bestfriend!jay x naive!female reader
content(s): jay is horrendously down bad, reader is sheltered, childhood friends, major possessive and obsessive tendencies
— he thinks you’re a being too pure for this world, so he’ll keep you safe in a little golden cage, handcrafted by yours truly
jay prides himself at knowing you best. you’ve known each other since you both were only in diapers. so jay knows all your likes and dislikes such as your favorite meal, colour and even sleeping position and he knows how much you hate it when people step on grass when it’s not meant to be stepped on.
he can almost hear your angry huff to “read the sign!” whenever he sees a ‘don’t step on the grass’ label.
jay thinks—no, he knows—he’s the one and only one that truly understands you inside and out. all he does is for you, what’s best for you. and you trust him with your life.
it’s no wonder you told him about your date, unaware of how destructive it is in his mind. his gears froze and thoughts quietened into an irritating, shrieking beeeeeeeep! before chaos ensued—loud, raucous noises near popping his head.
the way you gushed with warm cheeks and pretty, pursed lips as you tried to contain your excitement had jay feeling sick. not towards you, of course. never to you. but the fact that some random, useless waste of a guy was the receiver of your precious, pure sentiments had him absolutely disgusted. that jerk doesn’t deserve you.
if you were to feel just a scintilla of the hellish turmoil in him, you would have lost your mind. but he’s jay, your lovable, sweet and gentle bestfriend. you don’t need to see the horrors that plague his head, you’re much too soft for it.
so he just gritted his teeth and clenched his fists to the point of drawing blood just to muster a smile.
“that’s great,” he expressed.
no, it isn’t. it’s torment. a misfortune. a calamity in his dictionary.
and he’s going to fix it.
a week later, you’re crying in his arms about your date who ‘stood you up’ while he comforts you with sweet little nothings—completely unaware of the grin spread on his face as he rocks you gently in his hold.
“he isn’t worth your tears,” he says as his hands cup your face like you’re as fragile as a dandelion, and his thumbs stroke your wet cheeks. “he doesn’t deserve you. no one does.”
except me.
you melt into his touch as eyes well with tears thicker than before. you’re ever so grateful for jay. he’s always there for you.
you know you’d be lost. so utterly lost without him and you can’t help but feel pathetic at the thought. if only you knew it was mutual—though, his was exceptionally more dire.
he’d perish without you.
he brushes his knuckles against your now drying cheek when your sobs cease before pressing a warm kiss onto your forehead. when he pulls away, he has that same lovesick look on his face—an expression of love so clear to others yet, so desensitized to you from having seeing it since childhood. “you don’t need those other people, do you? not when you already have me.”
a pregnant pause follows before your lips pull to form the first smile of the hour, a silent agreement. his heart practically leaps as pupils dilate—near swallowing the brown of his eyes.
deep, low groans sound from the back of his throat as he resists the urge to just crush you within his embrace. his breaths are shaky as his hands around your face tremble with restraint.
gosh, you’re too…too sweet. intoxicatingly so that he finds himself adopting a sweet tooth just to calm his crave.
from then on, he doesn’t leave your side. he found that the more space he put, the more pests will come squeezing through to try and steal you away. he can’t have that. he’s sworn to keep you out of harm’s way and the world’s filled with the most vile things.
in your head, he’s a knight in shining armour, to others, he’s a doberman on a leash that you so unknowingly hold and to him, he’s making a clear statement. with his constant glares to others, arm around your shoulders and unnecessary touches here and there, everybody’s assumed he’s your boyfriend.
as they should, according to jay.
he grins to himself after hearing more and more hushed rumours about you and him being a campus couple and it only fuels his wheels to make it come true.
but him hearing about them only means you do too and it has you worried.
wouldn’t jay be bothered with the rumours? not at all.
what if this gets in the way of him finding someone for himself? like he even sees anyone else.
but you don’t know this. how can you? so when you brought them up, he has to shut you down—gently, of course.
“people don’t know us. they’re too quick to judge.”
“we’ve always been this way. nothing’s wrong, is there?”
“they don’t know you like i do, nor me like you do. they don’t understand us.”
jay cups your jaw with one hand, lifting your face slightly while the other draws shapes on your collarbone as it rests on your shoulder. he smiles warmly as his eyes flicker across your features, taking in every detail for the millionth time and wishing he can just burn your face into his corneas.
