Lauren walked through the door and closed it behind her, she faced the door and she kept her hand on the handle. When she turned around Jaime was looking at her with a quizzical look to which Lauren replied with a shrug and a tilt of the head. She walked to her room and lay on her bed, she instantly regretted what she had just done, however, it had to be done, and she didn’t like Luke anymore. After reflecting on how she had done it and what his reaction was... she got some sleep.
Lauren woke up early and checked her alarm clock it read ‘6:30’ exactly, because she had StarKid rehearsals at half seven she got out of bed and got changed in a comfy, rehearsal outfit, then went into the kitchen where Jaime was already making breakfast.
“Hey Lauren, you sleep well?”Jaime asked while pouring herself a bowl of corn flakes.
“Yes thanks, you all ready for rehearsals today?” Lauren said in reply while poring herself the same cereal.
“Yeah, I think I heard Nick say that we’re practicing from the beginning of the play to just after the Mosquito brothers chase February off the stage.” Jaime said while giving Lauren a little annoying smile “which means that you have to talk to Joey but as Bugette” she continued with the same annoying smile, Jaime knew what her feelings were towards Joey because they were best friends, practically sisters. Lauren play punched her in the arm. Once they had had their breakfast, they went to rehearsals.
As soon as they walked through the door Brian walked up to them and instantly noticed that Lauren was down, however, Lauren wasn’t paying much attention she was too busy looking around the room for Joey. Then she spotted him. The other side of the room, looking at the props that they needed for the part that Jaime said that they were rehearsing.
“Earth to Lo Lo?” Brian said as he waved his hand in her face.
“Huh... What?” Lauren said as she finally looked away from Joey but looked at Brian instead.
“I was just asking where Luke is. He’s usually here with you?” He asked with curiosity.
“Well... Er... I dumped him yesterday, so er... He won’t be coming here anymore.” She said awkwardly.
“Oh, okay.” Brain said and patted her on the arm in a friendly, comforting way.
“OKAY, PLACES EVERYONE!” Shouted Matt, they all ran to their places, the only person onstage was Joey and Lauren felt like she had been given permission to look at him without anyone thinking it was weird. The huge TV screen above Joey head turned on and it played the intro which included Chris Allen, Devin Lytle, Tyler Brunsmen, Richard Campbell, AJ Holmes and other StarKid actors, this was all recorded previously. Then when the volume had muted and ‘I Wanna Be’ begun, Joey started singing in the voice that made Lauren go weak at the knees, so she sat down on a seat that was just behind her, to avoid awkwardness with any of the StarKid actors that were around her. Once Joey had sung the beginning of the song Lauren forgot where she was and her eyes just seemed to follow Joey around the stage but not hearing a word of what anyone was saying, she just stared at him with hopeless longing and she knew she shouldn’t because she just broke up with Luke. Lauren was sat there singing along and she thought to herself that she loved the Harry Potter reference in the song. As soon as Brant entered the stage, Matt shouted.
“CUT!” Nick and Matt both walked over to where Brant stood and gave him different ideas on how to enter, after several attempts, Joey walked over to Brian and Jaime and spoke to them for a while, then Jaime pointed at Lauren which she pulled a quizzical look at then when Joey turned around she looked down at the floor still sat on the seat. Next thing Joey was sat on the seat next to her.
“Hey” he said softly with a smile that was impossible not to love especially with that crocked jaw of his.
“Hey, how long have they been doing this little part?” Lauren asked trying not to go all crazy and scare him.
“Oh I don’t know, a long time” He said still with the smile and Lauren laughed. “Oh and by the way, I’m sorry for what happened” He said which caused Lauren to look at him with a confused look on her face. “About the break up between you and Luke” he filled in for her.
“Oh yeah that. Who told you?” However she didn’t need telling, she already knew who it was because there was only 2 people who already knew and he had spoken to them previously
“Brian and Jaime” He said simply.
“Yeah, they’re right gossips” she said and quickly added “Don’t tell them I said that will you?” Joey simply laughed; Matt called Joey back on stage.
“Of course not” Joey said as he went and took his place leaving Lauren smiling to herself. When Joey was in the right position, they continued. Joey always gave his best effort into every production and he made it look easy, this always made Lauren feel very insecure about performing because she felt that her best efforts weren’t nearly as good as Joey’s and she felt disappointed with herself. All of a sudden Nick came running over to Lauren while carrying Bugette; Lauren had forgotten all about her and took the Bugette puppet out of Nick’s arms and saying thank you.
