#JasonKenny beats #CallumSkinner to Olympic cycling sprint gold Jason Kenny has joined Sir Steve Redgrave and Sir Bradley Wiggins as a five-time Olympic champion after beating fellow Briton Callum Skinner in the final of the men's sprint on Sunday. Kenny comfortably defeated his room-mate 2-0 to retain the title he won at London 2012 and close to within one of Sir Chris Hoy's all-time British record of six Olympic gold medals. He has the chance to pull level with Hoy in the keirin on Tuesday and will be favourite to do so, given the untouchable form he has shown so far at Rio 2016. Skinner, meanwhile, now has one gold and one silver from his debut Games, having triumphed in the team sprint alongside Kenny and Philip Hindes on Thursday. Kenny told BBC Sport: "It is special, really special. I'm really grateful. Everyone works so hard for us. When we win it feels like the team is winning and we have everyone behind us, pushing us." Skinner added: "The whole journey has been incredible. I got beaten by the world champion and he had the tactics and the legs. The main focus has been the team sprint, so to come away with anything else was a bonus." Kenny and Skinner's medals mean Britain have now won four golds and two silvers on the track so far at Rio 2016. That tally could be improved in the women's sprint, where Becky James and Katy Marchant are on course to replicate Kenny and Skinner's success in the event after breezing through the early rounds. James qualified fastest in an Olympic-record time of 10.721 seconds and Marchant was second quickest, and the pair then made light work of their opponents in the first round to book places in Monday's last 16.
