So the show supernatural draws to a close this week, and I'm dipping my toes back into the fandom for the first time in 3-4 years. Mostly popcorn fun since I'm not actively watching spn, and because I'll never get emotionally invested in a show again after GOT's nihilistic ending.
But until i was consumed by all things jb, dean/cas was my ship from the moment cas burst through those barn doors in 2008 (!), and I really hope they get a good ending -- an open-ended outcome where they are both alive, team free will 1.0 back together, and nothing left but lots of curtain fic to write. (That's spn fandom's version of "j&b on tarth" for all you jb folks.) I'm not hoping for much more than that and would be content with such an ending.
Unfortunately, like jb, dean/cas has its own inc*st shipper contingent nipping at its heels. Just stumbled across angry winc*st stans on an innocuous spn post . . . and holy shit did it trigger some unpleasant memories of toxic fandom behavior last year. Remember all the vile vitriol from jc stans?? For months and months, even a year after they "won" their dream ending that was coincidentally panned by pretty much everyone else in the world?
Fuck I hope spn doesn't go the same way, with "bros only" as its final message. I'd have to nope out of that fandom forever. Unlike jb, there is no superior book canon to supplant a ruined show, and another round of smug inc*st shippers is as unfathomable and unbearable to me as trump successfully suing his way into second term.
This is why I hope fellow d/c shippers will take heed and guard themselves against the possibility of a terrible, heartbreaking, brienne-who?/death by inc*st bricks type ending. Just in case.
Wouldn't want to go through that again unprepared.