Lauren moved on stage with the puppet and when she saw Joey with the Bug puppet she instantly though ‘Talk to the Puppet NOT Joey’ and so she did.
“Hey Bug.” she said while looking into the puppets eyes in her Bugette voice.
“Oh. Hey Bugette.” said Joey, to which Brant did his exit line which caused Joey, to ‘have a go’ at him.
“So, I just wanted to wish you luck today, I bet you’re gonna get a really great job from the Overqueen” and Lauren continued with her lines and Joey responded, the back of her head wished that she would not mess them up. When Lauren Laughed as Bugette, she saw Jaime on the side sniggering to herself. Then they continued the scene and when Joey said that maybe she’ll find someone to which she replied with the scripted “Maybe I already have” she wasn’t talking to Bug anymore, she was talking to Joey, and Joey had a look of awkwardness in his eyes. In Laurens opinion when they got to have a scene together they lasted for a very long time and she half dreaded them and half enjoyed them because she was doing what she loved, acting, hiding her true emotions with a mask. The only part of this scene that Lauren dreaded was when Joey shot her down, and even though he was talking though Bug and it was all scripted, she still felt upset, and with that scene finally over she walked off stage the other side and Matt again called cut, he and Nick both walked up to her and called over Joey.
“You guys that scene was great, but Lo” Matt said and looked at Lauren who was looking down at the floor “Can you look at Joey when you’re talking to him please?” Lauren nodded she couldn’t speak because her mouth had gone dry; the fact that she had to look at Joey made her feel sick and really awkward.
“Yeah Lo, Look at me” Joey said and Lauren lifted her head and looked at Joey who was pulling a silly face to which she laughed at.
“Now that’s better” Nick said “SORRY EVERYONE, BACK INTO PLACES” he shouted over all the noise.
After Bug and Roach’s encounter with the Mosquito brothers it was time for Julia to announce the beginning of the ceremony, Lauren walked back on stage from the side that she left and did the choreography that Denise choreographed for them and sung along when she needed too. As soon as Nick introduced the Overqueen, they all turned and faced the direction that Jim usually came out but instead the prop that they were gonna use in the show came out, no one had seen it before so they all looked at it with interest until Brant said his line. They continued on with the scene Lauren only half listening which she knew wasn’t the best idea but she wasn’t centre of attention like the last time she was on stage and most people who watched it would be too interested in what Joey and Jim were saying not what she was doing, after Nick had spotted the spaceship she walked off the stage Matt shouted.
“We’re having a break for lunch” Lauren and Jaime walked over to where they had put their bags and took out their lunches and sat on the floor. After a few minutes Brian, Meredith and Joey joined them.
“Hey guys” Meredith said with a smile as she sat on the floor next to Brian and held his hand.
“Hey” Lauren and Jaime said at the same time. Lauren felt awkward because Joey had sat right next to her, suddenly her phone went off and she rummaged in her bag for a while till she found it, she looked at the screen.
“Ugh” she said and put it on the floor next to her.
“What was it?” Jaime asked curiously.
“It was a text from Luke, I’ve had 10 texts from him and I’ve missed 7 phone calls” She said bluntly. Meredith looked confused.
“But he’s your boyfriend you have to reply!” she said eagerly. Lauren felt really awkward now and fidgeted where she sat and looked at Jaime to answer for her. Meredith’s eyes followed Lauren’s.
“Well she broke up with him yesterday Mere” Jaime said and Meredith looked shocked.
“Oh, Why Lo?” she said and looked back at Lauren.
“Yeah, Why?” said Brian who had a little smile on his face.
“I... I’d rather not say” Lauren said and picked up her water bottle and her phone and stood up, she had four pairs of eyes staring at her. “I need some fresh air.” And she started towards the door.
“Hey, I’ll come with you” Joey said and he started to get up. She turned around.
“No! It’s fine Joey, really” and she opened the door and walked out leaving them staring.
As she walked Lauren knew that Jaime knew why she had broken up with Luke, but she was the kind of friend who wouldn’t tell secrets that big. She also knew that Brian knew and he wanted her to tell why, that’s what the little smile was for she thought, but she couldn’t have, not in front of the reason that would only make things awkward between them. All of a sudden her phone started ringing, she looked down at the screen expecting to see Luke’s name but instead it was Joey’s. She answered without a seconds thought.
“Hello” Lauren said.
“Hey, where are you?” He asked and she could here Matt shouting in the background.
“I’m on a walk, why?” She asked.
