PEDRO PASCAL as JAY CASTILLO Red Widow (2013) 1.02 "The Contact"
Jay Castillo is a Pink Primrose
A Symbol of Tender Love: The Pink Primrose is often associated with young or idealistic love, a perfect reflection of Jay’s devotion to Kat. His marriage begins with joy, optimism, and a heart full of sincerity, much like the soft bloom of the primrose opening with the promise of spring.
Romantic Idealism: Just as the primrose has long been a symbol of enduring affection, Jay sees love through rose-colored glasses, believing in the purity and strength of his bond. His commitment to Kat mirrors the flower’s message of unwavering attachment, even when cracks begin to show.
Vulnerability in Bloom: The delicate petals of the primrose also represent fragility. Jay’s trusting nature and emotional openness make him susceptible to hurt when his expectations of love don’t align with reality. His sensitivity is both his beauty and his burden, leaving him exposed to betrayal.
Loyalty Amid Shadows: Surrounded by a world of crime and corruption, Jay remains untouched by its darker edges. The primrose, a simple and innocent bloom, captures his loyalty and integrity. He may falter under the weight of disillusionment, but his devotion remains sincere, grounded in the purity of his heart. BACK TO CHARACTER VIEW

Jay Castillo - Page of Cups
The next character in our series “Pedro’s Characters as Tarot Cards” is Jay Castillo, from Red Widow. Jay is the Page of Cups.
The Page of Cups is a loving and dreamy Page. He is sensitive, an idealist and very loyal, but he might be naive or too innocent. He is sweet and kind, imaginative and emotionally open. A person with the energy of the Page of Cups will be emotional, sensitive and creative, many times artistic, and they will often see love in an idealistic way. Youthful, dreamy and romantic, he can express his emotions, show empathy and connect with others in an emotional level.
Jay Castillo, a tattoo artist, is first introduced as a character during his wedding to Kat. He appears as a man who is in love, bursting with happiness and enjoying that moment with love sick puppy eyes and a bright smile. As the episodes progress, we see he seems to blindly believe that relationship, act in sweet and romantic ways, worship his wife and see his marriage through rose colored glasses. Kat, on the other hand, doesn’t feel the same, and doesn’t seem to be so certain getting married was the best idea, as she indicates she felt it was rushed and she wasn’t really that involved. Jay doesn’t see that, not even when Kat eventually starts to cheat on him with an FBI agent. He acts naive in many situations, he struggles to see his marriage is not going well, he remains loyal to Kat, emotionally open and idealistic. When he finally understands she doesn’t feel the same, it’s like breaking an innocent boy’s heart. For those reasons, Jay is our Page of Cups.