“unless…it bothers you. if it does then, i’ll do what you want. are you uncomfortable with it?”
you relax under his tender touch and you instinctually lean into his hold. despite his offer, you can’t ignore the way his brows point upwards or the way his hopeful gaze searches yours in a silent plea or how his small lips purse with breaths held in anxiousness.
he doesn’t want this. you can see it. and he’s done so much for you. how can you ever deny him?
that’s the thing, you can’t. and jay knows it.
so when you shake your head and say you’re fine with the rumours, he practically combusts with glee inside, overjoyed. you don’t care being called his girlfriend? you don’t mind spending everyday with him?
that practically means you like him too, right? maybe not in the way he likes you (yet), but it’s something.
“that’s settled, then,” he says—planting a lingering kiss at the corner of your mouth and inhaling sharply through his nose as he wills himself to pull away. gosh, he can never get enough of you.
and when he stands back up straight to see you smiling sweetly with eyes pouring with pure endearment and relief at his happiness, he has to bite his tongue from losing his mind right then and there.
the metallic taste of blood pulls him back to reality and his trembling fingers rake through your locks. if only you knew how feral he’d absolutely be if anyone else dared to touch a single strand of your hair.
if only you knew how much restraint he has to practice every single day just for you. if only you knew your very existence has him falling onto his knees with hands clasped together in reverence every single day—
…you’d still accept him with arms wide open and a genuine smile plastered on your pretty face. because that’s just how you are: an angel.
and no one is worthy enough to receive your grace so he has to be the one to protect you from this cruel world.
you yelp when he abruptly cages you in his arms, tight against his chest and he buries his face into your hair with a deep sigh.
“so good for me…” he mumbles as his coiling grip grows taut around you, biceps flexing and lifting you off your feet. you dangle with a giggle and his knees nearly buckle at the melody that rings in his ears like a siren’s song. a soft purr vibrates through his chest and up his throat as he revels in your warmth. “my angel.”
—⋆˚𝜗𝜚˚⋆ to rewrite himself in ways he never even thought of, to reconstruct the foundation of his beliefs and understanding of perfection as he knows it—just for you? of course
good boy!jay x bad girl!reader
content: fluff(?), angst, suggestive scenes, reader and jay both fall but jay falls harder, jay’s obsessed with (y/n) and so is his wallet, he loves spoiling reader
type: oneshot
word count: 2.2k
jongseong is the human embodiment of good. he’s discipline. he’s a gentleman. he’s everything nice. and he took pride in that, he enjoys being the warm, friendly guy who everyone sees as a welcoming haven. sure, it gets tiring sometimes and people can be a bit unappreciative—but at the end of the day, it’s just in him to be kind.
so when he saw a girl all bruised and battered sitting against the wall of their uni’s entrance one rainy evening, he expected himself to lend a hand—offering to bring her to his home for a little emergency first aid since she was adamant against the hospital.
but what he didn’t expect is to fall for her so quickly, so intensely, over the course of a few days of her staying at his house. in fact, his house feels more homey and lovable with (y/n) around—even with the occasional clothes strewn around or the scent of strawberries and cigarettes that linger around her.
so when she disappears unannounced one day, leaving only a note saying that she’ll ‘make sure to pay him back for his help,’ he finds himself losing his mind. a multitude of emotions in a constant turbulence as his senses are numbed for everything but the ache to feel the remnants of her.
it was tolerable at first—her sweet and smoky scent still lingering in his home, her clutter in the guest room still carrying her presence and the snacks that he bought for her being in the fridge and pantry deserving as a constant reminder of how she truly enjoyed her stay with him.
he could still see her, her smiles and twinkling eyes, and he could still hear her, her laughter and snores—for a moment, it seemed like she’s still with him.
but overtime, his memories of her molded into one another, creating blurry images and indistinguishable hues, her scent now gone and the objects that used to remind him of her— that remain untouched by him to retain that familiarity—just seem like…stuff.
and suddenly, everything is insufferable.
jay sobs into her pillow as he curls into himself, eyes red and jaw clenched tightly to quieten his woeful whimpers as he cries. it’s suffocating. his house is so big and spacious yet each and every room feels constricting. the walls and floors keep moving—all except the ones in her room.
“(y/n)…” he chokes out as he clutches the envelope of cash tighter against his chest. (y/n) kept her promise though—never missing her weekly payback to him but she never comes. just a fixed amount of cash stuffed into a plain white envelope sent to him and just torturing him with her absence.
still, the fact that she still holds him in her mind offer him comfort.
‘she hasn’t forgotten me,’ he thinks as he weakly flutters his heavy, puffy eyelids open. he sits up slowly, feeling cold all of a sudden as air blows onto the wet patch on his cheek from his own salty tears and he stares at the white sheet in his hand.
‘i’ll find you, (y/n). and this time, i won’t let you go.’
