i just returned to tumblr after a long hiatus and do you know where all of jon's fans went?? did something pop off? i only recognize like two blogs in his tag and it used to be popping in there or is he just not the internet's boyfriend anymore? where did everyone go?

First off, welcome back! As to your questions, I actually haven't been part of the Bernthal fandom for several months now. I ditched him back in May for my own reasons, so I didn't realize his tag was so bare. A friend on here recently did tell me though that a lot of his fans seemed to have moved onto Pedro Pascal (which as you can tell by my blog now was a pleasant surprise!).

The only thing I do know of that could be a reason is that if you weren't already aware he started his own video podcast that initially was free and then he moved it to Patreon which means you need to pay to watch. Why I mention that (aside from it being a dick move imo) is that one of the people he interviewed was Shia LaBeouf who has allegations (ones that I absolutely believe) of physically and mentally abusing his ex-girlfriend FKA twigs. This interview he made free for everyone - just this one. He allowed his friend to use his podcast as a platform for a redemption tour before Shia ever faced his allegations in court which isn't happening until April of this year I believe. When I tell you that the backlash from him having Shia on was huge, at least on Twitter from what I saw. People ripped him apart in tweets (he seemed to have more supporters on Instagram though for some reason). So a lot of people saw Jon differently after that.

And truthfully, he hasn't been in anything substantial except American Gigolo (if you want to consider that substantial) but he did the Shia interview when it first started airing I believe so no idea how many people even kept watching it. And he had a small cameo in one episode of The Bear and a gross role in a Lena Dunham film (which also pissed people off that he worked with her). So he really hasn't had anything worth promoting recently which will always make an actor's tag go quiet for a bit.

As much as I hate what d&d did to JB, I do love the content we got from it.... all the fanfics and art and meta. d&d are terrible indeed but think of all the beautiful fics that wouldn't exist if s8 never happened..... and think of all the stuff you beautiful talented people will come up with if/when we get twow!!!!! what I've learned from the aftermath of s8 is the power of fandom. honestly, people will love their faves no matter what happens. it doesn't matter if they ruined dany, dany stans still love her. it doesn't matter that they made jaime pointless, jaime fans said "fuck that". the story belongs to the readers now and I don't think anything could change that.

Very true, anon! The fireball disaster of S8 definitely spurred a new generation of writers, readers, and artists into the JB fandom (I was one, having only lurked before). After the initial burst back in 2019, I am not so interested in reading fixit fics any more, or even show canon, but I do love that it inspired so many people to get thinking about what they do want from JB in their hearts/in the next book. Jaime definitely does belong to us now.

I really hope we get the next book for two reasons 1) more fan content and 2) the discord will lose its mind.

Whatever happens in 8x05, I am grateful to/for the JB fandom.

Seriously guys, you have all been absolute champs with the gifs, screencaps, links, likes, reblogs, replies, rants and especially fic and fic recs (there was such a huge spike in new fics and writers, I still haven't caught up). I feel like we've been more active (and more numerous) the past 3 weeks than we have ever been. Whether I needed someone to commiserate with me in my rage and despair, or someone to pull me out of it with a timely gif or analysis, someone was always there. THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart. Of Plagiarism

This is one of the many things I won’t ever shut up about. Plagiarism is theft, period. An apology goes a long way but saying things like, “the fandom is small so there will be borrowed phrasing,” and other b.s. will make me lose any respect for you. And I have.

Sadly, and maybe unsurprisingly, the plagiarist is ‘borrowing’ again, from another author this time. Why will someone plagiarize? If you won’t get caught, then why not? But when it comes to fandoms, the answer is a lot more simple: for kudos, for vanity and yeah, jealousy.

Some people just want their moment in the sun to last longer. Instead of admiring and supporting the better writer, I guess it’s a lot easier to be hateful, to steal and take credit for someone else’s hard work. 

It’s great to be popular and be admired. But there are better ways to get there. I guess honesty and decency are just harder to come by now. Also the willingness to work--clearly, being a plagiarist, you think you’re hot shit. It’s beneath you to make a genuine effort in anything besides stealing.
