Two legendary American cars are inextricably linked with the personality of Carroll Shelby: the Cobra and the Mustang. The first of them Shelby created in 1962, when he was forced to end his racing career due to heart disease. His idea of installing a powerful American V8 engine on the lightweight British AC Ace roadster was so successful that it earned the Cobra the status of one of the best sports cars of all time, replicas of which are successfully sold today.

Unveiled at the 2004 Detroit Auto Show, this car was exactly the same original Shelby concept: a powerful engine mounted on a small roadster with minimalistic exterior and interior trim.

The Cobra had almost the same aluminum spaceframe chassis as the Ford GT supercar, but it had the engine in the front and the 6-speed gearbox in the rear along with a limited-slip differential.

In theory, the Shelby Cobra could overcome the 400 km / h barrier, but the top speed was electronically limited to 160 km / h.

Braking was provided by ventilated disc brakes with 4-piston Brembo calipers. The Cobra's interior was utterly spartan, but the sport seats and aluminum trim lent its uncompromising character. Shelby considered unnecessary such familiar attributes as windshield wipers, side windows, roof, radio, air conditioning and ABS.

In 1913, German émigrés Fred and August Dusenberg began building racing cars in Indianapolis. Thanks to innovative chassis and engine designs, they have culminated in a streak of victories in the Indy 500 and the French Grand Prix. After the end of the First World War, the brothers began mass production of expensive cars, but their business was slow and did not bring any income. In 1926, the company was bought out by the famous entrepreneur Errett Kord, on whose initiative and for whose money Fred Dusenberg created the legendary Duesenberg J.

In 1964, US-American Bruce Meyers assembled the first dune buggy: Handmade, open to the elements - without doors or roof - and based on a shortened Beetle chassis. He was seeking an alternative to the heavy four-wheel jeeps, in order to move faster through the Californian dunes.

The first buggy, the "Meyers Manx", was born. In 1967, he proved on the Mexican peninsula "Baja California", that he had indeed created a real alternative. He set a new record time, racing through the desert from Tijuana to La Paz, in his first Monocoque-Manx. Quickly, the fun car conquered the beaches of the American coast and became a cult-classic car of the 70s. Up until the 1980s, around 250,000 individual Beetle-based vehicles were built worldwide - as one-offs or at low volumes: From the Beetle Cabriolet to special bodies from companies such as Hebmüller and Rometsch, and the famous, completely open Meyers Manx Dune Buggy.
