"Jaime, I'm sorry I wasn't quick enough to keep you from getting shot."

He blinked.

"That was never on you; I'm the one who took that risk. I'm the one who got a bullet in his shoulder." He stated, frowning. "It's not your fault, you still caught me."

Jason shook his head, pressing his forehead against Jaime's.

"You're supposed to be a civilian, you're not supposed to be all mixed up in this. I wanted to keep you away from the pain it brings."

Jaime grasped his hands and thumbed the knuckles framing his face.

"That wasn't your decision, it wasn't anyone's decision." He chuckled. "I'm Two-Face's default hostage, I was doomed from the start."

Jason flinched, pulling his hands back. His blue-green eyes had the film of unshed tears. Jaime hated it. It brought a hurt to his heart and it was as if his head was dunked into cold water.

"Don't- Don't talk like that." He shook his head again. "You're not doomed like some character in a tragedy."
