The Bourne Ultimatum is the best of the Threequels

This summer has been dominated by the 3rd movies in different franchises (Shrek, Spiderman, Pirates). And [tag]The Bourne Ultimatum[/tag] is the very best of all of them. Even on its own it is a great thrill ride. The action is non-stop, right from the opening scene, and keeps you hooked till the very end. People in the theater were clapping at certain moments in the movie. [tag]Matt Damon[/tag] continues to be perfect as [tag]Jason Bourne[/tag], having completely made the beloved character his own. The story actually goes back to elements in the first book rather than the third book, though like [tag]The Bourne Identity[/tag] it only uses the basic elements and completely reworks the plot along different lines. But it works. You don't question the motivation of any of the characters, and things are revealed that close the loop on ideas introduced in the previous movies. The trademark car chases are great, though it would seem that the need to be bigger and better pushed them a little over the line. Bourne emerging unscathed and functioning from some of the horrific crashes he is involved in is a little hard to believe, even for the super spy. But the fast pace leaves you no time to dwell on the absurdity of it, as you are immediately pushed into the next situation. And unlike the other threequels, it is not drawn out too long. On the whole, the movie was just what I wanted, intelligent, action-packed and superbly entertaining. [tags]Movies, Movie Review[/tags]
