hi again crab,,, maybe 40 for harriet + jayden if you want? I Think About Them
40. wake-up kisses
Harriet took a moment to really admire Jayden. Her room was quiet, sunny, and warm; the sunbeams reaching through the curtains hadn’t yet made it to their face. Jayden’s hair splayed out around her. A wild tangle of bedsheets and blankets did much the same. Apparently she rolled around her her sleep. Harriet made note of that for later.
They were just so pretty. Harriet almost didn’t want to wake them. But some things were just necessary. Heaving a long, dramatic sigh in its head (the out-loud ones would come after Jayden got up), Harriet leaned down to Jayden, closer and closer, until it could count their eyelashes and feel their breath against its skin. She pursed her lips…
And blew the whistle with every bit of air in her lungs. The shriek it produced was almost matched by the one Jayden made as she sat bolt upright and just barely missed headbutting Harriet, who congratulated themself on their reflexes.
“Rise and shine, Jayden!” Harriet proclaimed, jumping onto the foot of their bed. One of their horns stabbed a hole in Jayden’s ceiling. “Oops. Bill me for that. Up and at ‘em, girl, you’ve got training to do! Healthy breakfasts to make! Hot demons to kiss when your jealousy of their blaseball skills reaches a fever pitch!”
Jayden swung a pillow at Harriet’s feet, but it jumped back and off the bed. “That’s the spirit! Fight! Fight! How are you gonna show me up on the field if you can’t show me up in your bedroom?” Harriet paused. “Hmm. Forget I said that.”
With a muted thump, Jayden fell backwards onto their now pillow-free mattress. “Five more minutes.”
Harriet treated Jayden to one of the long, dramatic sighs it’d been holding in. It made its way back to her bedside and — after untangling one of the twisted blankets — tucked her back in. “You get ten, because I’m just too nice. But you have to make it up to me tomorrow. I saw a very pretty dress and bought it in your size. And I got us dinner reservations. And tickets to the theatre. Mmmkay?” She leaned down and kissed her on the temple. “And good morning!”
With a giggle and a final fweet from the whistle, Harriet left Jayden to her few extra minutes of sleep.
