Kuvira Week Day 1: Solace/Torment Sometimes, it’s you versus the world.
Kuvira, Lin and Baatar from @stealingyourdreams‘ Mafia AU- inspired by the manga Gangsta.
Club Zaofu is owned by Suyin Beifong, head of the Beifong Clan and one of the Big Three controlling Republic City. Kuvira is Suyin’s head bodyguard and lead dancer. She scans the crowd for trouble. There’ll be hell to pay if she finds it. Lin is the blacksheep of the family, a detective who’s trying to bring her sister down. She used to work with a partner until they died mysteriously. Baatar is a bartender and skilled with surgical tools, knowing just the right spot to cut. He assists Kuvira in covert interrogations.

Baavira AU Week - Day 3: Hollywood
Kuvira’s look is modeled after Gigi Hadid’s Tommy Hilfiger gown at the 2016 Met Gala. I thought the metallic notes were a good fit for her, so I replicated the dress and added the shoulder as a statement piece. Baatar is just, well, dapper. I think he likes to pretend he’s not trying.
Baavira AU Week: Day 4- Coffee Shop
I was really struggling to find inspiration for this one, until I realized I could just draw my local coffee shop. It turned out to be a good challenge- I’ve never sketched an environment before, in person- but I’m glad I gave it a shot. Definitely have a lot to improve in terms of shading and proportions.

Baavira AU Week - Day 5: Monster
Do Pocket Monsters count? I hope so, because I’ve been dying to draw Kuvira and Baatar in Pokemon style for a while. This is based specifically on 1st and 2nd gen artwork, back when Pokemon concept art was exclusively watercolor. The nostalgiaaaaaa.
I used Procreate’s Oriental Brush and a lot of Smudge tool attempting to replicate the style. Oh and they’re joined by a Registeel, a 3rd gen Pokemon that really gives me mecha vibes. I changed it’s red markings to purple to match the Colossus.
Baavira AU Week - Day 1: Online
I’ve been meaning to have a go at pixel art, so what better opportunity than with these two cuties? I loosely based them off of Pokemon trainer sprites, but they really started to have a look of their own. Lesson of the day: translating complicated features to pixel size is hard. But I think they look like themselves! The backdrop is a pixelated screencap of Zaofu (because doing that myself would be god tier and I am not at god tier). Enjoy!
