I hope its alright to ask! & sorry that its maybe creepy, but ive been going hardcore thru your tag/s for the tick & the comics - did you ever end up percolating/writing up your thoughts on how arthur's 1st introduction in each version rly reflects on the whole ~where superheroes are standing as cultural fantasies? - ty & sorry again lol, love yr fanfics

altho I do admit that I had a moment of panic like “was this something I had thoughts on and where??” BUT you are in luck... I tracked down some notes I took (thank you google drive):

Basically it’s really interesting how Tick and Arthur’s various introductions throughout their iterations (comics --> cartoon --> 2001 --> 2017) all follow similar beats... but differ in key ways.  

NOTABLY in the comics Arthur actively tracks Tick down, because he’s bored with mundanity. He wants to be special, he knows who he is and wants to be able to express this. He quits his job because he wouldn’t take off the bunny suit, and his boss didn’t like it.  This is similar in the cartoon and 2001 version, as I recall, with varying amounts of haplessness and low self-confidence.

IN 2017 LIVE ACTION Tick is the one who bumps into Arthur... neither are looking for the other, although it kinda seems like Tick was drawn towards Arthur and the City subconsciously, like he knows they’re supposed to be a team. It takes Tick a whole season to convince Arthur to be a superhero full-time. Arthur is very stuck thinking he’s supposed to want to be normal, that he can’t make a real impact, that this is all too weird.

So I was thinking about this as: Superheroes are a fantasy for the average person. We want to go on adventures, be awesome, save the day. We don’t necessarily trust that we can pull it off and we know like Arthur we don’t have superpowers, but maybe if we stumbled across a supersuit we could put it to good use. (And now I wonder if this tracks with MCU era superheroes -- do we fantasize about being them or being saved by them? For every everyman Spiderman and Hawkeye, there’s larger-than-life legends that become increasingly outside what we can imagine for ourselves...)

This superhero-fantasy thing all tracks with Arthur’s journey in every iteration, but he’s more active about it starting in the comics, and by 2017 he has to be dragged into it instead. There’s a shift in form from least realistic to almost painfully realistic (comics/cartoon --> sitcom --> gritty dramedy, at least to start), like each time Arthur has to make this choice (to be weird, to step up, to be himself) it gets harder.  I wonder if modern day more than before, we’re all just trying to get by and survive... What we need is to be told that everybody can step up to be the hero when needed, that no matter how ordinary we think we are (or “should” be) we have the potential to be awesome -- I wonder if nowadays we have to be dragged into allowing ourselves to dream that anything we do will actually help.  

I wonder if it has become harder to believe that fantasies can turn into reality.

someone leaves a space tupperware of space brownies behind at the bar.  Quark in his nightly scavenging for trash is like “hooray a free snack, now I don’t have to buy dinner”, gets fucked up and super paranoid, freaking the hell out. Odo is Concerned, they go to Bashir & he recommends someone needs to trip sit Quark while it passes through his system, Odo takes that responsibility on himself... eventually quark chills out, gets touchy feely cuddly.  Turns out the brownies were a setup to occupy Quark and Odo while they attempt a robbery of the bar’s latinum— but jokes on the robbers, because there’s all of two strips in the till and they can’t get passed Rom’s finangled security locks anyway

nogzhenko!!!

basically Nog sees Alexander across the promenade is super intimidated by this hot klingon warrior, he's got a crush *bad*. Jake takes it upon himself to talk Nog up to Alexander, hotshot ensign first Ferengi in starfleet!!, which has the effect of Alexander being super intimidated by Nog... They go on a date anyway, and end up bonding hardcore over family expectations, culture clashes, weird upbringings, etc. Worf of course eventually finds, extra layer of drama.

this one is me trying to figure out a way to combine several ideas:

Odo & Quark have to work together on an investigation, maybe Quark has some money riding on the outcome (but secretly he's worried about Odo) plus he has necessary info

something about Quark wanting Odo to arrest him because he's scared, Odo getting suspicious and thinks it's a scheme idk

a scene where they're traveling and ~~oh no there's only one bed~~ except they're both such assholes they refuse to let the other one have it... cue escalation with one trying to lock the other outside, etc. they eventually both end up sitting on the couch arguing into the night determined that if one can't have it neither of them get it, then of course they accidentally fall asleep & wake up cuddling each other :)

for the ask: odo bashir kira?

Lab partner: Bashir. He’ll be a total know-it-all and probably obnoxious about it, but he’ll know how to do everything right, and maaaybe I could harness his enthusiasm to get him to explain it all to me. 

