Today was one of the hardest. I had to say goodbye to my best friend. We had a wonderful 16 years together. I was so lucky to have you and your unconditional love. #jasperisbae Over the course of the last year Jasper lost so much weight, stopped eating hard cat food, and by the end he had practically given up. I believe he kept fighting for me because he knew how much I needed him. He was by my side through the best times and through my rock bottoms. Even in the last few days he was with me every second he could be. I love you, bby. I know it was the right thing to do. You're no longer in pain and that puts my mind, and heart, at ease. I'm going to miss you waiting outside the bathroom door for me and meowing at me when I get home from work. I'll miss the snuggles and having you at my feet while I cook. I'm even going to miss you pawing at me to wake up every morning. Rest easy, my bby, my Jasper. ❤️💜

I figured that with all he had been through, Jasper the Lonely Chopstick could benefit from some therapy. There were certainly stages of grief that he needed to work out. Of course, he didn't want to be alone so he asked me to sit with him in the therapy session. He attempted to deny that his partner had been taken from him. Then expressed anger at having been left alone. He bargained that perhaps a human, maybe even myself, could provide him the companionship he needed. He cried realizing that his one true mate would never return to him. But he eventually came to accept that he would have to move on and forge a life and identity of his own. Not bad for an hour's work.
