This is my attempt to start actively posting on multiple platforms again, instead of sticking just to my Toyhouse. And welcome back to me rambling!

This piece features my TOH sona, Rex Heartstone! And one of his favorite things, crystals!

For those who might have realized it, this is based on the current Art Fight theme. Honestly, I wasn’t excited about the theme this year when it was first revealed, but I remembered that Rex would be bouncing up and down about it, which made me look at the theme differently and feel motivated for Art Fight this year!

Hand painted movie posters became popular in Ghana in the early 80's. It was during the time of the rise of the cinema culture in Ghana. Artists who were mostly painting on walls for automobile companies, bars, pubs, hospitals and schools on commission basis started painting exaggerated/ hyper-realistic images on flour sacks. These paintings were images from films that were showing in these cinemas. Some of these images were suggested by the owners of the cinemas, and the artists sometimes painted what they imagined scenes in the film to look like. A process painter @dajasperart has themed "imagination painting." The cinema culture grew and became popular, and the movie posters are believed to part of the factors that contributed to the rise. As time went by the cinema hype began to die down, but the painters were still painting the movie posters. Art dealers, galleries and collectors around the world started collecting these paintings. The paintings were shown in galleries and museums around the world. According to Mr. Frimpong, a lecturer at @ashesi university in Ghana says although the paintings became popular, people (collectors, art dealers & galleries) outside of Ghana didn't know the physical appearance of the artists behind these paintings. They were always exhibited in the absence of the artists. It is in view of this that @snydr and @thestudioaccra put up an exhibition & art Talk for @dajasperart last Saturday. Jasper is one of the early painters of these movie posters, and has lived through the evolution of this art form.