—
(y/n) stares up at the dark, plain canvas above, saddened by the fact that no stars are there to light it up. but she quickly digresses as her attention falls on her lit cigarette to inhale a puff.
she smoothly blows it out and watches as the fog dissipates before her eyes and taking in another. it feels…odd, to be just casually smoking without a care of her surroundings despite it being such a normal routine.
her experience staying in jay’s house seems to be internalized far deeper into her than she realizes considering how her habits there feel more normal than what she always does since long ago.
back in his house, she would always smoke out at his balcony and at the slightest sound that signals his approach, she’d kill the cig on its ashtray and wave her hand frantically to rid off any remaining puffs—not wanting him to inhale any.
so to be carefree now just feels iffy, as weird as it is. a heavy sigh escapes past (y/n)’s lips along with a long trail of smoke and she ends the cigarette before even finishing it. she has no appetite for it now.
hands in her leather jacket’s pockets, she then turns back into the club to return to her job of luring filthy rich men to spend more money and turning them into regulars. it’s a fun gig mostly, seeing that they’re usually narcissistic snobs thus, feeding their egos do the trick nicely but it’s risky too. once they realise that they’re in fact, not ‘special’ to her, they’ll fall into a tantrum. that’s what got her bruised up when jay found her.
“so, got any targets for me?” she asks the bartender who’s usually the one to keep an eye out for her next victim.
the worker points his chin to a man sitting in a bar booth alone, head facing away from them as he drinks from his wine glass. he’s apart from the dance floor, isolated from the lively section of the club where people usually sink themselves in when coming to a place like this.
(y/n)’s brows raise at his luxurious clothing—expensive fabric and suit that’s clearly tailored to him with every cut and edge accentuating his figure, colours and ornate accessories that are neither ostentatious nor humble and sparkly dress shoes that seem awfully brand new or just freshly polished.
the man exudes money. he probably smells just like it too.
“do you enjoy being a lone wolf? or would you not mind a little bit of company?” (y/n) starts slowly once she reaches the table. her voice sultry and yet relaxed, expressing interest but not coming off too desperate. a professional in her line of work.
the man stays silent for a moment before finally turning his head and the foxy smile the girl wears falls instantly.
“jay?” she shakily sounds, shock dripping from her tone. “what are you doing here?”
“i want to be. i’m a grown man capable of making his own decisions,” he casually says, a half-smile on his face as he lowers down his wine glass onto the table with precision, not making a single noise. “just like you, a grown woman capable of making her own choices—packing up and leaving me without so much of a proper goodbye.”
the girl flinches at his sharp tone. it’s acrimonious, accusatory but there’s not a single hint of malicious intent. instead, it’s more of deep-rooted hurt. a pained comment.
“i’m sorry. but it’s for the better,” she simply says, not wanting to drag the topic more than it should with the way her throat’s tightening—tears threatening to fall. “you should leave. it’s a weekday, go to your lecture or something.”
she turns on her heels, hasty, because she knows that every second spent with him will just weaken her resolve of rejecting him.
but she’s forced to a stop at his next words.
“i’m not studying anymore. thought it was useless considering i’m going to take over the family business anyways,” he casually says and bites back a triumphant grin when she swivels back to him with disbelief painted across her face.
“what?? but jay, your dream! you told me all about it—how you want to finish your studies and graduate, how you want to reach as high as you can before you’ll have to settle for the business. what about all that??” (y/n) rambles as the bewilderment grows.
he was so happy talking about it. she remembers it all so vividly, how he pictures himself in the future, how he has a list of things he wishes to achieve, how this mindset was created from the moment he gained consciousness over himself—to prove that he’s capable of more than what anyone has ever expected.
but now? he tells her that he’s stopped his degree? that he thinks it’s futile. who even is he?
“well, dreams change,” he begins and makes his way to stand in front of the girl. with a playful, almost sly grin stretched on his defined face, his hand reaches to hold her chin before lifting it up towards him. “mine did the moment i fell for you. although, it did take me a while to notice—needing you to leave me before it finally struck.”
the other says nothing—no, she can’t say anything. she doesn’t know what to say. her brain’s all muddled and figure turned to putty in his hand and the devious smirk he wears shows that he seems to be aware of it. and he takes pride in it, reveling at fact as he uses his other hand to brush her stray strands away from her face before kissing her forehead.
and they travel—down to her eyes, to her cheekbones, cheeks, nose and finally, her lips. he hovers slightly as he stares at them, mesmerized by the glossy pink and breathing deepening at the anticipation of the feeling.
he’s only ever dreamt of this moment, to be this close to her, even when she was still living with him. back then, she never let him come within her space. not in a way where she blatantly pushes him away or rejects every form of skinship.