Elevator: Kira, cuz she’s a survivor. I feel like she’s experienced enough with hunkering down and making the best of things, and the one I’d most like to just hang out with for that long in one go. Or, maybe she could bust us out.

McDonalds: I’m left with Odo ljksdfjlk except that he’d totally suck as a low level manager like that, god... micromanaging everyone, griping about every small transgression of official McD’s rules... my only hope is that Quark is a regular customer and he’ll just focus on him instead and leave me alone.

I just noticed something with Ginny & Georgia and The Summer I Turned Pretty

Ginny = Belly

Marcus = Conrad

Wolfe = Cam

Hunter = Jeremiah

This is mildly long because I can't answer this question without doing a Dawson's Creek and gilmore girls speil it's like impossible but short answer is no and kinda

Ok so I've finished the season and walk with me but when it comes the sorta romantic gay coding base the summer I turned pretty and Ginny and Georgia they are similar different pieces

So both pieces use Gilmore girls and Dawsons creek to some extent but Gilmore girls base show is Dawsons Creek which makes this tricky and I would argue that. Ginny and Georgia has more in common with Gilmore girls and the Summer I turned pretty is way more Dawson's Creek

Like essentially ginny and Georgia is mostly brown Gilmore girls but like post pll post colonial teen girl tv and tsitp is post colonial Asian American Americona Dawson Creek

So this can't be apt comparison and I kept thinking about the characters that the Ginny and Georgia characters are similar two in Gilmore girls and even taking that in it's complicated basically Conrad is very much a Dawsons creek boy written by a poc lady as ideal love interest and Marcus is much like Gilmore girls guy so white boy in more deconstructed of the white nuclear family way

And yes Marcus and con and Ginny and belly are similar because it's depressed White boy and brown girl they are intrinsically tied to but Ginny story is about maternal family patterns and belly is about breaking off western American patriarchal exceptations they're both selfish but in entirely different circumstances but Marcus can't handle it and Conrad can

Marcus is not her endgame because Ginny and Georgia is Gilmore girls and structured that way and if we're being honest Ginny doesn't have lezzie love interest to fill out like what Rory and Paris are like to luke and Lorelai because Paris characterization is given to Maxine

That being said given that Joe and Georgia are clearly endgame there is a male equivalent but first I believe Joe is what if son of Logan who I presume is Rory baby daddy in Gilmore girls year in a life would've grown up like with Luke as a grandfather so our endgame for ginny is Logan instead of paris

Now with that Marcus equivalent is Zion 1.Ginny names the poem about him the sun so Zion means the sun

2. He knows Ginny as teenager just like Zion and knows enough of her tea to understand who he is(obviously Zion is worse)

3.neither can handle the Miller girls life mess it's clear that Ginny's mommy mess triggered his feels about his friends cancer regardless of what happened and Ginny by the end of season 3 is already hiding what she did to protect Georgia from him

And to be clear I'm not saying Marcus will do something that hurts Ginny just that he's technically her zion

So then who is are joe/Logan or rather are endgame guy for ginny it's wolfe

1. Joes name is twist on the idea of the average Joe like he seems normal but he's actually a little bit of guy who likes to scheme and is messy Wolfe is guy who who isn't scary but name suggest it

2. Both Joe and Wolfe are down bad for the Miller girls and let them instruct them Wolfe tries to leave after meeting Marcus and Ginny literally close his car door and he obeys and then we've got the auction scene where Joe gives out free blue farm dinners both boys are pushed into a core and instead looking for a way out stay

3. Georgia and joe meet as teenagers but spent most of their time as friends who has romantic tension and Wolfe literally says we're gonna be friends (also max is a lot like Wolfe so like if he's creepy she's creepy)

4.neither of them care that Georgia killed people they are both so nonchalant

That being in the summer I turned pretty books cam Cameron is Asian and even tho Jenny han couldn't make belly Asian that was the vision so he functions as belly falling for man that was like boy version of her

And if we're doing poc girls reflected in poc boys hunter is closest to cam Cameron in that sense they're minority Olympics argument is very much that

So yes same genre post colonial teen girl tv but the closest guy to Conrad is Cole in my life with the Walter boys who's also in this genre

hiii you probably already saw in the tags but i love your ham ham drawings. hamtaro is my favorite anime of all time and ive been playing rainbow rescue recently so seeing it cross over with ghost makes me really happy :)
