Jazz N Soul Music presents Willie Walker & Conversation Piece

Jazz N Soul Music presents Willie Walker & Conversation Piece on Feb. 19.  Join us for a night of smooth jazz with a shot of soul. Conversation Piece gives people something to talk about!  It all happens at the The Tavern in the historic south end of Uptown.  Enjoy dinner and drinks.

The band is a successful and respected staple in Charlotte with a loyal following. Conversation Piece members include Willie Walker on bass guitar and vocals, Carl Ratliff on saxophone and flute,, Darryl Peyton on Trombone, Kevin Homesley on keyboards and Christian Whitley on drums. Conversation Piece has been performing as a quintet for more than a decade. The six talented individuals with impressive musical backgrounds combine for a unique sound. Walker, Paige, Ratliff, Payton, Moore, Homesley, and Whitley bring together not only their love of music, but also, years of experience in the musical industry.

Prepare for a night of Blues and Jazz with shot of Soul! Jazz guitarist, singer and songwriter Calvin Edwards brings his dynamic trio to The Tavern on East Morehead St. Born in Kings Mountain N.C., Calvin is also a well-known international artist who has performed in Okinawa, Tokyo, and China as well as performing for the G8 Summit for President Clinton in Okinawa. Calvin is now performing in the USA and has played in San Francisco, New York, Charleston, including The 2005 NAMM SHOW in Anaheim, CA, the Romare Bearden 99th Birthday Bash, the grand opening of the Mint Museum in Charlotte, NC, the Fall for Greenville event in SC, the Spoleto Festival in Charleston, SC and the Guilford College Homecoming in Greensboro, NC. At 17, he joined the famous Gospel group Five Blind Boys of Alabama for many years.

1st Friday success

Jazz N Soul Music concert series held court with Calvin Edwards.  He is a musical champion on the stage.  A confident bold player that can even make a trio powerful.  He was accompanied by a veteran bass player and a young talented drummer who was ready to the task.

Upfront Jazz

This is an outstanding band.  They have a special way of interacting with the crowd.  Its not forced, just their joy of playing that is picked up by the audience.  Its not unusual when they play; someone is inspired to come out of the audience and perform with them.   It may be a singer or a musician.  Those guest appearances really help propel the evening along for all.