after all, they still cuddled during nights she felt lonely and he played with her hair every so often. but ishe simply retreated whenever she saw him approach her with a slightly different intent—when his eyes gazed at her with affection heavier than usual or when his gestures seemed more intimate despite having no significant difference than the ones before.
she sensed it whenever he tried to take a step forward, so she took a step back.
but now, here she is, with a proximity so dangerous, her almost pressed up against him, and their faces just mere inches away. a small nudge and they’ll crash into one another.
his chest heaves at the thought and scalp tingles. he’s getting impatient. inching himself closer, his gaze flickers to hers for a reaction and at the absence of rejection, he instantly closes the gap between them. a guttural sound rumbles through him as his arm snakes around her waist before pulling her taut against him—her arms reciprocating the gesture.
she gasps at the hardness of his bod, never before realising how built he is and he smirks, instantly darting his tongue between her teeth and groaning at her taste. the sweet sour taste of wine mixed with her smokey cigar, dominates their taste buds and jay moans with pure gratification. he’s never tasted such a delicacy before. he craves for more.
he pulls away to give her the breaths she very much needs but doesn’t loosen his grip, simply letting her collect herself as she clings close. his gaze never leaves her face, tracing her every feature and etching them into his mind as his hand caresses soothingly on her cheek. his touch is searing, warmth seeping into her flesh and bones, melting her even further.
the familiar scent of strawberries and cigarettes fills his nose and his eyes roll to the back of his head before they shut. he shudders as her presence subjugates his senses and he presses a small kiss on her crown to assuage his urge to consume her right where she stands.
he digs his face into her hair, drowning himself in her scent as he whimpers words of gratitude like a mantra, tears lining the rims of his shut eyes. the realisation of finally having her back in his arms is real. not just another one of his fantasies or a desperate plea but reality. her warmth, her touch, her voice, they’re all here. she’s here with him. and he’d rather perish than to ever let her slip through his fingers again.
who knew that spending barely a month without her could drive him insane? not him, not until now, at least. but (y/n) has always been the element of surprise for him.
"now, let's go back to our home, yeah?" jay says with a cadence so saccharine that (y/n) feels an instant sense of longing and her arms subconsciously tighten around him, making his heart skip miles per second.
"but before that, how about we get those pretty nails of yours done? i booked you an appointment at your favourite salon. you can get that set you've been telling me all about last time, hm?"
the girl pulls away as she casts her scrutinizing stare onto his face, searching for any sort of falsity or falter in his facade but all she sees is pure, unrestrained affection oozing from his tender countenance—a man truly enamoured and it's seen by every single soul in the room.
jay's underlying anxiousness settles once he sees her finally, relax her shoulders and cave to his allures and he once again, pulls her against his chest—hand running up and down her back as he quietly revels in his victory while his lips peppers loving kisses onto her knuckles, spending longer on her ring finger as he envisions a shiny band wrapped beautifully around it.
sure, his decisions go against everything he's set for himself, everything his parents had expected of him. it requires him to rewrite himself in ways he never even thought of, to reconstruct the foundation of his beliefs and understanding of perfection as he knows it—but it's all worth it.

NOTE! i also used a prompt generator for this one lmao
Growing up, there was a knock on the door every year at midnight on your birthday. With everyone sound asleep, you would always go and check who's there, only to be met with nothing. On your 20th birthday, the knock happens as usual, but this time someone is standing in front of you. It is the handsome man from your nightmare last night—a person who wielded powerful magic and saved you from a dark being during your dream. You hope that your dream was not a premonition.
You open the door to find the handsome man from your nightmare standing right in front of your eyes. He looks just as you remember him — powerful and mysterious, with a calm and confident demeanor. You're not sure how to react to the man in your doorway, but you're certainly surprised and intrigued.
"I've come to warn you," the stranger says, his voice a melodic baritone. "I know that you saw me in your dreams last night, and I'm here to tell you that it was no ordinary dream, but a premonition of things to come."
"I can sense the potent magic from the nightmare you endured", the mysterious man continues. "It was a warning, meant to prepare you for the difficult journey that lies ahead. And I have come to help you face this challenge."
As he tells you this, you feel both intrigued and scared. You're intrigued by the power and mystery surrounding this new man, but you're also scared of what might be coming.
"Will you seek my help in facing this threat?" the man asks. "Or will you continue to walk this path alone?"
"what's your name"
"My name is Jay," the mysterious man said. "But you may refer to me as the Dreamwalker."
You were unsure of what to make of this information, but you couldn't help but feel a bit intrigued by Jay's name and title. The Dreamwalker... it sounded like something out of a fairytale.