“Well, we’re gonna start again from where we left off and sure we can start without you, but Matt thinks we need you and he’s getting fidgety” He finished and she could hear Matt in the background.
“I NEVER SAID THAT JOEY AND I AM NOT!” Joey just laughed.
“Okay, I’ll be there as fast as I can, continue without me for now”
“Okay, Cya in a bit Lo” He said.
“Yeah, bye Joey” and she hung up.
When Lauren finally got back Denise had just scanned the air to check if it was breathable. When she walked in Matt gave her a stern face but Joey gave her a hug and she ran to the other side of the stage and picked up the prop that she needed and was ready to enter.
“Alright noise” Denise started “on behalf of the Galactic League of Extraterrestrial Exploration I demand you to show yourself” to which Lauren jumped on stage with the prop.
“Pika Pi” she said and couched on the floor to which Denise screamed and exclaimed that the prop was the cutest thing she had ever seen and continued with her mission log. Lauren actually paid attention to what Denise was saying because Joey wasn’t in the scene to distract her. As soon as Denise had ran off the stage and the mosquito brothers had ran after her Matt again shouted.
“CUT” he walked over to Denise but passed Lauren and said “Lauren, not too pleased that you just walked off and didn’t tell anyone where you were going”
“I’m sorry Matt, I just needed to clear my head” she apologised.
“Okay, go and try on your Taz wig” he said and continued to walk towards where Denise was. Lauren walked to the room where June did the costumes.
“I’ve been sent to try in my Taz wig, June” Lauren said with a smile.
“Okay, well they found you in the end then” she said as she turned around to get the Taz wig, Lauren just laughed. After she had had it put on she walked out the room and Matt had called everyone round to sit on the floor.
“Okay guys great rehearsal today, same time tomorrow we will be working from where we left off” he said to everyone, then looked at Lauren as he said “and no wondering off without telling anyone where you’re going” at this point everyone in the room was looking at her.
When Jaime and Lauren got home to their apartment Lauren went straight to her room and sat on her bed with her laptop, looking at all the tweets that she had received that day, so many lovely tweets from fans. She admired them all. Suddenly there was a knock at her door.
“Hey Lauren?” Jaime said quietly.
“Yeah?” She replied.
“Are you coming out for tea?” She asked still in the quiet voice.
“Yeah, hold on a sec” she closed her laptop down and put it back on her desk, she changed her top and her trousers and left her room, when she walked into the kitchen with the adjoining living room she had a surprise. Jaime, Joey, Brian, Meredith, Dylan and Joe were all sat on their sofa.
“Hey Lo” They all said at the same time which made her jump.
“Oh my god, what are you guys doing here?” she asked possibly a bit too meanly.
“Well Jaime invited us” Joe said with a smile and Lauren looked at Jaime with raised eyebrows.
“Yeah, I felt that you could do with some cheering up” she said with a half smile and Lauren sat in between Brian and Joey.
“So...” Brian started “We all know you broke up with Luke but no one knows why, although Jaime does, but she won’t tell us, so Lo... tell” he said chuckling, Lauren hit Brian in the face with the cushion that was behind her.
“HEY!” he said and hit her back, to which Lauren responded with throwing the cushion into Brian’s stomach. “LO!” he laughed and tried to attack her back, and succeeded, Joey held her back, she maybe small but she sure is powerful and strong. She remained in Joey’s embrace while trying to kick Brian for a few minutes and all the other people in the room were laughing, not Joey though he seemed to be struggling with Lauren in his arms. After the few minutes of struggling Lauren gave up and just sat on Joey’s lap. Jaime raised her eyebrows at this, to which Lauren stuck her tongue out at her.
“Hey guys, I wanna show you something” Jaime said but when Lauren started to get off Joey’s lap Jaime stopped her “No, Lauren, Joey, you stay here” she said with a smile and Joey pulled her back into his lap to which she squealed at.
“Okay” Joey began once they had all left the room “so why did you break up with Luke?” He finished.
“Joey...” she began while shaking her head.
“I don’t want to hear this ‘I don’t want to tell you’ crap or ‘it’s complicated’ because I don’t believe it” he said bluntly. Lauren sighed.
“Fine” She took a deep breath. “I didn’t like him anymore, I haven’t for a little while actually” when she finished saying this he smiled but she looked at the floor.
“Who do you like then? And tell the truth because liars are the worst kind of people” Lauren laughed.
“That’s right they are” she smiled.
“So...” Joey returned back to the question.
“Joey, do you really have to know?” she said and shook her head.
“Yes!” he persisted.
