Day 26 of #28daysofblackcosplay is Belle from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. This cosplay is very neat and dear to me. I don’t 100% know what possessed me to want to make Belle as my first Disney Princess cosplay but I thiiiiiiiiiiink it was my doll collection. You see, I collect ALL the Disney Store Limited Edition 17 inch Princess Dolls. Only in their most iconic dresses. And I have to admit when I saw their attempt at Belle I was highly disappointed. So I challenged myself to make a better interpretation of her ball gown. I was highly inspired by not just the animated movie but unused rough draft art, 17th century French rococo fashion and the Beauty and the Beast musical. I started work on her in March of 2020, thinking I would have her ready in time for wonder con and well…you know how that year went. it’s now two years later and the gown is nearly finished, save for some minor touches I need to add to it. But I’d be a mess if I didn’t talk about how proud I am of this gown and the money, time and love invested in it. This cosplay is one I haven’t worn yet as I have a specific goal in mind for when I do it. Hopefully she’ll be ready in time for this years D23! Cosplay made by me! As a Black cosplayer, I’ve long since realized that black cosplayers in the community don’t get their just dues and appreciation for the work they do. We are always called “variants” or “(insert character name) if they were black”. I think it’s time we break that negative stigma and show appreciation for cosplayers of color. Day 27 out tomorrow! #nilissues #blackcosplayer #disney #disneycosplay #beautyandthebeast #belle #bellecosplay #taleasoldastime #d23 https://www.instagram.com/p/Cac4Z3bPwzs/?utm_medium=tumblr
