How do you feel about Wicked: For Good having used generative AI in the backgrounds of their posters?

I was not aware of this, so I did some brief reading.

My stance is that I don’t think there’s enough evidence to support the allegations. To me it just looks like photoshop. If they did use AI I’m pretty neutral to slightly negative about it.

My stance on AI art in general is that right now there is too small a sample size for it to be pulling from for it to be a good idea right now in many cases. I think in the future it will be a better tool for making art and will involve less “stealing” of art from others because the sample size of art will be to large. How big that sample size has to be I don’t know because I am an artist not a mathematician or computer wiz.

I also think that right people view AI generated art the same way a lot of people used to view digital art (my main medium!). As a lame short cut, or that digital artist don’t put in the work for technique like traditional artists. Eventually that feeling about digital artists faded out, and it will eventually fade for AI generated art too.

Over all if Wicked For Good used AI, which I doubt, then I view that as a slight negative but I don’t care enough to be upset about. It’s still going to be a fantastic movie and in the end all I’m here for is to see my girls and my scarecrow on the big screen.