"What do you mean, my dream was no ordinary dream?" you asked, trying to gather yourself. "What was it, then?"
"The spirit world and the physical world are separated by a thin veil of reality," Jay explained. "And from time to time, there are tears in that veil, allowing passage between the two worlds."
You nodded, trying to take in what he was saying.
"And how does this relate to my dream?" you asked.
"Dreams exist on the other side of that veil," the Dreamwalker continued. "When you sleep, your mind taps into the spiritual realms and brings back images of what is happening there. And last night, you saw a vision of a danger to come."
You listened intently as Jay explained the connection between your dream and the spirit world, feeling a deep sense of chills throughout your body. Could he be right? Had your dream really been a vision of things to come?
"What kind of danger was it?" you asked, your voice quivering slightly.
Jay was silent for a moment, his eyes scanning you with curiosity.
"A creature with dangerous magic," he said finally. "A being of great power and darkness, intent on causing harm."
You felt the hair on the back of your neck stand up. A magical creature with dangerous powers... it sounded like something straight out of a fantasy story. And yet you couldn't help but feel a sense of anxiety creeping in. Maybe Jay was right...
"It's... it's not coming for me, is it?" you asked, your voice trembling.
Jay looked at you with a somber exprssion.
"Unfortunately, it is," he said gently. "You have been chosen for a special purpose, and your life is in danger now."
You felt your breath escape your lips in a sharp gasp of fear, and you could feel the adrenaline coursing through your veins. Your life was in danger? You couldn't believe it. Why you? What was so special about you that a magical creature with dangerous powers wanted you out of the way?
"I... I d-don't understand," you stuttered out. "Why is this happening to me?"
Jay looked at you with sympathy in his eyes.
"I can't answer that," he replied. "But you must be brave, and you must be prepared."
Your mind swirled with questions and fears, yet you knew that you had to listen to the Dreamwalker's advice. If your life was really in danger, then you had to do whatever it took to protect yourself.
"How... how can I be prepared?" you asked, your voice still trembling. "I need to know more!"
Jay thought for a moment, then spoke softly.
"The one who wields magic has great power," he said. "And if you're going to fight this dangerous being, you'll need to harness the magic within yourself."
You felt your heart sink at his words, knowing how risky it would be to venture into the world of magic and try to face the powerful being that Jay had warned you about. Yet you also felt excited at the thought of exploring the world of magic and discovering your true potential.
"How do I do that?" you asked, trying to sound brave despite your inner fears. "How do I become a mage?"
Before Jay could respond, you heard a loud knock at the door. Was it someone else sent to warn you about the dangers to come?
This Fic was originally written for Stray kids Han. But now I'm releasing it as Jay fic. It's just a short fic. Enjoy reading 😘
Y/n's POV:
Currently, I'm on a bus to jeju island, waiting for all my classmates to board the bus. We were going to Jeju island for a school trip. Yeah classic. But, going on vacation and stuffs like that are not really my type. I prefer to stay at home watching netflix or reading some good novels. Then you might think as to why I am here.....well, actually my best friend Jina, dragged me to this trip, like literally. Why? Because her crush Sunghoon is going on the trip. I saw Jay boarding the bus, He is one of the richest students in the school, so he had only a few friends whom he trusts and believes.
I have never seen him date any girl despite his Playboy look. I secretly had a teeny weeny crush on him which I never disclosed to anyone. Even Jina doesn't have any idea that I like Jay. I manage to make it a well kept secret which is known only to me and no one else. We made an eye contact briefly before I decided to quickly turn my eyes away from him. The bus started and put my earphones on and presented that I was in a freaking music video as I admired the natural scenery passing by outside the window. The journey came to an end after hours of travel and we all got off of the bus and went to the rooms allocated to us by the homeroom teacher. I shared my room with Jina and some other girls from my class. The hotel was located near the beach so, the view looked really pretty. Oh how I wish I could just sit here and enjoy without having to go out and socialise? But we'll guess who is dragging me outside now? Yep, none other than Jina. She dragged me out to the beach side and saw some guys from our class playing in the water. Now I know why she desperately pulled me out of the room. Sunghoon was here, playing among the students. She kept on rambling about how hot Sunghoon was but my eyes were only fixated on one person, Jay.
Soon it was time for dinner, after we filled our stomach with some yummy foods I decided to just go back to the room but Jina didn't let me," where are you going? I heard they set a campfire next to the lounge. Let's go there"she exclaimed and begged me cutely. Well one can never say no to a cute lady..."okay but only for few minute" I said. I expected it to be crowded but guess everyone left to sleep as they were tired from the travel. Only Sunghoon's group and some other few students were there. Now I know the intention behind why Jina dragged me here and this is the second time I'm getting fooled by her cuteness today. "Hey can you guys join us for a game?" Heeseung asked us. I wanted to refuse but- "of course" Jina happily joined them dragging me down with her again. I sat next to Jungwkm,"so what game are we playing?" Jay asked. He looked kind of bored and not interested.
