relegation zone ahead of the remainder of the weekend’s Premier League fixtures. DID HE REALLY PLAY FOR US?! NO WEST HAM FAN HAS MANAGED TO NAME ALL OF THESE OBSCURE IRONS SIGNINGS…. Bowen, signed in January from Hull City, was a key proponent of David Moyes’ side victory, scoring his side’s opening goal in the 15th minute. Having been played through by attacking midfielder Pablo Fornals, he took a touch and lifted the ball over Saints goalkeeper Alex McCarthy. Bowen had previously only played 16 minutes for the club, coming on as a substitute against both Manchester City and Liverpool. But supporters loved his performance against Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men. Bowen was brilliant and improved us so much today. If we keep them all, Bowen Rice Fornals Ngakia is a great start for the next generation of West Ham for years to come. With Grady and Holland coming through too and perhaps Xande it could be good signs for the future 🤞🏻#StayingUp — Talk Of West Ham (@TalkOfWestHam) February 29, 2020 Big win! 3 good goals,3 precious points and Bowen looks a player! Great full debut son. Look forward to seeing more off you — Spencer Robinson (@Spangle1972) February 29, 2020 Bowen arrow 🎯 — Tony F ⚪️🛠 (@TonyWHU147) February 29, 2020 Start every game pls — konti ⚒️ (@rontsz) February 29, 2020 Class son.. absolute class!! 💪⚒⚒⚒ — MaxWHUSHRINENosworthy (@MaxNosworthy) February 29, 2020 Indeed, this was a display that suggests that Bowen can only get better. Per WhoScored, he had four shots on goal throughout the game, registered one key pass, three dribbles as well as four tackles. In addition to that, Bowen also made one interception and one clearance. Signed for a fee of £20m from Hull in the most recent transfer window, he has given a glimpse into just how good he could be for Moyes’ men. Indeed, prior to the move, he scored 16 goals in 29 Championship outings for Hull and now has one in one start for the Hammers. If he can keep this up, one has to imagine that the Irons have a very realistic chance of remaining in the Premier League. Meanwhile, West Ham fans have hailed this youngster! #WestHam #WestHamUnited #JarrodBowen
On Tuesday afternoon, West Ham United’s official Twitter account posted ’52 goals in 115 league appearances’ before tagging the club’s new signing Jarrod Bowen. A profile piece on the attacker was then provided by the club’s official website. Bowen arrived from Hull City on transfer deadline day, with the 23-year-old signing a five-and-a-half-year contract at the London Stadium. In theory, it should have been a fairly safe post from the club’s Twitter account, but the West Ham supporters were hardly thrilled judging by their responses. Indeed, some claimed that there will immediately be huge pressure on the Englishman to lift a team that currently sit inside the relegation zone in the Premier League table. No pressure lad, just save us from relegation — Mark Lighterness ⚒ (@MrMarkyWHU) February 4, 2020 If he can score 52 goals from now till the end of the season I reckon we can stay up lads. — Samzini⚒ (@Samzini_) February 4, 2020 Good luck, you will need it .. — tony burt (@burts00) February 4, 2020 you’ll need to score another 52 to save us — ga fo (@gazatthebop) February 4, 2020 Does he do miracles? — Martyn Yeldham (@martyny1970) February 4, 2020 West Ham have not won in the Premier League since New Year’s Day and threw away a 3-1 lead against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday to draw 3-3. CALL YOURSELF A WEST HAM EXPERT? HOW MUCH DID EACH OF THESE JANUARY SIGNINGS COST? Some of the London club’s fans have claimed Bowen will not be able to prevent the team from dropping into the second tier come the end of the season. He will be playing back in the championship next year anyway — Christopher Mears (@CJMears85) February 4, 2020 Bet he can’t wait to get back to it in the Championship next season — GK (@Tekkerman) February 4, 2020 Meanwhile, others have suggested that the former Hull forward will struggle to make his mark during the remainder of the 2019/20 campaign. Bowen has arrived at the club in good form, though, having netted 16 Championship goals during the current season. Will score 1 in 14 for us — kane (@kaane_g) February 4, 2020 No service = no goals — Hammerhead (@452a2d8d005b405) February 4, 2020 Meanwhile, one West Ham player is allegedly moving closer to the exit door at the London Stadium. #WestHam #JarrodBowen #WestHamFans
It may have dragged out over almost the entirety of transfer deadline day, but West Ham finally got their deal for Jarrod Bowen over the line. In the end, the 23-year-old signed a five-and-a-half year deal with the Hammers, with Hull to receive £22m for their star player. He will no doubt be a huge loss to the Tigers – in 131 appearances, he managed 54 goals, including 16 this season alone in the Championship. IS LIFE UNDER GOLD AND SULLIVAN REALLY THAT BAD? MAYBE THIS QUIZ WILL CHANGE YOUR MINDS, WEST HAM FANS… Now, of course, the question is how he slots in to David Moyes’ side. Bowen can play in a number of positions across the forward line, but has shown particularly impressive signs on the right-hand side – that’s where he has played most of his games so far this term in a 4-2-3-1 formation. The winger has notched 11 times and provided a further three assists in the 23 matches he has been deployed there for Hull. That is a set-up that Moyes has used just once since he arrived at the London Stadium, and it brought him his only league win to date as well. In that 4-0 victory against Bournemouth, £19.8m-valued Pablo Fornals – as per Transfermarkt – lined up on the left side of the three behind the striker, whilst Felipe Anderson featured in the central attacking midfield position. The former Lazio man has had a good time of it in that role this term. In five matches, he has picked up an average WhoScored rating of 7.28, and it is there that he has scored his only goal. The 26-year-old is clearly a talented player, but at left midfield, he has at times struggled to be as effective as in the middle – he has just 2.4 dribbles on the left compared to four per match in the number 10 position. In trying to get the best out of Bowen, his most expensive signing during this January transfer window, Moyes could stumble across a system that may also give £40.5m-valued Anderson and Fornals the best possible platform to produce. His sole victory has come with a system that Bowen clearly knows well, and his number eight could have an extra edge in a different position. West Ham have struggled for goals this term – only six sides in the top flight have less than their 30 – and this switch-up could give them the edge they need. Meanwhile, West Ham failed in a bid for this defender on transfer deadline day. #WestHam #JarrodBowen #PabloFornals
