Jaydick Week: Day3: Restraints
Continue with Day 1
Jay was the first Robin. Dick was the replacement. Better than the original Jason might say. But little wing was still too young. He was supposed to fly higher.
“ No more flying you, Boy wonder.”
Jason woke up to the smell of seawater. His clothes were soaked, and he could hear the tide rushing around him, but he was laying on solid land. He blinked harshly in the bright light, not seeing a thing.
A storm. There had been a terrible storm. But Bruce had yelled at him to steady the sails, so Jason held on for dear life as he steadied the sails. Waves crashed into his face, and he could barely see the rest of the crew. Bruce was gripping the helm, steering them like a madman, trying to prevent the ship from capsizing. Jason just had to steady the sails.
But he lost control as a mammoth wave crashed onto the ship, lifting Jason off his feet and tossing him into the murky depths of the ocean. Jason strained to keep his eyes open, desperate to see light. But all he could see was darkness. Jason was going to die. Why had Bruce made them sail? He’d been warned of a devastating storm.
He felt the air leave his lungs. A blue shimmer caught the corner of his eye before he knew no more.
Jason coughed, emptying the remaining water from his lungs. He heard a gentle, melodious voice singing softly, and was suddenly very aware of a hand stroking his cheek. His eyes strained, but his vision was suddenly becoming clearer. He blinked a couple more times, unsure if he was seeing things.
A man was leaning over him. A beautiful man. His dark, wet hair was pushed back from his face and his clear blue eyes were bright and curious. His mouth formed a sweet smile as his singing died off noticing Jason’s consciousness.
“You…you saved me?” Jason asked, voice hoarse, touching the hand on his cheek.
The beauty said nothing, gently pulling away and placing his hand meaningfully on Jason’s chest.
Jason reached for him again, but leapt away from Jason impressively. Jason got to his feet just as he heard a splash. He glanced all around him; where had the other man gone? He looked out into the ocean, but could sense no movement.
“Jason!” cried a voice from afar, breaking Jason from his reverie.
“Tim!” Jason rushed over to his brother and enveloped him in a hug. “Jason, you’re okay! I was afraid we’d lost you in the storm! Bruce was devastated!”
“He damn well should be!” Jason snarled back, “If it weren't for his stupid crusade, we wouldn’t have been out in that mess! I’m only alive because of…”
“Because of what?” Tim asked.
“Did you see a man? When you came looking for me? He pulled me from the water. He…” Jason stared off into the ocean again, brow furrowed in confusion, “he sang to me. He was beautiful.”
Tim stared at him, “Maybe you swallowed more sea water than you think, Jason. Let’s get you home.”
Jason looked back at the ocean sadly, but allowed himself to be led away by Tim.

Summary: It's just Jason's luck that his attempt to take a night off from crime fighting results in an assassin coming to kill him in his own home. What's a little more surprising, though, is that assassin turning out to be his soulmate.
When the window to his modest one bedroom apartment shatters inwards, Jason’s first reaction isn’t fear or surprise like most people’s would be, but instead a particular sense of anger paired with exasperation.
There goes his hope for what should have been a rare quiet night in.
Throwing himself forward out of his armchair, he just barely avoids the needle thin dagger thrown at his head. It embeds itself into the soft cushion like a knife slicing through butter, and Jason hates to think what that would have down to his skull if he’d remained sitting where he was.
Thankfully, the lessons Bruce drilled into him back when he was just a kid remain as sharp as ever. Both in terms of reacting to a threat and being prepared for the eventually of one even before it strikes. Jason tucks and rolls, dropping his book — a torrid love affair he’ll never admit to reading to anyone — to one side, before ripping free the gun he keeps taped to the underside of the coffee table and bringing the barrel round to point at his attacker.

He doesn’t want to fall in love; he doesn’t want to be in a relationship. While the world rushes in search of The One, Jason longs to settle into his life without romance. Then Dick shows up with his smile and his charm and his perfectly matching soulmate mark to the one on Jason’s wrist. Jason doesn’t know how to tell Dick that he can’t be in love with the man, that somehow the universe made a mistake. The lies are getting bigger and Dick’s heart is on the line, Jason is going to have to tell the truth.
Jason dropped his backpack on the floor as he examined the flyer he’d put up a week ago. None of the If Interested Call pieces were ripped off. Half of it was covered by a big pink flyer, hearts around the advertisement for Match-Marking services. Jason clenched his jaw, ripping off the advertisement blocking his search for a roommate.
“If I didn’t know you better, I’d think you were suddenly very passionate about finding the love of your life,” Roy said, stepping up beside him. Jason didn’t respond. “Fortunately, I do know you better.”
Jason threw the balled up flyer into the nearby trashcan.
“The search for a new roommate not going too well I take it?” Roy asked. When Jason only continued to remain silent, Roy sighed. “I’m sorry, Jason.”
“Don’t be,” Jason said, finally. He dragged a hand through his hair. “It’s not your fault. You found Kori, it’s only natural that you’d want to move in with your soulmate. I’m not angry, I’m not even upset.” Maybe a little disappointment but Jason wasn’t going to make Roy feel worse by saying that out loud.

#JayDickWeek2017 Day 5: Bruised and Bloody
Yeah, yeah. Hella late. I know. I'm a disappointment. Yup.
Guess I'm not responsible enough. Oh, I already knew that.
I know I can do better but I just can't right now.
If there are mistakes. Note that my first language isn't even English.
Dick saves Jason.
Ohmigosh, I thought this piece was ambitious for me, just, was not prepared for a deadline! Now I can find out if it actually looks as good on the smaller format tumblr puts it in rather than the blown up thing I’ve been working on!
Day 4 for JayDick Week 2017: Mer Au.
Rambling under the cut!
I’m not sure where the net is being tied down… but I’m pretty sure Dick just led the two of them into an ambush and he’s not concerned at all.
It was a challenge to also design their look as mers - I wanted to do something quite alien, but was waaay too lazy to find references that I could draw from, and anything that I produced was ugly, and I sort of wanted them to look like beautiful exotic creatures, which, is the whole point of the modern day construction of mermaids - something desirable despite its nonexistence? So, I instead went about thinking how mermaid vigilantes would work, and concluded that tails and patterns could be as identifiable as faces, but I didn’t want to mask the pretty tails, so the idea of hiding their identities was thrown out the window. I thought armour should be made primarily with straps and clasps, as a skin tight suit would be impossible to pull on and off in water.
Also, is it a theme I’m having, with associating Dick with ropes and restraints?