"So let's spin the bottle and whoever it points to has to play Pepero game with the person on the other side of the bottle" Ni-ki said and wiggled his eyebrows like a evil person. Everyone cheered hearing his idea while I wondered where he gets these weird ideas from. Sunoo spun the bottle first, it stopped in front of Heeseung and Sunoo(👀) they managed to complete the game without any mess(a.k.a lips touching). Next, the bottle pointed on Sunghoon and Jina, we all cheered loudly for them, it was so funny watching Jina flustered. The game went on and it was happy and fun until the bottle stopped infront of me and... Jay. I was clearly nervous when he approached me with the Pepero stick. The game started and he didn't make any efforts to move forward so I did. I looked at his eyes but he was clearly not interested at all.
This broke my heart for some reason. So, I just backed away from the game even when the Pepero stick was not even half completed. "I don't think Jay likes this. So, let's finish it here....please excuse me I have to go somewhere" I told them and walked away from the campfire and went to the beach alone. I sat there crying in silence looking at the sea. Someone sat next to me but I didn't mind since I thought it'd probably be Jina. "Why are you crying?" Once I heard his voice I thought I was dreaming until I turned towards him and made eye contact. "What are you doing here Jay?" I asked him which he replied with, "Look you make it look like I made you cry. So my friends compelled me to console you" he said with straight face. Yeah right, why else would he come here?, "I need some time alone" I said and stood up from there realizing he's not gonna go away from there. "Wait...sit here" he said holding my hand "I'm not your dog to do as you say" I snapped at him. "Please" he made those puppy eyes. Did he learn that from Jina? "Ugh fine, just for few minutes" I sat down again next to him, looking at the sea.
"Do you know why I don't date anyone...? It's because my family forbid me to do so" he said now looking at me. I felt sad for him, "but why are explaining it to me?" I asked him. "It's just I like someone.... I can't express it to her. So, I wanted someone's opinion. You just happened to be here" I felt my heartbreaking. Even though I know he's out of my range, I had a small hope that he looked at me as more than just a classmate when he explained about his family to me but guess not and also he likes someone else. It hurts to know that I am not the favourite person of my favourite person. "If you like her, then just man up and tell her. No family would want to destroy their own children's happiness" I said to him sadly. "Then can I do it now?" He asked bluntly,"go on and tell her. Good luck" I told him and turned away sadly, "I love you" he told loudly and I looked at him weirdly "not here. To the girl you like, stupid Jay" "yeah, that's what I'm doing, I love you, Y/n" he confessed and I can see that he meant it through the look in his eyes. "You never spared a glance at me and you looked so irritated during the Pepero game only to say you love me?" I asked him crying out of happiness (lol) I just want to scold him a little for being so cold to me. "Y/n, it's okay if you don't like me....please don't cry" he said kind of sad and gently wiped the tears out of my eyes. I giggled at him slightly and pushed his shoulder, "now who said I don't like you" he looked at me surprised, "t-then do you like me?" he asked and I nodded.
He pulled my head towards his face and asked "Can I?" To which I nodded my head shyly and the next thing I knew was he kissed me on the lips. I was a bit shy due to our sudden closeness, but kissed back in few seconds. He pulled away slightly and smiled at me. "I love you y/n" "I love you too Jay" he kissed me again but we were interrupted by loud whistling and cheering noises. We turned around to look at his friends and Jina cheering for us. "Did you guys decide to continue your Pepero game alone?? without us??" NiKi teased us and we both flustered like a tomato.

Throughout his entire life, people chastised Jay for his patience or lack thereof. Yet patience was not a virtue. It never was fruitful and never would be. Had it been, Jay wouldn’t be trapped in his current dilemma.
He didn’t count but it had been fifteen minutes since you followed Heeseung and Sunghoon into the eldest’s kitchen and from the blessed mirror image being engraved in his brain thanks to Heeseung’s ginormous ceiling-high mirror, Jay could easily see how you giggled as the two boys joked around instead of microwaving popcorn and getting soda. Hell, at this point your giggles and his laptop overheating a few feet away were the only sounds flooding his ears.
He wished-prayed even- that the couch would swallow him whole when his unmoving eyes were cursed with seeing Sunghoon pat your head after a joke didn’t land successfully. Jay knew that both of them knew that you didn’t know about his not-so-small crush on you and he knew that they knew he trusted them not to break the code. Yet, a more minor and less significant voice spoke in his head when he saw your glittering eyes stare up at Heeseung.