“You really don’t!” She pushed him into the sofa, to which Joey grabbed her hands, which were on his chest, and pulled her in for a kiss. They remained there for a couple of minutes before Lauren broke away.
“You ok Lo?” Joey asked his hands now on her waist.
“Yeah, I’m fine. But...” she got off Joey’s lap and sat next to him on the sofa, he tried to take her hand in his but she pulled away.
“Seriously Lo, what’s up?” He asked. “Is it because you just broke up with Luke?” he gave her a hug which she returned Joey whispered in her ear “I know who you like and it’s okay” Lauren moved her head back and looked at him “I feel the same way” he simply said and hugged her again. All of a sudden Jaime came running into the room screaming and hugged them both. Brian, Meredith, Dylan and Joe all joined the group hug.
The next morning Lauren woke up and remembered what had happened the previous night and she smiled to herself. She picked up her phone - which was on her bed side table, charging - and looked at the screen, she still didn’t have the heart to tell Luke why she broke up with him, so she had several texts from him and missed calls but she also had a missed call from Joey. She got out of bed and changed into a rehearsal outfit and went into the kitchen. Once she had eaten breakfast there was a knock at the door.
“Lo, can you get that?” Jaime said with a smile while eating the last bit of her cereal.
“Yeah, sure” Lauren went towards the door, when she opened it she had a surprise.
“You would have known if you had answered your phone” Joey said with a smile.
“Joey!” she said and flung her arms around his neck and hugged him tightly and he grabbed her waist. They broke apart a few minutes later.
“Let’s go to rehearsals” Joey said smiling.
“Yeah” she turned around “hey Jaime, you coming?” she asked.
“Yeah, hold on” she went into her room, in her absence Lauren and Joey got their opportunity. Joey put his arms back on her waist and Lauren stood on her tiptoes and put her arms round his neck again, Joey kissed her on the mouth.
“OI!” Jaime had reappeared a few minutes later “I’m okay with you guys dating not so much with the kissing” she said.
“Jaime, you’re acting like a little kid!” Lauren said and all three of them laughed and then headed out the door to rehearsals.
When all three of them walked through the doors into rehearsal Lauren and Joey had their hands intertwined, all three of them laughing and Matt walked up to Lauren.
“Hey Lo... Um... You have a visitor, He’s in the costume room” he said and walked away. Lauren put her bag where she usually put it and walked towards the costume room and just before she turned the handle to enter Joey held her wrist.
“Lauren, You know who’s in there right?” Lauren nodded. “You don’t have to go in there, you don’t need to talk to him” Joey begged her.
“Joey I have to talk to him at some point, and it has to be now” before Joey could counter argue this point Lauren went on her tiptoes and kissed his check and walked into the room.
Luke was stood looking at the Taz wig which was on the manikin head on the other side of the room. Lauren walked up to him and approached him from behind.
“You wanted to see me Luke?” Lauren said which make Luke jump.
“Lauren!” he said and attempted to put his arms round her waist but she stopped him “Lauren, what’s wrong?” he asked.
“Luke, we broke up” she looked at the floor.
“Yeah, without an explanation, you haven’t been returning my calls or replying to my texts. I just want to know why” he pleaded.
“Luke... I... Um...” she scanned the room for a seat and found one by the mirror and sat on it “I just” she took a deep breath and let it out in a huge sigh “I like someone else” she got of the seat “I’m so sorry I didn’t tell you sooner” she said. Luke was crying, not a little sniffle and watery eyes, he had tears pouring down his face and he couldn’t breathe properly, Lauren felt so ashamed she had just broken his heart there was no way he could ever forgive her “I hope that we can still be friends” she said a bit to hopefully.
“I will n-never be your f-friend again because every t-time I l-look at you my h-heart will break a-and I don’t t-think I could cope w-with that, I-I’m sorry L-Lauren” he said and ran out the room. Lauren just got to the door frame when Luke was at the door. He looked back at Lauren.
“Luke, I’m sorry!” she shouted and he ran out the door. “Ugh” Lauren said and sank to the floor.
“What happened?” Joey asked as he got to the floor to sit next to her.
“Let’s just say I told him I liked someone else.” she said and looked at Joey who gave her a hug.
“But you didn’t say who though did you?” He asked quietly after they had broken apart and their foreheads pressed together.
“No, I didn’t.” she replied quietly too, and Joey smiled. Lauren closed the space between them and kissed him full on the mouth.
“Ew!” everyone said and looked at them, Lauren and Joey just laughed.