Heeseung’s got way more rizz than you, Jay”, said the voice that sounded awfully a lot like his own. He imagined a small Jay inside his head speaking to him, giving unsolicited statements. Statements and not opinions because, well, statements were factual information while opinions were just opinions. Heeseung did have a talent for flirting like an expert and if the boy was aware of his actions when he pulled heartstrings was not known to Jay but he knew Heeseung would never try to be more than friendly with you. Sunghoon?
Sunghoon was a completely different story. Best friends since birth, they discovered life together. Sunghoon saw him when he was locked out by the world and supported Jay as the boy created himself into what stood tall before him today. However, Sunghoon was also undeniably and incredibly attractive. It was a fact, scientifically proven and all. He had the most followers on every social media despite his barely two posts per three months agenda. And besides, Sunghoon would lean over your shoulder to smack the old rickety microwave every time it buzzed off. Too close…
Jay was never insecure about himself, he was confident with what he had and knew what he lacked in order to work on his flaws (like patience). So there was no need to feel less compared to his friends because he was more than enough. All he had to do was stuff the little imaginary Jay in his mind into a box and lock him in forever. Yeah, that would work well.
In the midst of his thoughts, Jay had lost count of the minutes. He blinked his eyes into focus and his laptop had fallen asleep, the tv screen dark with the HDMI symbol glaring at him. He loosened his grip on the tv remote and sighed through his nose.
His ears perked like a cat’s as he heard your silky voice float through the space.
“Heeseung, I think that’s enough.”
Heesung laughed loudly. A smack delivered on the pitiful microwave top. The poor thing was almost denting at this point.
You spoke again, calm and patient (God, Jay adored you). “Heeseung, really we can order in. Let’s call Sunoo to bring the popcorn, yea?”
Heeseung didn’t respond, preoccupied with a telepathic conversation with the pathetic machine. it was Sunghoon’s turn to sigh. “It’s been a bit wonky ever since we forgot a spoon in it.”
From the corner of his eye, Jay observed how the reflection your eyes widened comically. “I’m sorry-you what?”
Heeseung had finished his conversation and placed a warm hand on your shoulder.
“He meant what he said,” he replied sadly.
You turned to face Heeseung but Jay was unable to see or hear what you said because Jake, sitting on the other end of the couch, had poked his leg.
Jake, sweet friendly Jake, stretched his lips into a honey smile but his worried eyes told Jay what was really going to happen in a few. If Jay felt his body was glued to the leather couch, Jake was much worse, like he was melting into the couch.
"Ya good, Jake?” Jay asked like a nice friend.
Jake laughed uneasily. He opened his mouth, then hesitated. He would say something so rotten it might offend Jay, so he tries to sugarcoat it but has trouble finding the right words.
Jay watched him squint. Then his expression returned to his usual bright one when the answer dawned upon him.
"Yeah! You just looked real pissed is all," is what Jake settled with after a few moments.
Jay felt his face warm up but he maintained his usual expression. He quickly turned his head in front to hide any visible signs of embarrassment.
Like a nice friend, Jake mimicked. Both of them silently stared at the tv. They watch as the HDMI symbol transitioned into darkness as the tv automatically clicked off.
Oh, Jay was holding the remote, right? He saw Jake stare at him from the corner of his eye. So, he did what came to him naturally, he pulled his lips into a stiff smile, all wrong and sharp at the edges.
If Jake noticed how constipated he looked, he chose to ignore it.
They heard footsteps approaching and Jake turned over the couch and somehow, at the sight of food, he appeared to glow even brighter than before.
He dapped up Sunghoon for some reason and the other boy responded enthusiastically. Their smiles and excitement made Jay’s heart swell and he found his lips tug upwards out of genuine feelings.
Then, he stopped as soon as he saw Heeseung.
Heeseung seemed busy engaged in conversation with you and the idiot made you hold both popcorn bowls.
You unconsciously walked an extra foot to avoid the second couch and towards the empty space on Jay’s left. Heeseung was quick to notice and paused the conversation to slip in a subtle smug smirk at Jay. He ignored his friend’s expression as always and automatically, like an instinct, he moved slightly to create space for you beside him.
He felt your body heat as the couch dipped and he feels like a middle school girl. Your shoulder brushed against his and he felt like the same middle school girl was giddy and nervous while confessing to a soon-graduating senior.
But it's when you offered him a smile and a bowl overflowing with popcorn that he sensed his brain short circuit and a fuse pop.
The tips of his ears were scarlet. "Thanks." He mumbled taking the bowl from you.
you smiled sweetly at him, shy and bashful for some reason. “I know how much you love popcorn so we made one bowl for you.”
Jay ignore how his heart did backflips at your usage of singular first pronouns and ignored how his heart clenched when you switched to “we”.
The moment was cut short as Sunghoon barked,” I bet he likes a lot of things. Way more than popcorn.” He stared at Jay, eyes pools of mirth. Jay should have uninvited him, told him the government abolished weekends or some other lie.
You nodded. “Yea, he likes corn as well.”
The raven-haired cackled,” He likes sweet people that make popcorn as well. So sweet, kind of like caramel popcorn.”
You squinted at Sunghoon,” I didn’t know he liked sweet popcorn as well.” Then you turned your head to look at Jay, your ponytail swished and slapped his cheek from how close you had turned and Jay could feel his lungs begin to give out. Where was the damn remote.?
He felt too vulnerable, too naked under the gazes that preyed upon him. He shrugged unknowingly.
You turned to Sunghoon once more and though he expected it, Jay did not move his face away from your hair smacking him. So what if he loved how good it smelt, sue him.
Perhaps Jay was in debt because suddenly Jake and Heeseung joined the conversation
Heeseung called out your name in a tone of false anger, he raised an accusing finger at you. Jay felt offended at the action even though it wasn’t even pointed at him. Heesung really let go of manners when he pulled out the “hyung card”.
“How can you be so careless! You keep hitting poor Jay with your hair.”
Instantly, you turned to Jay and once again, hit him and Jay didn’t even mind when your strands grazed his eyelids.
“Oh my God, I didn’t even realise! I’m so sorry, Jay,” your voice was like a freshly blossomed flower under a soft drizzling of dancing raindrops, like the first cold shiver in an endless abyss of water on a scorching day. Your expression was so heartfelt, eyes so apologetic. Jay hated seeing your lips frown.
“I can move,” you quickly followed with after he gave no response. He heard someone tsk loudly and then a loud voice that cracked in the air.
“No!”
His brain whispered how it was his own voice and his body burned under his clothes. The air was still and silent, he had no idea what faces the other three were making but he was hypnotized by your eyes and how they changed from worry to hesitance to accept and then finally, your eyes curved as you revealed your gorgeous smile to him. He stared as you got comfortable once more, your thigh brushing against his.
Air didn’t reach his lungs properly, he sighed loudly. He forced his body to relax.
It was fine. It was you. He had sat next to you a billion of times, on the same couch, in restaurants, and in class-he was always next to you so why was he acting like this?
“You’ve never been so close to her,” Little Jay giggled. When the hell did he get out?
Just when Jay felt ease seep back into his bones, you decided to pull the ground beneath his feet.
“I know, I can untie my hair. That way it won’t be in the way when I have to talk to those two,” you said flicking your wrist at Sunghoon and Heeseung on the other small couch. You looked so proud of your ingenious idea. In a quick motion, barely giving Jay time to prepare you slipped the hair tie out of your hair and rolled it on your wrist.
When the first “hair theory” reel popped up on his page, Jay thought it was garbage. Fashion had a much larger and more vital impact on one's appearance compared to hair. But seeing you now, Jay felt a coil tie around his throat and his heart beat wildly in his ears. He wanted to run his fingers through your hair, he wanted to brush it out of your face and gently tuck it behind your ear. Your hairstyle complimented your face cut so well, despite it not being styled it looked so elegant and graceful, of course, you would look so ethereal either way. It was you and you were beautiful. It was a statement. A fact. A firm notion according to Jay.
Jay swallowed dryly. “yea..that’s pretty-I mean that’s literally so smart.”
Heeseung wheezed and Jake slithered a comforting hand on Jay’s leg. No one bothered to switch on the tv or check on his laptop. Movie night be damned, their boy was trying to impress.
You glanced at Jay, eyes fluttering between looking at him and downcast, lip pulled between your pearly whites to stop from smiling.
“Thank you.”
Mentally, Jay’s brain took a screenshot of your current expression and saved it with the other billion pictures of you to remember and giggle at like a lovestruck fool at night.
The air finally returned to the room. He took a deep breath. Gave you one of his killer smile, the one that always made the older ladies tell him about their daughters his age. He was rewarded with your flustered face, shoulders hunched as you leaned into the couch as if it were a shield.
This time when he spoke, he was confident, voice deep. “What are we watching, guys?”
At that very moment, Jay came to a conclusion. He would confess to you before the end of summer before everyone got too busy with their own lives. He had to confess and enjoy summer with you-spend it with you in a more than friendly way. And he had the perfect plan.
